  1. Its extremely rare to ever have to have any Klipsch woofers re-done. I've seen KG-2s go for $75-150 depending on color and condition.
  2. I had a friend's son over a few weeks ago to watch Transformers on HD-DVD. He was pretty impressed, loved the LFE and the overall sound. I just picked it up on Blu-Ray and it blows away the HD-DVD version. Too bad I didn't have it when he came over before.
  3. Nice pic! Reminds me of the customer's house I made a delivery to a while back. He had these massive 4-5 feet speakers and a 19" tube TV in the middle of them. []
  4. This is probably the part of me that sounds like my Dad talking, but if you had to sell your RF-7s recently due to financial reasons and you don't currently have a car...are there maybe other things that you should be spending your money on? []

  6. Thanks guys. The general consensus of keeping what I have now is kind of what I was hoping I'd hear you suggest. [] I know I'd miss at least the deep bass of my SVS and I do enjoy 5.1 surround much better than my previous 2 channel setups. These are the ones I was looking at in case anyone else locally was looking for a pair: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ele/967524376.html
  7. Title says it all. Would you sell your complete speaker arrangement to fund a pair of Klipschorns? Looking at my setup below and considering that I have a narrow and long basement room that would absolutely require false corners, would you do it? Reason I'm asking is there's a pair of 80s Klipschorns nearby that are being sold for about what all my speakers including subs are worth. I definitely watch a lot more movies than I listen to music. I've never heard Klipschorns in person before.
  8. Must be the Monster Cable you're using. []
  9. The specs you want to look at are what is called timbre matching. The KG series speakers matches up with the KV series of center speaker. Like your KGs, the KV series has been discontinued for a long time but I'm sure eBay or your local craigslist will turn up one for you. I'd recommend either the KV-1 or KV-2. Here are two for sale on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-KV-1-Center-Channel-Speaker_W0QQitemZ390017462651QQihZ026QQcategoryZ3276QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-KV1-center-speaker_W0QQitemZ140290018542QQihZ004QQcategoryZ3276QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. Man, thinking back I've changed a ton of things in my system: Started with a Definitive Technology Dolby Pro-Logic system with a Klipsch KV-1 center speaker. The KV-1 was pretty much the only Klipsch speaker I could afford at the time so I bought it because my best friend loved Klipsch. Ended up selling all those speakers to buy a pair of RF-25s. Sold the RF-25s and Definitive Tech sub to buy a pair of RF-7s. Sold the RF-7s to buy a pair of Forte IIs. Bought an SVS 16-46 PC-Plus sub. Upgraded the crossover networks in the Fortes. Bought a pair of Quartets, sold one and kept the other for a center speaker Bought a pair of RS-42s as side surrounds. That's just the speaker side of it: Originally had a Sony STR-D1011S Dolby Pro-Logic receiver. Awesome thing, super heavy. Loved it. Got rid of the Sony and bought a Harman/Kardon 730 vintage receiver. Sold the H/K and bought a new Harman/Kardon HK 3480 two channel integrated amp. Sold the H/K and bought a Sonic Impact T-Amp. Sold the T-Amp and bought a Rotel RB-980BX power amp and Rotel RSP-980 pre-amp. Sold the Rotels and bought a Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver. That's just the amplification side of the game. Bought and sold two different Cambridge Audio CD players Bought and sold a Denon CD player Bought and sold a Harman/Kardon DVD player Bought and sold two different Oppo DVD players Man, that's a ton of flipping. There's a few more things that I probably left out also. That's in the past two years AFTER FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS FORUM. [8o|]
  11. Trust me, there's definitely sub 20Hz information being amplified by my SVS connected to my Onkyo 805. My sub is pretty flat down to about 12Hz in room. There's been more than one movie that has LFE information that low that can pretty much only be felt and not heard. I usually listen in one of the THX modes or MultiCh.
  12. Ah yes, Circuit City, the place where I overheard a male sales associate telling a middle-aged female customer that Brand X receiver would play louder than Brand Y because Brand X's volume knob went up to 50 whereas Brand Y's volume knob only went up to 40. I kid you not. By the way, all the HDMI cables in my system are from monoprice, as well as the optical digital cable from my DirecTV box to my receiver. I have 3 HDMI cables and the optical cable and I probably have spent a total of $40-50 including shipping for all of them.
  13. I'd suggest 80Hz for all speakers but you really need to decide what sounds best to you. I'd recommend to start at 80Hz and work your way down. 100Hz is a little high for very capable speakers such as the RC and RS 7s.

    Dark Knight

Got it from NetFlix on Blu-Ray on Tuesday. Incredible LFE, several scenes almost made me jump out of my chair. The scene where he's re-creating the bullet fired into the brick using a mini-gun was the most realistic gunshot I've ever heard.
  15. Setting the subwoofer's gain knob to around the 10 o'clock position is usually a good place to have it.
  16. I'm lovin' my 805 with my Forte IIs.
  17. Do you have the gain all the way up on the sub itself or on the sub output in the receiver's menu? If on the sub itself, you want it to be around the 10 o'clock position. What options do you have on your receiver as far as subwoofer output level? Does your receiver have an automatic speaker setup such as Audyssey?
  18. Congratulations on your new speakers! I'm sure you'll enjoy them for a very long time. [Y]
  19. I've found that the RS-42s I have work surprisingly well even though they are generations apart and very different in their drivers/horns/etc. The KSP-S6 which is a surround-sound specific speaker has an awesome reputation although they don't turn up for sale too often.
  20. 1) Speaker height and listening height definitely affect the sound you hear. If you like how they sound when standing, you might think about putting something underneath the rear of the speaker to tilt them forward ever so slightly. That would be a lot easier than building a platform to raise your sofa. That would lower the 'sweet spot' you refer to. Also, if you haven't already, you might want to toe your speakers inwards toward your main listening position. Some people like how their speakers sound with only a slight amount of toe-in, others like to have their front main speakers aimed directly at them at a more extreme angle. Experiment with different degrees of toe-in and see what you like best. 2) For rear (actually side placement only slightly behind you is recommended in a 5 speaker setup) speakers if you don't want to spend the money on another pair of RF-83s, most any Reference series tower will work. The RS series are specifically designed as surround speakers but floorstanding speakers will give you a fuller sound overall. If you do more music listening I'd recommend floorstanding as side surrounds, if you do more movies I'd recommend the RS surround series.
  21. There are definite benefits to using a shielded interconnect, but I'm not sure what you mean by using them for surround sound? Are you using the yellow cables exclusively as opposed to other interconnects?
  22. Glad that everything went well with your Forte II pickup. I'm not sure what I would ever replace mine with, There's no way Klipschorns would work in my basement theater room and I'd never spend the money to get Jubilees. I have absolutely blasted music and movies through my Fortes and they've never skipped a beat. It seems that they sound better and better the louder they play.
  23. On your manual, page 24 it states: "This unit incorporates an onscreen menu system, which makes various operations possible by using the cursor (3, 4, 1 , 2) and ENTER buttons on the remote controller or on the front panel.
