  1. Very interesting article. The issues raised are the reasons that I have not just tried to get there by myself. There is not food and water just available on your own. Without a place to go and without a specific group to hook up with, I can see how helpers could quickly become a casualty or problem for those there. I would also be the most useful in a situation in which medical supplies, equipment, and in the best of situations, an operating room are available. I have several leads working. One group is a Catholic aid group that also does work in the Congo. They are trying to see if they can get me there. My cousin is a helicopter pilot in the Army. Flies medical Blackhawks. He is at Ft. Hood. His unit is ready, but a group out of Florida went instead. He told me that if he went, that maybe they could have me go too. But, of course, there are always liability worries and things with so many groups. That gets frustrating... Not like I go and sue a group that is helping me get there! And, having been in a very terrible part, and dangerous, part of northern Uganda, I know that conditions there will be very bad there. For anyone down there. Poor Haiti before now was so bad off. Now with this it must be just about the worst place on earth as far as conditions go. Those poor souls. Paul
  2. Thank you Bob. I am looking into that also. I called American Airlines, they are flying into the Dominican Republic still. I am trying to see if I can find a way to travel over land into Haiti. I have also contacted several different agencies to see if I can go with them... Please keep the ideas coming in.
  3. Thank you everyone for you ideas. I am contacting those you have suggested. I am trying to see if there is a way to simply get there. I cannot find that any flights are going in that area at this point though.
  4. That was sad. They apparently didn't know that that plane had those supplies on it until after it had been diverted. Seems like chaos right now.
  5. I am trying to figure out a way to get down to Haiti to help. I am a doctor and want to travel there. I have contacted all of our local agencies and groups that could possibly get me there. None of them are heading there. It's not like I can just catch a flight down there, and would need to be with some type of a group that could hopefully provide some medical supplies, and ideally, access to an operating room. I have contacted Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders. They are only sending doctors that they already are working with. I am willing to go with just about any type of group. Willing to fly to where ever they head out from if I need to. Have done medical mission work in Africa before, so all my crazy vaccines are current. And, I am used to horrible conditions and everything. If anyone has any good ideas, or if you know about a group local to you that is going and could use a doctor, can you please let me know. I will contact them and see if they can get me there. Thank you. Paul
  6. Had a very hard and stressful weekend on call. Went home and spent the afternoon in the sun, trimming my rose bushes. Listened to my X10's while I worked. Very rarely in my life have I heard music sound so wonderful. Often just sat there in the sun, listening to the music. Thank you Klipsch and Prof. Thump and others for making such a wonderful product. It literally lifted my stress away yesterday!
  7. Wow, way late on this, but happy birthday! Paul
  8. My son, Me Loves Heresy's, got me some X 10's for Christmas. These are my first 'high end' headphones. They sound amazing! Absolutely sound like the music is in the middle of my head while listening. Way to go Klipsch!
  9. Really was amazing in 3D. Did have lots of political undertones, but was a great movie. Try to see it in 3D. I really hope this is a trend in movie making!
  10. Hope you have had a wonderful Birthday, and Christmas!
  11. Those are beautiful. Do you work with wood as a job? Or serious hobby? That is amazing work.
  12. I guess money is all relative to different people. But at some point, wow.
  13. Had a sad thought. A hundred years from now... My Jubs could be planters.....
  14. We got snow in Waco too! Not quite cold enough to stick, but pretty to watch coming down. Paul
  15. Happy Birthday!!! I am always late on the birthday things! But many happy ones to come!
  16. I found out today that a nurse practitioner that worked for me 2 years ago, and now works at the hospital in Ft. Hood, Texas, worked some with this idiot. Said he was difficult to work with and very odd.
  17. I am so sorry for your family's loss. You will certainly be in my prayers.
  18. Absolutely. My cousin stationed there is fine. He was actually not far from there when it happened. He flies medivac helicopters. Even our hospital in Waco was put on alert to possible recieve casualties. I still cannot understand how one guy shot so many with pistols, I guess just so fast. And confusing. And he is a doctor! Not a special forces soldier. Paul
  19. I had a Ford Bronco when I was in college. I was driving on campus while class was letting out with people walking everywhere. My accellerator got stuck under the floor mat and floored the engine. I stood on the brake but it was not enough to stop the truck. I put it in neutral, the engine reved like crazy and I turned it off. Needless to say, the spinning back tires, the crazy engine sounds etc, created quite a site. People were like what is wrong with you? Scared me to death, I could have very very easily ran over several people walking across the street. I had the truck towed to dealer. The throttle pedal was looked at and found to be fine. Then the tech and I noticed the mat flip up and over the pedal. Bingo. Got rid of those mats, and to this day I very regularly look to see where my floor mats are on the floor of my truck. Paul
