  1. Welcome to the forum Pete, Bigger is better in my book--I would go with the S-3's. I would have said go towers all of the way around, but you may look into upgrading your whole system someday and those may not retain their market value (bang/buck speaking) That being said, I am very fond of my first Synergy Home Theater. For the price they are hard to beat.[] Good luck! {edit:I would NOT go out and buy a Walnut Belle (pictured in above post) for your center because of a number of problems that would create--Upgrading your OTHER speakers could bankrupt you. []}
  2. Welcome to the forum BobbyNga. [] Yamaha makes good products but IMHO, the Denons are a step above. I didn't think so until I had to move my Yammi RXV-800 into a larger room and couldn't get it loud enough before it made my speakers sound bright and hurt my ears. I exchanged it with a Denon AVR-3803 and was amazed at the difference. The Denons are a little more expensive, but IMO well worth the cost. I also like hooking up 2 sets of side surrounds which the Denons allow. FWIW, I replaced my 3 Yamaha HT Receivers with Denons and I am not going back. I feel the best bang for your buck receiver out there is the Denon AVR-3803. HK makes a good product as well. Try doing a word search on this forum with Denon or Yamaha and you will find several hits and recommendations. We all have our opinions [] Good luck.
  3. I like the members of the group, apart and separate. IMHO, Phil Collins is a very talented "Pop" artist and a good drummer--Peter Gabriel is an Artistic Genius![]
  4. Welcome to the forum whatever 55, I have the RF-7's in a HT setup and they sound GREAT! The best suggestion I can give you is make sure your speakers are toed (turned []) in toward your listening position. When you take the grill off you should be able to see the back of your horns (tweeters on the top). Then I would mess around with the volume knob until the neighbors come over complaining. When you reach that point, decide if you wish to invite them over or turn it down a few dB's. Good Luck []
  5. Welcome to the forum tomdeg, There are no disks available in "7.1." The few disks in DTS-ES (which have a separate or "discrete" sixth channel) and Dolby Digital EX (which have a matrixed 6th channel from the "4th and 5th" surround channel) both sound better coming from 2 speakers (rear) for most peoples situations and preference (how's that for a broad statement []). In my home I enjoy having rear speakers (setup below in signiture). Here is a comment I made at the AVS forum the other day to a similar question: 5.1 Vs 7.1? Quote: Originally Posted by BuckNaked So if I'm only set up for 5.1, does ES create a "virtual" 7th channel? I know LOTR is 6.1 ES, and I'm just wondering if I'm missing something with a 5.1 set up. Thanks Here is where I may get into trouble. I saw the first LOTR in 5.1 and was FLOORED! What a great Movie. I then later updated my HT to a 7.1 (or 9.2--I have an obscene system and the Denons allow for 2 sets of side surrounds) and watched the LOTR extended version. The easy answer is yes I heard some discrete *stuff* coming out of my rear speakers and enjoyed the movie again. But it wasn't a "blow you away," kind of experience as watching it the first time in 5.1 The easy answer is yes you are missing something, but are you missing something very important, IMHO-No. The hard question to answer, is it worth the justification of buying 2 more speakers? It depends on your room and budget.
  6. I am strictly a multichannel guy with my main Home Theater listed below. I realize this is a 2-channel question, but I listened repeatedly to a 5.1 ML setup at several different stores and couldn't fathom trading my system for an equal exchange, much less 3-4 times the cost of the ML set up. I realize this is a Klipsch forum, but if I would have preferred the Martin Logans--I wouldn't be here. Insofar as the K-Horns, I don't have a room that would support them.
  7. Also check out this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/625357/ShowPost.aspx It may be of some help.[]
  8. Welcome to the forum DSP, The easy answer is 2 more Forte's [] If you listen to mostly multichannel music that by far would be the best choice. IMO, If you are going to be using your surrounds mostly for movies, some RS-7's would be something to consider. Just make sure you can take them back if you don't like the timbre match. I hope you get some real world advice from people that own your front 3 speakers. Good luck []
  9. It depends on how much you want to spend.[] As others have mentioned, I would upgrade your receiver. I would also purchase some Klipsch RF-7's or RF-5's to use along with the RS-7 as surrounds and then decided how to configure a "9.1" system. If you have the room, go Towers all of the way around, along with your RC-7 and RS-7's. If not, consider the RB-75 bookshelves for rears and/or side surrounds. Being able to add both A & B side surrounds is one of the features on the Denon that I REALLY like. IMHO, this setup sounds better than the Klipsch THX line for both movies and music. I am not a Yamaha basher and in fact couldn't be persuaded to spend the extra money on the Denon initially--after hearing the CONSIDERABLE difference between the Denon AVR-3803 which replaced My Yamaha RXV -800 I realize that was a mistake. I have 2 other Denon's (AVR 4802R &3805) that I traded for Yammies and I haven't been convinced that the extra money for separates, justified. My profile is listed below and the only "upgrade" I would consider in a larger room would be 5-7 LaScalas and adding two THX subs. []
  10. Hmmmm. Last year I did tests on Dolby Digital verses DTS concert video's as well. What I noticed was that of the 11 disks I tested, the Dolby digital registered a louder dB level and sounded better to my ears on several disks, which surprised me. The Don Henley disk was one of the disks I tested (if I am remembering this right) whose DTS version I preferred. Unfortunately my written test results are in one of the mass of piles in the guest bedroom. [:$] Now you have me wondering if the difference in SPL was because of the center channel information.[:^)] FWIW, I set all of my channels as per the Avia disk--then I go and change certain speakers to MY preference. My hearing isn't as exact as the results for the meter, and the meter doesn't appreciate (especially for movies) that I want more sound coming out of my rear surround channels. For music I usually play with the center's dB level, depending on the disk. I will post back if I find my notes or think I have something to add to the discussion.[]
  11. Good Job 33klfan--Don't let ANYONE tell you about how to decorate your Bedroom![:|] I agree with putting the surrounds on the side walls though. I mentioned my situation on the thread "Bedroom HT." The "stereo" (that's what we called it back in the day) system I had when I was 18 kicked butt--unfortunately the credit card company came back when I was 19 and wanted it all back. Don't make that mistake.It's alot more fun actually OWNING your stuff. []
  12. My dog is ALOT better looking than Moon's! She would still be embarrassed if I showed this picture to her friends.[]
  13. That is a GREAT deal![] {edit: I own the 3805 and I would trade it for a NIB 5803 in a heartbeat!}
  14. That brings you almost to the Dallas market--$1250 seems like a heck of a price and they aren't easy to find here anymore. Good Luck.
  15. Welcome to the forum pathighgate. In my Bedroom theater I have had several pairs of WDST speakers (SS-1's and now RS-3's). They work great for watching movies in bed and listening to multichannel music when I am at the opposite end of the room doing housework (ironing). For two completely different listening positions, I prefer them over bookshelf speakers to use as surrounds. {edit: BTW I have them mounted near the corners of my side walls }
  16. Nope. Not yet. I wonder if they will re-release it in Superbit along with the others around the holiday season. Then again, after the $9.99 sale at bestbuy I wonder if there are going to be ANY more Superbits released.
  17. Welcome to the forum bookman, The Reference system he is considering will sound AWESOME. BTW: They are also hand crafted in Hope Arkansas and aren't mass marketed, unfortunately . Why is it unfortunate that they are made in Arkansas and are not mass marketed.??? To clarify: I am proud they are made in Arkansas but disappointed the upper end Reference isn't readily available to the market.[]

    That does suck! I have been holding out buying the first one because I have a 16 X 9 TV. [:|]
  19. My point exactly! Surely he received some offers.Some of us with disposable income WOULD have jumped on that deal! (if he lived closer to me I would have called [])
  20. That's why I put the satellite remote in bold. I don't think the Mitsubishi remote does anything when pressed on an upconverted 1080i signal from satellite.[] At least not on my TV.
  21. As I see it there are 2 possibilities for your reversal in thinking: 1) Never really was a consideration--just a fun topic.[] 2) No one wanted to buy your speakers.[]
  22. I have my RF-3's in the picture on foot stools with granite floor tiles positioned around them--cost less than $25 a stand.
