  1. Outlaw has a very sound customer service record. I personally know 2 people that have made purchases. I have purchased from Audio Advisor, Better Cables and Adire Audio online in the past 3 years. Subwoofer from Adire was delayed in shipping but they shipped for free due to the delay and sent me a CD of piano music that sounds really nice as a bonus. Internet purchases can save money and provide excellent service.
  2. It sounds like a really neat amp but I just had to buy a new harddrive, ping pong table for the kids to use over the summer, and wife just bought a dog. Put quite a bit of money into HDTV over the past few months(looking at a Discovery channel promo on insects as I type). The video experiement is interesting but I feel the need for a turntable and tubes. It may have to wait until next year.
  3. Compare the features, distortion and power to the Outlaw 1050. It may be worth spending the extra $ 99 for the Outlaw.
  4. Deang, Very true about the loudness thing. I know when I get too loud the room fixtures(pictures, mini blinds, table lamps and other items) vibrate and cause a very cluttered/distorted sound. Rick
  5. I recently read you can get one of the Manley tube integrateds ordered with a sub out. Many years ago maybe I would have checked an industrial audio company like Furman. Someone like them would make an outboard crossover that you could run a tape out to perhaps.
  6. I too have a poor house for K Horns. Living room music only rig...Belles, cause i like the way they look. Mens only game room(if my wife ever lets me have one)...LaScalas for contrast.
  7. K Horns would not work in my house at all. LaScalas would be about as big as I could go.
  8. Klipsch System 6 Outlaw Audio 1050 receiver Toshiba 5700 DVD DVD A(HDCD too I think) Pretty hot system, all under warranty for about $1800 including tax and maybe some entry level cabling.
  9. AR, Nice posts! Please use paragraphs and skip a line occassionally. The constant flow of text gives some people headaches.
  10. Even though I am 41 my Mom thought my audio passion was a little odd. After I played her the "Sound of Music" on DVD she finally bought in to the value.
  11. Also agree with Mike and Boa. You have to test. I have not decided wether or not I like the DACs in the DVD or preamp yet for movies. I use the preamp mostly.
  12. Back in the summer of 1974 when I was 14 a friend had an older brother in college who tuned us on to some really cool music. It was a pretty hot Motorola tube credenza type all in one unit. Deep "Purple Made in Japan" CSNY "4 way street" CCR "Cosmos Factory" Eagles "Desperado" Who "Who's Next" Doobie Brothers "Captain and Me" I only have one DVD-A of the "Captain and Me"; it reminds me of being a teen ager in the summer. Chine Grove and South City Midnight Lady are outstanding in DVD A through my Panasonic RP91( $460). I have had this dvd player for a bout 2.5 months now and really like it. I am not sure if there is a unit that is far superior in quality unless you pay close to twice the price. The price of the DVD-As are still a bit high for me, but let us know which ones everyone thinks are worth the premium.
  13. Sy, I left mine on with maybe a watt at night with the radio on and left them on with 20 watts over a weekend when i first got them. Yours are still fresh. Mine were a bit harsh on the top end at first.
  14. I had the VR 209(very nasty in retrospect) as well and last October got a great deal on some demo separates. Do the Outlaw! It was my second choice. You may be able to phone in the order. I have recomended to 2 buddies and they had a great buying experience.
  15. After much consternation... Sanus steel 24 inch with large top plate you can order direct from Sanus and 20 pounds of lead shot per stand. Have had them for 1.5 years and no regrets. Have seen people use concete bird bath pedestals spray painted your favorite color as a low cost option.
  16. I do not know what I can do but let me know. I can leave the guy a nasty salesman phone call; I have 19 years of practice. Bloomis, You have a C7? How do you secure that beast in your system. There is such a difference in "footprint" between the RC3 i have and that one. Neihbors have not evicted you yet in Canton; or do you buy them ear plugs.
  17. Justin, I may have to bring my Chessapeake Bay Retreivers to TX they would enjoy your chew toys. Glad you are feeling better. Rick
  18. I love Pike! I have been on 7 day canoe tips to Queteco Provincial Park in Ontario 2 times. Great for breakfast and the eagles love the carcass. One time I missed a monster just before dinner I did not put on my steel leader cause I was only goning to get in 20 casts from shore. 7th cast I saw the pike come up from the deep and hit the lure; it swallowed a bunch of line too. And ...snap. I have caught a 38 incher, would like to get one near 50 inches some day. The 38 incher was from the front of a canoe in deep water. Anout a 20 minute boat ride; hard to keep track of time , I never wear a watch in the wild. I love fish stories as much as music!
  19. Whell, You have an SR19 Marantz; a cool beast from what I have read. Never met anyone that had one. Nice to hear of another Klipscher in Livonia. We have somewhat similar systems. Main RB5 with really cool Sanus stands Center RC3 Rear 3.1 Sherwood Newcastle separates for pre and power Adire Audio Rava sub MSB Link DAC for CDs Panasonic RP 91 DVD and DVD-A Toshiba and Dish network HDTV Hope I find LaScalas at a garage sale before you do!
  20. Sy, How many hours do you have on your RF-7s? I did not really think my RB5s optimized until they had 250 hours. I biwired after about 6 months of ownership. Or maybe I was just getting used to them; speaker burn in is a big deal to some.
  21. It is not quite summer in Michigan as yet. Some of the personal stuff I have not been following lately. I have had problems with my phone comany of late and so now i am into cable modem. I have made comments against rude and inconsiderate posters on this site and named them by name when necessary. Name the people you do not like the attitude of and eloquently challenge them to improve their character. we can improve the site ourselves.
  22. Actually the RB5 would cost more if you buy some high value stands. The cabinet is nicer and you do not get limitation of not being able to try different "anchoring tweaks" to reeduce vibration with the RB 5. Someone once mentioned it may have a different crossover to a great degree. Not really into HT receivers(prefer separates) but if you have not purchased the Sony check out the Outlaw. Best $ 500 receiver bar none and better than most at twice the price.
  23. I was the high school band roadie and AV geek. I was on the school newspaper staff 1976-1978. Someone came up with the idea to write a continuing column for audio neophytes. The task was assigned to me and one of the editors decided it should be headlined as ... Audio Flynn on Receivers Audio Flynn on Speakers and so forth. One of the bands I worked for had a tee shirt made up that had their logo on the front and Audio Flynn on the back across the shoulders. And the rest is history...
