  1. Having had flashlights using similar bulbs and experience changing out both the bulb and the whole assembly, I initially considered replacing just the lamp, on my Sony RPTV when it went. Luckily for me, I decided on the whole cartridge since you get a new reflector and fresh wiring. BTW, I had the same type of warnings from the tv before the old light went after heavy use, but now it's like a new tv. Sorry to hear you've had troubles, maybe something in the cartridge assembly went, sounds like time to replace the whole cartridge rather than just the bulb. Best of luck
  2. Now I know what to ask Santa for...lots of little presents and a big box to hold them all![] Glad to hear yours is working out well, hope to do the same in the near future. Nice seeing what works well, keep us updated, thx.
  3. Ok, so I'm like Jim....except when in Atlanta where I ask for "Coke", or certain states where I have to ask for "soda" preceeded by the flavor (orange, grape, etc.) I want, "lessen I wan't a Quinnine water". []
  4. I have had the HLP4663WX, an older and smaller version for the past two years. It has had two minor color problems, (a freeze up on a single color, usually all red or all blue) for which Samsung has gladly responded service personnel and replaced a rather expensive computer box each time gratis. The picture is beautiful and I can't say enough for Samsung Customer Service. I purchased mine due to space issues also and found that Samsung's measurements were spot on. But just to be sure, I'd measure it myself before purchasing. Best of Luck!
  5. The options others have provided have been great ones, for myself (remembering I'm a bit biased) I enjoy my Nakamichi ST-7 (which can ususaly be found on "the-bay" for a reasonable amount) but you have to know it is run through a 2 channel Nak system (CA-7 control pre-amp, PA-7 200wpc Power Amp) to my Heresy II's.
  6. Does the fact that I wear tri-focals mean I'll get three times the pleasure? [] Seriously, I used to close my eyes too before I started wearing glasses full time and I'd guess better focus and lack of distractions certainly helps the listening experience.
  7. Glad to have you back OB, missed your humor! Now just don't go sliding through the gears until you've passed the 500 mile break-in period. [au]
  8. Michael, Congrats on the new position, perfect person for the job! BTW, Amy did tell you about the haircut all new employees have to wear for their initiation, didn't she? Not to worry, it's only until they issue you your official Bullsh-t button.
  9. Amy, First, nice avatar, Steven has really grown since the Indy Pigramage. Down to business, I can always use a good coffee mug, maybe that would be the candidate for a "Klipsch through the years" slogans and logos. A heavy polo/golf shirt or jacket with a "retro" embroidered logo and of course a return of the Home Theater Sign. I'm sure you've already done your "homework", but a quick look at some of the sales sites for other advertisers may help show what sells and what sits around for "clearance" some examples are DTS who are redesigning their site and Dolby who has a third party site both of whom have recently "blown out" most of their "stale" products. An example of a multiple brand site would be the Anheuser Busch' "BudShop" which covers all of their brands and shows how far out this can get and what you could get "stuck with" trying to please everyone. Best of Luck, I'm looking forward to some Klipsch-o-bilia. 10. To head back in the direction of the original question, I pay 12.1/kwh which when looking at Illinois seems a bit high until you consider that I have a public supplier (my city) rather than the private monopoly which supplies most of the state and which has been artificially locked for the past 10 years at 8/kwh, but with the end of the lock and bidding which just occured, looks like the price is about to triple to 24/kwh for those users, making my current bill a bargain. Of course my bill takes into account sewer, water, leaf and garbage pickup and the forward sightedness of my city officials to build a peaker plant which will sell overage production of electricity back to the private monopoly, hopefully lowering my bill over the next few years.
  11. Picky, Congrats to you and your family on the new addition and "Happy Birthday" to both Verna and Katelynn Marie!
  12. Thank you all for the kind wishes.....and Bill (Silversport) I'll have to think of something appropriate to thank you especially.....and just for the record, I can still do everything you do....just a bit more gracefully....that's what age, I mean experience does for you. BTW, looks like Dtel and I share something with Amy (no, not our age...) Happy Birthday back to Dtel!
  13. Amy, So......how's it feel to share your birthday with famous people like, Larry "I Deam of Jeannie" Hagman, Stephen "If it's Scary, I wrote it" King, Bill "Caddyshack" Murray, Faith "Breathe" Hill, Nicole "The Simple Life" Richie.......oh yeah and me! Have a GREAT BIRTHDAY AMY !
  14. oldbuckster, Thanks for the heads up and caring enough to tell others. I remember back to the old glass and metal syringes and can only trust that those were sterilized properly. Thank goodness for the current awareness of bloodborne pathogens which has made single use/disposable injections the norm. Best of luck to you!
  15. Phil, Your Kimber 8TC's are a good cable, unless you have a bad connection somewhere (loose wire, bad binding post) you shouldn't be hearing a crackle unless you are over driving the speaker (similar to bottoming out a bass driver). To reiterate what Dr. Who and others have said, start simply by turning down volume and treble to see if you are over driving the speaker. Next, if you can switch around your cables and connections with that speaker you may be able to narrow down the problem. You may also be able to check by unscrewing the RCA to see if there is a loose wire at the solder point, unless your interconnects have a heat shrink over them (I had to cut my heat shrink away to actually see the break on mine). If it's not the cable and you are handy, you can carefully (unplug from electricity and let the processor or amp discharge before opening the case, to check the RCA or binding posts for a loose connection. Same with the speaker. Remove the connection cup on the rear of the speaker and check those for loose connections, they can all break if they have had cables frequently attached and removed less than gently). I have 9' runs of low end Tributaries (about $30 for 4 meters a pair) interconnects between my processor and my amps that work without problems. Another inexpensive and well made interconnect I've used lately are Knukoncepz. I've used both their Eks (silver plated copper coax) which were too bright for my taste and their all copper stranded Krystal Kables which I currently use (they are also cheap, a 4 meter pair are only $16). Let us know how things work out for you.
  16. Thanks Woodsman, good to hear that not only good gear, but sounds like good customer service too. Anyone else have input or ideas?
  17. Anyone here heard of this company or has used their products in their home theater? Thinking about a little consolidation and I'm looking for some feedback and multi-channel amp suggestions, these or others, Thanks! http://www.gemstoneaudio.com/
  18. Duke, I know what you mean. It got soooooo bad last year, that the guys I work with started looking up high end audio stuff on the internet, just to have something to talk about (they also think little cubes are hi-end stereo) with me. I caught on when one of them forgot his "crib sheet" and began talking about Nakamichi stuff. []
  19. kev313, I don't have any experience with KS-525 THX surround speakers, but they appear to be similar to the KSP-S6, which is the "big brother" to my KSF-S5's and can be mounted the same way as described earlier.
  20. kev313, Colterphoto1 has some great alternatives. I had a similar problem and solved it by using KSF-S5 wide dispersion surrounds using the alternate rear wall mounting and an Omni-mount "ball-mount" to allow me to adjust the speakers in all directions for the best sound. Here's the portion of the KSF-S5 install manual which explains it: PLACEMENT OF THE KSF-S5 SURROUND SPEAKERS One of the principle advantages of Klipschs unique Wide-Dispersion Surround Technology is greater placement flexibility. Due to the full 180° coverage pattern, you can place the KSF-S5s on the rear wall, side walls or even on the ceiling. The most common placement is on the side walls, adjacent to the listening/viewing area, or on the rear wall facing the front of the room. When placed at the rear of the room, leave at least one foot of clearance from the side walls. A height of approximately five to seven feet from the floor to the base of the cabinet is recommended. An alternative placement would be on the ceiling, either directly above or several feet behind the listening area. The drivers can be oriented with the front and rear of the room, or with the side walls to compensate for room shape and layout. Optimal surround speaker placement is highly dependent upon individual room layout and the resulting acoustics. Experiment with speaker placement until you achieve a desirable balance of envelopment and directional cues. Consult your Klipsch dealer for more specific guidance on placement to suit your particular home theater room. Best of luck!
  21. bismark, First, slow down, you're going to give yourself a coronary. Sounds like you have a very nice setup now and that you are planning for the future. (what all of us have or are doing) You are correct in asking about things you are unsure of. (saves on spending for things you find you really didn't want or like in the first place) If I were you, I'd wait a bit to see if that Magnolia discount comes through and in the mean time, surf through old posts here, there are many good ones on wires (speaker and interconnects) and don't let anyone razz you about Monster wire, you get the best you can afford that you find to do the job for your setup. I've used "stock came in the box wires", zip/lamp cord, Monster, AR, IXOS, KnuKonceptz and others, some because they did the job better, some because they fit in my cabinets easier and some because "it was cheap and in stock". I guess what I'm saying is it's your system and it has to sound good to your ears, so you need to put in it what you want to get out of it, for some that's a quick fix and for others it's a lifetime addiction, welcome to the madness.....enjoy! Best of luck.
  22. Thanks Oldbuckster! Of course, now he something else to hold over me......ok, ok so he's several inches taller anyway, I'm sure I have some redeeming factors..... maybe.....someone, anyone???? Oh yeah, I'm older, more experienced, that is better isn't it?
  23. He's always puttin' it off on me.........(just Kidding, Bill) first comes the sub, then if that doesn't do it, maybe the H-III's. BTW he didn't tell everyone that Simply Stereo was something to do because we got done drooling over all of the cars at the Geneva Concours d'Ellegance, thank goodness they had all of the cars roped off or we'd have messed up the shine something terrible. Too many nice cars, but I think I'd look nice behind the wheel of this one.......
  24. Have you tried talking nicely to a dealer? Got a couple a while back from a local dealer, just a thought.
  25. Congrats on the new toy! I still have my old (1975) Schwinn LeTour, but have gotten so "old" that the thin tires won't keep me upright, so I've changed over a few years ago to a Gary Fisher Utopia they called it a City/Path bike back then, guess they really meant hybrid, huh? Lucky to have lots of paved off road paths, but every now and again have to cross over the grass, mud or gravel, so I get to use both the "City and Path" options. Enjoy yours when it arrives!
