  1. Kinda what I was thinking. I've been following this thread from the beginning (I guess I have no life). Seemed like an awfully short test. One or two songs in a quick "A/B". Not sure if Jeff pulled the speakers fromt he corners and set them side by side for a reasonably unbiased A/B or not. I applaud meagain's hubby for pulling out the test equipment to test BOTH before and after for a decent comparison. We'll see...
  2. When you bring vintage tube gear up on a variac, use an analog AC amp meter (not milliamp) connected in series with one leg of the 120vac. Use a seperate volt meter to watch line voltage if you want but you are keeping an eye on the amps. Watch for little spikes and jumps as the caps reform. The current should increase temporarily then slowly subside. A sudden or steady increase in current means a short is happening in one or more caps, shut the power off right away. Try again, if it happens again you need to replace the electrolytics and hope it wasn't a can that shorted. If you can get it to 120 volts with less than 2 amps or so (slowly, over a period of several hours IMO) then watch it for a while looking for spikes. I ran mine with a meter in series for hours before bringing it into the house. That's how I do it. ymmv H.H.Scott LT-10
  3. "I put my multi meter in line so I could see the voltage." You mean current, right? Do you have an analog meter (one with a needle)? I think they work best for seeing little current spikes when reforming caps. What blew the tranny in your Dyno? I have an H.H.Scott FM tuner I might be willing to part with.
  4. Wow, those look sweet. I would love to have a set of tube mono blocks to play with. Go for it. You can't lose money, they'll only go up in value.
  5. And he's not a vintage hi-f dealer either. He deals in vintage clothing it looks like. Looks like a beauty. Not for me though. No room.
  6. Bruce, God bless you and your family and may he bring you His comfort and peace. By the grace of God our heavenly Father we will all be with him in his paradise forever. My heart goes out to you during this time of sadness for you. Sincerely, Mark
  7. I'll second that, especially the last part. Although we don't know each other apart from this forum, I feel I am a part of this camaraderie and truly do wish you the best. I have enjoyed your posts and hope to again soon. God bless you and keep you in his loving care. -Mark
  8. Hmmmmm... I was pretty sure colterphoto would have chimed in here.
  9. I noticed these and see that the cabinet in significantly different than my C#BR's. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Cornwall-II-Heritage-Series-Speakers_W0QQitemZ5845165633QQcategoryZ14993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Specifically the exposed plys visible on the top. Mine have been mitered to 45 degrees so there is no ply showing. Someone veneered the front so I suppose I could sand and finish these to an acceptable degree. Is the exposed ply a trademark of earlier CW's? Mine are '86. When did they change?
  10. I have the original "manual" that came with my 1986 Cornwalls. It has the specs and some info on placement. It has a page or two for each Heritage model. PM me if you can use this.
  11. C'mon Dean. You know what I mean...I keep the tone controls on center. I just want to hear what the amp is doing with the speakers. Don't want to add any "interference". Of course it is a personal preference - don't want to start an argument, just curious what others do.

  13. Sure there is. Remember WIlliam Hung? He is/was totally serious, completely deluded.

Yeah, I really liked it. I'll admit it was a little slow going at first. Like they could have cut the first hour. I didn't know it was so long but my 47 year old butt said it was getting to be a long movie. Awesome animation. Best dinosaurs I have ever seen. Non-stop b-movie type action. Very entertaining IMO. merkin, don't take it so serious. Have fun. I recommend it. I wouldn't take little kids though, some of the island scenes were a little troubling (what with the giant cockroaches and all). Mark
  15. People are gonna ask for pics so you might as well put 'em up now.
  16. You posted a link to a file residing on your hard drive. Unless you are running a server I'm pretty sure that ain't gonna work. You need to upload the pic to Klipsch's server so we can see it.
  17. "HIS WIFE ASSURED ME THAT THEY WERE NOT MISTREATED IN ANY WAY" Man, you could've fooled me. Looking at the finish and all the marks on it. They look pretty banged up to me.
  18. No he ported them on front (see the slotted ports). VERY nice job. Looks great and I bet sounds greater.
  19. Thought I would revive this thread to publicly thank Alan for turning me on to some really nice jazz. I put the album on when I got it and my wife and I both relaxed to some very well played instrumentals. The vinyl is of very high quality. It is absolutely silent between tracks. I am really enjoying this intro to jazz. I am not completely unfamiliar with it but don't know a lot about the genre either. I prefer instrumental jazz to vocal so this one fits the bill very nicely. Thanks again and God bless you and yours this Christmas. -Mark
  20. With a meter, you would be surprised how loud just 110dB is. It's obnoxious. Ok for occasional slamming but it'll still cause damage. Your ears are the best piece of audiophile gear you have. Don't want to hurt 'em.
  21. I built mine out of 24" dia. sonotube. It looks like a tall end table. If you went with a larger diameter it might look more like a table for improved WAF. Mine doesn't mind. It sits in the corner. Even with 1/4" wall thickness you won't feel any vibration on the walls. A cylinder is VERY strong. I used 1" thick plywood for the top and bottom and they do vibrate.
