  1. Thanks for the detailed description. It was really colorful and painted such a beautiful picture in my head. Thanks again. I'm glad you had a great time. Good memories last a very long time. All the best, Mark
  2. Shoot, they're all good. I watched a good number of them. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the info guys. What a great and diverse group we have here. You guys are the best. oldbuckster, are referring to the forum? If so, anyone have one for $50-60 they can let go of?
  4. Although low powered (65W) is this any good? Is it a quality unit like it's higher powered brethren? I need to replace my p.o.s. JVC to use with the wife's blose cubes. I might use it later for a HT with Klipsch though. What do you think a decent price to pay is. $75-80? $50? more, less? Thanks, Mark
  5. uh?... This is Jordan's work and not Charles' stuff. Although he is also trying some cool stuff. Thx Marvel....gotta adjust the dosage again.[:$] Jordan, great work. Love the baby cheeks.
  6. That's beautiful work chops. Look's great, I hope it sounds as good as it looks. But, for cryin' in the sink, why don't you just go 100% JBL and be done with it. Lansing knew what he was doing too. I love my Klipsch Cornwalls but I'm really becoming a fan of Jim Lansing's stuff. Great job. -Mark
  7. Don't you love snopes.com? I use them a lot to quell the rumor mill.
  8. I don't think there is a difference. The difference is in the horns. A 511 can be crossed over at 500 Hz. An 811 can be crossed no lower than 800 Hz. THe difference is the HF extension. The 902 will go higher according to Great Plains Audio. You can expect up to 17K out of the 902. You probably can't hear much above that.
  9. OK, since this thread is kind of meandering around, I'll throw in a couple cents. I pulled my CWII's out of moth balls. Since they were severly lacking in midrange after listening to Altec's with 811B's and dual 414's (12") I had to try something. I put the CW's on bottom and put the Altec's upside down on top of the CW's. So the 811 horn was right on top of the CW's and the dual woofers now acted as mid bass. Cornscala smornscala. Cornwall and 811 sound great. Actually the whole combo I set up sounds pretty good. I think the only reason for using a 511 horn instead of 811 is the cutoff (500 vs. 800 Hz). So to remedy that, use a 416 15 woofer and cross higher. Wait...that sounds like a Valencia or even a Model 19. Maybe that's where Cornscala et al evolution is heading. So in leau of cutting up the Cornwall, I stacked 'em. Sound is superb. Think I will listen to this set up for a while... -Mark
  10. The only one that cracks me up more than jacksonbart is parrot. Good one.
  11. I think maybe blue to match your dad's king would be cool. You would be a distincive pair of riders as opposed to the sea of black harley's you see everywhere. A blue Road King and a matching blue Sporty traveling down the road...paints a nice picture in my mind. Otherwise go black, may have better resale value since that's the most popular color.
  12. Maybe you got burned? Do the "new" tubes work in any of the 12AX7 sockets?
  13. Reciever (A) to LF of R & L speakers. Reciever ( to HF of R & L speakers. If possible, maybe pull the shorting pins out of the back and use them as amps only with a separate preamp that may be better suited to biamping.
  14. When I was at his house (pre VRD) he was playing a pair of HH Scott 99(C?)'s. WOW! Sounded stunning on his LaScalas. Don't even know why he upgraded. Well I know, but what he had sounded so gooood. Once you hear what really good hi-fi sounds like it's like a disease, you need more - the best. For instance, I have the best sounding hi-fi system I've ever owned in my life and I'm still looking at the next upgrade to get "there". We all know what I'm saying. It's obsessive compulsive at it's best.
  15. Even at $150 shipping seems like a h*ll of a deal. BUY 'EM
  16. Altec Lansing. A technicality really, but Jim might have taken offense. [] Look to be in VG condition.
  17. I let them go. Cabinets had scratches, chipped veneer and holes drilled in the tops and one grill was torn. Probably worth $400 for sure but not sure how much I could get for them in this condition. I'll let another local get them and enjoy them.
  18. Super Patrick. Glad you finally got all your new tube stuff and are listening to it all now. Can't wait to hear it sometime. Looks sweeeet. -Mark
  19. It is a 99B. Mono. You'd need two of them for stereo. A friend of mine is running two of these as mono blocks with a separate pre. These are integrated amps so a pre is not really necesary except it gives you one volume control. It is a really cool amp with 4 different phono eq curves built in - before there was an RIAA standard - a real piece of history. It also has a variable loudness contour. I have never seen one of these before but have heard of them. You adjust the amount of "loudness" effect you want based on overall listening volume. If you were looking for a sweet mono set up this amp and tuner would be the ticket. If you want stereo you will need to wait for another one to some up for sale. It does not need tubes. I checked all of them on a tester and they all test quite high. I was going to do some more restoration work on it just for kicks. It is really very clean.-Mark
