  1. i did; but, nothing happened. that is why i'm wondering what could be wrong.
  2. Can't figure out how to get the on-screen display working. Anyone own this amp or probably any amp in the HTR series that can give me a quick lesson? Went to Yamaha website hoping that I could download one; but, they say give them $5.75 and they'll mail a new one. I'm too impatient to wait. Thanks.
  3. happy birthday. what have you got planned or what has been planned for you? notice any large, heavy boxes hidden around your house--maybe your family pitched in and got you some KHorns.
  4. I have the Synergy F3 system in my living room. Since I've been in my new house, I haven't hooked up the S3 Surrounds because the room is much smaller than where I lived before. Do the surrounds have to be behind me? I have some cool stands and may possibly be able to put one on each side of the couch--but they will be at ear level and directly to the side. will i lose much in the effect?
  5. Years ago, I was more into this topic than today. I studied under the great Maximillian Arturo, a Regents professor of cosmology and ontology at UC Berkeley. But after an experiment went awry, that all changed...we started calling ourselves Sliders after that; in fact they made a t.v. show about us. Sorry, I can't stay serious for more than seven minutes at a time.
  6. i recently had a new york steak that had been marinated in balsamic vinegar. sounds strange; but, was very, very good.
  7. Thanks for the info. Those things are pretty high-tech--amazing. I was very upset to learn that with two separate medical insurance plans, neither covers hearing aids.
  8. OSCARSEAR--I think the ENT said he thinks I have Otosclerosis. I do have some pressure in the ears and have plugged my nose and blew (only momentary relief). The ENT said that my ear drum and canal looks perfectly fine. I have not had as much as a cold in over six years. I am getting a root canal in two weeks on a lower back molar. That tooth starting hurting real bad and when it hurts, i also get some pain in that ear. Don't know if that could cause this pressure feeling or not.
  9. I am having bilateral hearing loss and pulsatile tinnitus. I sat in the booth and heard (or didn't hear) the tones, had speech recognition tests, and Acoustic immitance testing (tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing). This 2- to 3-minute test measures how well the middle ear relays sound. The ENT said that my hearing in both ears was below the "serviceable" hearing range. Because the tympanometry revealed that too much sound wasn't making it to the eardrum, he did a CAT Scan to see what could be the cause of the interference That test came back normal; however, because of the pulsatile tinninus (loud whooshing sound plus very loud ringing in my ears) he wanted an MRI--among the things they were looking for were tumors or vascular irregularities. He also did this test with a tuning fork where he struck the fork and put it against the bone over my eyes. I could only hear the sound in my right ear, which made sense to him because he said the sound would be more pronounced in an area where there was more bone mass. I must have some bone calcification going on--and I'm only 47. When the volume was increased on the hearing tests, I was able to identify all spoken words and sounds. So, time for the Klipsch Ear Trumpet.
  10. That is great! When I opened that link and saw exactly was I talking about--an ear trumpet (now I know what they are called) I had a good laugh. Good enough for Grandpa--Good enough for me. The best part will be getting the hearing aids and NOT telling my co-workers then being able to hear what they are "really" saying about me. Maybe it will be like that commercial for the "miracle ear" or whatever it is called. The guy is working out at the gym and two ladies are on the opposite side of the gym saying, "look at that guy. he looks like he takes real good care of himself" unbeknownst to them that he can now hear what they're saying. yeah, it will be just like that for me (my wife disagrees).
  11. because i sacrificed my body for klipsch. showing off their product for over 20 years at high volumes and now in need of hearing aids. wait...that should put me in the hall of fame...or the hall of shame...i belong somewhere.
  12. Thanks again. I told my wife that instead of a little hearing aid stuck in my ear, I wanted one of those big old horn things that you hold up to your ear--the type you see in old movies. Not sure what they are called--but, they are "Horns."
  13. PRAISE GOD that my CAT scan and MRI both came back normal--no tumor in the brain or ear canal, no sign of vascular problem either. Getting that good news definately makes having to get a hearing aid in each ear seem trivial. Do any of you smart folks know what impact a hearing aid will have on the sound quality when I'm listening to tunes? I'm wondering if the music will sound artificial or will it sound the same and I just won't have to crank it up so loud? thank you everyone for your well wishes. Amy--please let me know if Klipsch Hearing Aids are in production Steve
  14. Cal--I hope this week finds you even better. I kept looking in the "General Questions" area for an update and began to get worried. Take it easy and continued well wishes to you.
  15. You would be surprised, my hearing is not so good to say the least. If I am anywhere without much noise I can easily hear my ears ringing from the quiet ! [] Not from music, from loud jobs many years ago.. But with the head/earphones I could hear things I have not heard in a while. Normally I have to turn it up to hear the higher frequencies with speakers. But when I wore the earphones I could hear everything especially at low volume that was what surprised me the most, the full sound at very low levels. I could listen to these much much lower than could in room speakers and hear all the detail, and its not like I listen to bose speakers at home. [] turning down the volume is something that i think i'm going to have to learn to do. i'm a stubborn person that doesn't seem to pay much attention to something until it reaches the crisis level. with the loss of hearing, constant very loud ringing in my ears, and this annoying "whooshing" sound also in ears--it really has gotten my attention. My CAT scan came back normal; but, since I have that "whooshing" pulsating sound the doctor wants an MRI also--I have that on saturday.
  16. just what i need for my failing hearing--headphones.
  17. Daddy Dee--I'm nowhere on par with you elite cookers. I just have some unit I picked up at Lowe's, I think it is Char-Broil. I wanted to get away from propane and get back to coals. This unit has an adjustable tray that allows me to adjust the distance between the heat and the food. It is your very basic $150 grill; but it does have a thermometer. After I read this thread, I was walking to my garage and passed the unit--the thermometer read 200 degrees. I thought, I can maintain this temperature without any heat source other than the sun.
  18. I would guess that the penalty that will be imposed by the NFL will not run concurrently with that of the legal system. so one can easily imagine that he'll be out of football for at least three years. historically, i've been opposed to leagues adding their own punishment after the player has been through the legal system; however, i can understand how the commissioner and owners would not want to have to deal with PETA protests every Sunday. i read an article last week that said a high percentage (i can't recall the exact number they listed) of animals that were under the care of PETA were euthanized. i don't know too much about what they claim to be; however, they obviously have no objection to an animal's life being ended when they are footing the bill for board & care. a bit of hypocrisy maybe?
  19. the thermometer on my unit generally reads 200 just from sitting in the sun.
  20. i never see klipsch at garage sales! maybe that is a once in a lifetime find??? admittedly, i rarely go to yard sales; but the ones that i have been to, only had crap-o-la.
  21. i have had several people approach me in a parking lot asking me if i want a home theatre. i would never buy from someone in a parking lot--i'm far too suspicious. but, i'm wondering what is the scam? is the stuff stolen? is it broke? or just a piece of crap?
  22. the information that you wanted has been sent to you via PM. hope this helps.
  23. not an easy call to make. my boss in the coast guard had to make a decision to call off a search many times. i'm sure it wasn't easy. one time, two small planes collided over the port of los angeles--five people missing. family, friends, and unfortunately the media started showing up at our office. we hadn't called off the search; but we knew that the chances of finding a survivor at that point (well after the crash) was zero. I had to escort the elderly mother and other family members into our office (trying to keep them away from the media vultures--and when they saw me they grabbed their cameras and came running). it was very difficult to hear this sweet old lady ask me, with some hope still in her voice, "have you found my son yet?" not a fun time at the office that day.
  24. maybe someone should call geraldo rivera. that al capone safe show didn't go too well, but he may be willing to take a crack at this mystery. who knows what could be locked in that box--a map to some buried treasure, michael jackson's other glove, or bob dillon's unlisted phone number (yes, a Tubes reference from What Do You Want From Life).
