  1. Premium was 2.86 last night, is up to 3.15 this morning I guess if poeple haven't figured it out yet, the Hurricane has damaged oil supply lines running across the US dropping the supply down alot. The gov has issued supply to counter the drop, but the lines are not fully functional yet, so prices shot up.
  2. Well, if you like you KLF-10's , I would suggest picking up a pair of black KLF-20 or KLF-30's for you mains, and move the KLF-10's to the rear for surround duty. You will have to find them used, but they pop up all the time if you are patient. KLF-30 and KLF-20 specs. I am really please with my 20's
  3. PS3 here for the reasons stated above. And since I'm in the industry, my PC will always be somewhat up to date. I enjoy PC games as well, but consider it different than console gaming.
  4. Another recommendation here for Appleseed. Very Nice. I have watched it a handful of times already. Great sound and awesome graphics. I wouldn't call it all out cell shading, its a mixture. Been meaning to check out GITS2, glad to hear people like it.

I wanted to pick it up. I wonder how good a quality the disc is . Reign of Fire was, emmm, alright.

Something else? ---------------- UPS definitely info: http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=23 (read the description) APC also offers these: http://www.apc.com/products/category.cfm?id=15 but, they do not seem to have all the info about them online yet. I would assume that the "AV Power Conditioners with Battery" will be able to provide brownout and sag protection due to the battery, but the description is vague in saying "delivers pure, uninterrupted power". They look prettier than the almost functionally idential product above though (don't know if the above unit has the (EMI/RFI) supression though as the descriptions are written to market the product to the target audience). Addendum: asked APC, the AV Power Conditioners with battery listed in the second link are not available yet, they are due out in the 3rd quarter, however, they WILL have Automatic Voltage Regulations built-in to protect from sags and brownouts.

  11. There was one that ended on Wednsday I believe that went for 249.99 with 45 flat shipping. A month and half back there were as many as three on there. And yes these were KLF-C7's not RC7s. I would personally not mix Legends with Reference series, especially across the front.
  12. I would stick to other Legend speakers as others have said. Pick up KLF-30's for mains and move the 20s for surround, or pick up KLF-10's for surround. The C-7's can be found on bay. ---------------- On 7/13/2005 6:35:29 PM bhendrix wrote: ddcobb, Be patient, they are out there. A couple of week ago, a pair of black KLF20's with C7 were listed on ebay by a person in Kansas City. They did not sell at $675 because the minimum was not met. That would have been a nice project. ---------------- I was watching those, as they were EXACTLY what I had been waiting to find. Even the one broken woofer would hvae been usefull for a bucking magnets. I almost cried when I pulled them up the next day to find out they were pulled My guess was UPS or whoever damaged them didn't let the guy keep em or they sold local. Dunno.
  14. GREAT work on the homemade KLF-10 center. I bet it is actually better than the C7 due to the 10's and lower frequency response. The C7 lacks the lows of the 10. ---------------- On 7/14/2005 1:23:02 PM kentmjohnson wrote: I am looking for a KLF-C7 as well. I might be interested in doing what you just finished doing. Does the KLF-C7 use the same x-over/circuitry as the KLF 20's do? If the C7 has a different x-over/circuitry wouldn't that make your rig sound totally different? Just curious because I am definitely interested in what you did. Thanks ---------------- For this KLF-10 Center, it sounds like Billyjoe used the Crossover that came in the trashed KLF-10 box, which would be the right way to do it, instead of the C7 network for the different frequency response. The C7 and the KLF-20 use a different network. The C7 is a two way speaker, with a frequency responce of 75Hz-20kHz, and a HF crossover of 2000Hz. The KLF-20 is a three way speaker, with a frequency response of 34Hz-20kHz, a HF crossover of 7000Hz, and a MF crossover of 750Hz. You can always build a C7 and buy a brand new upgraded Kstack network for it from a forum member by the name of Popbumper (Chris). You could also buy a new upgraded Kstack network for KLF-20 from him if you go that route, which would be a better match having 3 of the same going across, even better that the nicely matched, but a little different C7).

That way, you can run WHATEVER you need later on. If a cable has a problem, its super easy to re-run it through the conduit. Also, you can find a good price for the speaker cable, projector cable, and hdmi cable, and run it yourself. No cable premium, no being forced to use the cables the installer sells, and no worries about having to tear stuff up to change a cable out in the future, especially if you had to upgrade something. Like I said, I ran the coduit myself, and I spent less that $25 on all the material.
  17. yup.. a black pair sold for 650 each (1300 for the pair) last week.
  18. SCOOTERDOG, I never though about pointing the tweeter to the sitting area via vertical mount. That might be something to try. My thoughts were more along the line of horizontal mounting, and the tilting to point the woofer to the listening area like ygmn described.... hmmmmmmmmmm
  19. Sounds like you are enjoying yourself HornEd... I hope to find a single KLF-20 myself to make the HornEd-ized KLF-20 center I just can never find one in my area

More direct but you also still get wide dispersion just not quite as all over the place. Kind of hard to explain. ---------------- Excellant, I am looking for a more direct sound, as I don't like having the sound everywhere and over blended. I have the SS-1's mounted almost 6' up right now in a small room, and they almost blend too much with the front. I stood up and got ear level with them to see what it sounds like, and liked it much better than hearin them while seated below them. I am going to have to do some rigging as the right side will be mounted to the wall angled down (7'ft wall), while the left side will be danglinge 2' from the ceiling and then angled down(9' ft raised ceiling raised from the other side). Frankly I am scared of the room acoustics since this will be an all tiled room as well, with one wall half open to another room, and the back wall all open to the living room. I am mounting them on the side, because if I can get ahold of a 7.1 receiver for a good price, I will be hanging some angled bookshelfs from the back. ---------------- On 6/27/2005 1:31:47 PM Mavicator wrote: I have to mount mine exactly the same way, 7' up. I'm planning to angle them down about 15-20 degrees. Hope this doesn't ruin the effect! ---------------- I guess it depends on whether you want to have some direction as to where the sound is coming from, or if you like it to be all vauge (especially at 7' up) from what I gather. If I had it my way, I would find a single KLF-20 to mod for the center to have 3 KLF-20's across the front, and move my KLF-C7 to the rear, and have an 4 KLF-C7 (angle down) 7.1 surround setup. I am not the biggest fan of the bipoles, but have to make due with I have for now.

  22. I am moving my HT setup into a new house soon, and was laying out my 5.1 surround setup. I have Wide Dispersion Surrounds that will get mounted 7 ft up on the side walls 90°s from the sitting position. I was wondering, if anyone has mounted their WDS/Dipole surround tilted down, with the woofer in the middle pointing the seating position? It seems, even with the Dipole, this would give a more direct sound than the traditional flat on the wall mouting. thoughts? experience?

I opted not to pay them to do the half a$$ expensive home theater wiring. The builder is kinda cool and laid back, but really did not want me running the actual wire before I moved in, so I came up with a compromise. Since most of my wire runs were to be on exterior walls, which would have insulations and such, I talked him into letting me run conduit (the flexible/bendable king). I basically ran the conduit into the attic with string in it, and put the box where I would mount my speakers later. I made little template for myself to know where each box was, and they covered up the boxes with sheetrock. Once I move in, I will use the templates to cut square to access the boxes, and use a faceplate to make them look nice, and then pull wire through the conduit using the string. You might want to look into running conduit, or even just string if they will let you.
  24. I am about to be faced with a similar choice. I am going to aim for using the wide dispersion speaker for sides, and the bookshelfs for rears when I convert to 7.1, but for now, in my 5.1 setup, I am going to use the luxury of having both sets on hand to test to see what I like best. Do you have access to these speakers to test them? Because as the post above states, you ultimately need to see which sounds better to YOU as both will work.

Its basically customers who do that to them when they are demos at the store. People just get off to damaging dust caps on demos I guess. Oh... and I would pass on those for $1100, you can pick up a new pair for not much more if you shop around, and be able to find a nice used pair for a lower price.
