  1. ...John Malkovich. OK, there's my witty reply for this quarter. PhilH
  2. Everyone With Questions: I wish we could actually post sites that can or cannot sell to you on the Internet as a Klipsch customer, but for reasons that would take me typing into tomorrow afternoon (OK I'm not a data entry speed typer), it would be too difficult and, believe it or not, even more confusing to figure out. A blanket statement saying all serial numbered product we can cover is also not possible because there are some very sneaky Internet sellers out there who try to make the number look as legitimate as they can. Please just call 1-800-KLIPSCH if you want to know if a particular Internet seller is authorized to sell Klipsch or not. You can even private message me if you like and I'll be happy to answer your question. PhilH
  3. BHZ Boy: Since you e-mailed me the same question, I have a response for you in your e-mail. PhilH
  4. We have heard from several different customers who have purchased from unauthorized sources and have been subjected to textbook cases of deplorable customer service. Some of these customers have even bought from sites with the highest customer satisfaction ratings too (makes you wonder how easy it is to rate these sites). Just last month a new site appeared (and was rated and listed in a search engine)was up for afew weeks and POOF...it was all of a sudden gone. Again, I'll state that if you would be comfortable making a major purchase from some guy selling merchandise out of the back of his van, then you should consider buying from an unauthorized seller. Now add the fact that you're buying from someone in cyberspace who is even more difficult to find physically if you have a problem (especially when they disappear overnight)AND that place that may be,or is,suddenly gone has your credit card information. We posted the statement in question to try and help a customer when we can. Can we always help?? Unfortunately not. Do not become locked into a situation where you have no alternative for future help other than the site you originally bought it from!If the problem is damaged, nonworking merchandise when you receive it and the website is now nowhere to be found or is "Up for Sale" when you go back to it,what now?? If you have a legitimate Klipsch serial number on your product, we may be able to help you with warranty issues (unfortunately the above example is not a warranty issue). If you have altered or removed serial numbers on your product...SEND THE MERCHANDISE BACK IMMEDIATELY TO THE SITE YOU BOUGHT IT FROM!!! (A call to 1-800-KLIPSCH will help determine if the serial number you have is legitimate or not.) Doug's summary of the situation is basically correct. If you are unsure if the site is authorized just call 1-800-KLIPSCH and we can provide the answer. PhilH This message has been edited by PhilH on 03-01-2002 at 04:24 PM
  5. derik: Posting your question in the Home Theater section would get a bunch of responses, but here is my input. The SF-1 has a larger woofer and a bigger cabinet (being a floor speaker). This gives it more bass than the SB-1. It also uses an aluminum high frequency driver vs. the polymer one on the SB-1. This will give, generally, more defined high frequencies, especially at louder volumes (and it can handle more wattage). The SF-1 is also a bit more efficient, meaning it will be louder than the SB-1 with the same input power. If cabinet size (or appearance) is an issue, the SB-2 would be a closer sonic match to the SF-1. PhilH
  6. John: The 5 and 7 o'clock position was probably suggested to get the speakers as close to the rear as possible. I wouldn't aim them at 12 o'clock though. When you say you have them parallel, if you mean they are facing each other with your seating position in the middle, that is usually the best way to angle them. Again, like Stu is referring to, you can then move them, still in "parallel" up and back in experiments to see what sounds best to you. PhilH
  7. Glad you received it promptly bryan2. Let me add a thanks to Trey Cannon here for getting all the details worked out to get it to you. Again, thanks for being one of our many loyal Klipsch fans! PhilH
  8. gyoko: We appreciate your enthusiasm over an audio product, that is what we are all here for. But three different posts under three different threads DOES look like a way to obtain some free promotion for a company that is "soon to sell on the Internet." I ask that you keep your "enthusiasm" to one post only. PhilH
  9. et-rcpt: If you go to our homepage, click on product search, choose in-ceiling home audio, then type in IC-650, all the specs are there. PhilH
  10. tcs: A call to our Tech Support at 1-800-KLIPSCH will get you information about a replacement. PhilH
  11. I wonder if they have 12 months no payment/no interest financing for that power cord Justin??? PhilH
  12. dabnug: If you post in the ProMedia section just below this home audio section in the forum, you'll get a well-informed answer. PhilH
  13. Neandertal: No, the KSW-10 (along with most subwoofers out there) is not shielded. The size of a driver and the magnet(s) in a subwoofer usually make shielding them cost prohibitive. Since a woofer has more flexibility in its placement in regards to a TV versus a main or center channel speaker this, generally, has not been an issue. Also, a sub sits on the floor, generally out of harms way of the TV sitting higher up. I sit my unshiedded sub right next to my projection TV, and even with the guns of that TV at floor level there is no negative effect. PhilH
  14. TwoWatt: Sounds like a problem of some type. Call 1-800-KLIPSCH and talk to Tech Support. They'll have you check several things and get you taken care of one way or another. PhilH
  15. Dr Pyro and boa you are correct, except the RF-3II still comes only in a black vinyl wrap cabinet (RF-5's and 7's are the floorstanders with choice on veneer cabinet flavors). They do now have Monster Cable inside. The larger feet are now installed at the factory, and the grills are beveled at the bottom in order that they don't break when you tip the speakers forward. PhilH
  16. I recently starting thinking vinyl again. I purchased one of my all time favorite live albums on CD around Christmas...Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus". I have the Original Master Recording version on vinyl (in storage for years)and was extremely disappointed in the CD version sound quality. Definitely not what I remember from 25 years ago. I dug up my old B&O turntable last weekend sifting through a flooded storage area, but alas, it looks to be beyond salvage. Now my thoughts are turning to a new/used turntable, a separate 2-channel system using my KLF-30's, a nice tube or SS amp, a good record cleaner/restorer for those 500+ lp's in (dry) storage, a new HT system with some RF-7's and an RSW-15 subwoofer, yada, yada, yada. The wife is just going to LOVE my latest idea on how to spend money! PhilH
  17. BGCID: Welcome to the Forum! The front channels of a system are the most important in matching sound between the channels. Therefore, you want a center channel speaker with, preferably, the same mid/high frequency driver(s) as the front mains. This allows a smooth blend of sound from left to right and vice versa. With SB-2's or SB-3's I recommend the matching SC-1 as the best center choice. As far as the rears, the SS.1's again are the best tonal match for the SB-2's and 3's. You could go with the RS-3II's but, again, it wouldn't be a perfect tonal match to the fronts. The SS.1's would be best if you will use the system to play a lot of movies since the SS.1's give you both the ambient and direct sounds needed for Home Theatre. If you mainly use the system for the 5-Channel Stereo feature you have on your Denon receiver, then go with SB-2's or SB-3's to, again, match the sound of your front speakers. Those in the rear with their direct-only sound are best for music. PhilH
  18. Steve and Becky: We missed you there this year. Great to hear from you two again!!! PhilH
  19. talktoKeith: I think the unknown comic has decided to resurface in the world on the BB...good one Keith! PhilH
  20. I'd like to throw in some words as an old retail guy with several years as a store manager if I can. If you have not yet, I highly suggest you physically go meet with the store manager of the Sound Advice you took your Denon to. Even though he is not the "service manager" he is the "keeper of the castle" and responsible for what goes down on the sales floor and at the service counter in that building. I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone, but I know that sometimes things slip through the cracks (especially during the harried Christmas season). Sound Advice didn't get to where they are today by intentionally blowing off customer problems. Tell the store manager the details of the problem and give him the opportunity to try to make things right...that is one of the many facets of his job. If that does not work (but I think it will) ask for the manager's District Manager name and phone number. Although you dread a problem like this as a manager, you, at the same time, welcome it as an opportunity to take care of a customer who has been definitely overlooked. Believe me, a manager and a company does not want people like The Ears (just using you as a common example, no slam intended)bad mouthing what you have worked hard to achieve...gain a satisfied customer base with repeat business in an extremely competitive world. I hope you give them one more chance to right this wrong for you. This process will also develop a much faster and less costly result for you than a long legal battle. PhilH
  21. Audrey: Welcome to our little corner of the world. It's always nice to see a female in here who appreciates the finer (and funner) things in life like "us guys" do! You can click on "Dealer Locater" above, put in your zip and find the nearest Klipsch dealer to you for auditions. PhilH
  22. ckj: CD's definitely sound better than FM broadcasts. FM signals are more compressed (less highs and lows) plus they carry an 18 kHz Pilot Signal that creates a funny sounding twist and squeal on the highs on revealing equipment. But, if you find a good FM station you like, it's a great way to hear what's new. Where you are at, look for a tuner section with good sensitivity (to pick up a weaker signal if that is the problem) and selectivity (to reject interference from stations on adjacent frequencies which is probably a sure problem in your populated area). Even with good specs with these, an in-home trial on whatever antenna you have is the only way to know if it will meet your goals. Also, FM signals tend to be the most difficult to receive in the daylight hours, due to the sun and many different outside variables such as business communications during the day, etc., so test the tuner both night and day. While we are on the subject (and I cringe a bit at mentioning this because I have friends in radio broadcasting)XM Satellite radio is here (competitor Sirius is on the way), and although I have not heard it yet, it works on the same principle as DBS Satellite TV. If you have a "clear shot" at the satellite, you have a clean signal of many types of music/news, etc. Most units out now are for the car, but home tuners are starting to appear. PhilH
  23. archibald: Although the SC-1 and SS-1's would be a better timbre match, I believe the package you are seeing is put together to be a lowest cost, value one with subwoofer(s), also designed to take up minimal space. Try to give it a listen with both the SC.5 and SC-1 if possible, preferably including a demo of a scene that pans the same sound across all 3 fronts. Work with the salesperson to see what they can do on the SC-1 and SS-1's and see what works best for you. PhilH
  24. The new Paul Simon DVD is DD and DTS and is pretty decent. And for you WHO fans, Live at Royal Albert Hall (with friends), recorded a year ago with Zak Starkey on drums is a crank-up killer DVD in DD and DTS! I just got "The Fast and The Furious" movie yesterday, have to see if it lives up to it's stellar reviews... PhilH
  25. marcmac: We all have our personal preferences and feelings. I go with the school of matching the center as perfectly as possible to the front left and right speakers. When a sound moves from left to right, for example, I want that sound to be the same throughout the pan. A different type of center would cause me to look at the speakers instead of what is causing the sound. A bigger center for you may be the best for your ears, and since there is so much information coming from the center channel, that backs up your stance. I would just set the center to small if I had the Quintets and let the sub handle a lot of that information. PhilH
