  1. Congrats to the Phillies and all of their many fans...I still can't get over all the cold weather gear that the Rays were wearing...it made them look really silly from my point of view. Those ball caps with the "earflaps" should be banned from baseball...
  2. Turkey with all the trimmings is traditional here. I have heard that American Thanksgiving is "the big holiday" as compared to xmas...just the opposite up here. Thanks for the good wishes!
  3. I suggest you contact Bob Crites. bobcrites@century.net He will answer all your questions and give you all the options...
  4. Check out "raised heel trusses"...adds a little to the overall building height but gives you the needed attic space. As with any truss system, you would also have to have an attic access hole in the ceiling.
  5. I just tried "keyhole hanger" on Google and found all sorts of good leads...
  6. Michael, I think you will find radiant heat very much to your liking...could probably keep the stat set at 45 to 50 degrees and you would be amazed at just how comfy this can feel on a cold winter day. Kind of like being out in the sun on a nice calm fall day. As long as you are not opening your big door too often, you could probably get away with a large water heater as a heat source. Just don't expect a rapid recovery. As Greg has mentioned, the issue of temp control can be a problem using regular thermostats. Their on/off differential is to wide and therefore the slab temp will overshoot and then under shoot the setpoint temp. There are controls available that use PWM (pulse width modulation) circuitry that can really help a radiant slab maintain a constant temp. Solar water heat can easily be added to a floor heat system down the road...kinda pricey tho... Greg, thanks for the info on your setups. I am somewhat familiar with the Tekmar controls and I agree that they seem to be getting more and more costly and complicated. I have been looking at controls made by Azel...might be something there that could work for you at a reasonable price. Should we start a new thread about radiant heat??
  7. Greg...could you tell us more about your radiant floor heat system in your shop? Is it a closed or open system? What temp to you keep it at and how is the temp controlled...slab sensor or wall stat? Boiler reset control?? Love the pics on your website BTW...exellent workmanship as usual. Thanks Garth
  8. At least consider placing the tubing in the slab when you pour...might never use them but...you won't be kickin yourself sometime in the future.
  9. Mineral spirits should be fine for Formica tops...if that does not work, try some acetone, aka laquer thinner...that should do the job.
  10. Some wise man once said that the best cure for high prices is "high prices". Seems to be starting to work...people are starting to drive less, by smaller vehicles etc...and on the production side, drilling is going full blast here in Saskatchewan where there are some deep (expensive) plays being developed. Still, I hope that the recent run up in crude is more of a spec bubble as some have alluded to...
  11. I have recently become more of a Detroit fan...the son of a friend has signed an entry level contract with the Wings. His name is Logan Pyett and is now ranked #12 on the team's depth chart. He will probably play a year or two in the AHL...the present Wings lineup is pretty tough to crack. Go Wings!!
  12. Nice Wendy....a picture might not always say a thousand words but in this case...it could sum up a few (fifty some) pages of posts... Thanks for making me smile.
  13. Teddy Thompson is a new artist that I would say is hard to pigeon hole...his latest effort titled, "Upfront and Down Low" is a compilation of some old school country torch tunes...this guy can really sing. Great arrangements and recording quality. Highly recomended.
  14. Just picked up Diana's newest CD, The Very Best Of Diana Krall....mainly just to hear her rendition of the Tom Waits tune, "The Heart Of Saturday Night" I love the spin she puts on this one. I also loved her version of Tom's "Temptation" off of her "Girl in the Other Room" CD. Hope she does more of his stuff...a whole CD of "Diana does Tom" would be interesting...
  15. What are the chances of this option someday being made available to your Canadian customers?

    Music Industry Woes

I like your thinking Kimball...I actually believe that good to excellent quality music will become more easily available, via downloads, in years to come. The hard part for some new artists will be that they may need the services of a "record label" to provide the quality recording studios and engineering that great music needs. Marketing is the other service provided by labels that still may be a necessity. But who knows...lots of good tunes coming out of indie labels these days....and good music has a way of marketing itself via the internet. I still believe that if there are artists out there with a strong desire to provide quality products, that somehow a way will be found to get that product out to those of us who are actively seeking it. In fact it is probably getting easier all the time.
  17. Here is the JAES article AES-Jubilee2.pdf
  18. Just finished watching this one...Great movie from a great series of both books and movies. Hope the makers of this one find some more material...
  19. Sitting 10" away is too close!!...I'm sure you meant 10'
