I hope your a speed typer DRW....OUCH.... ---------------- No. Right now there is either, DTS-ES which does have a discrete (actual) rear channel (6.1) and Dolby Digital-EX which matrix's (uses material from the surround Left & Right) to make a rear channel. The last part of this thread has to do with which is better for recreating those formats, one or two rear speakers. Some receivers also allow 5.1 material to be "matrixed" into a 6.1 format.
  2. btw: Given the topic of the thread and the "Free Beer" issue--I think you have every right to be "Pissed."

Tell him that it's very important to understand what all the connections do and how to use all the gadgets like the remotes, different modes, bass management, etc. and that having you set it up from the start would be foolish and counter-productive. Heck, you may not always be available when something goes wrong. Also, tell him to read the manual from start to finish before beginning. He may then have a greater appreciation for his system and a greater appreciation for YOU after you bail him out for the 50th time when he keeps screwing up! ---------------- I don't necessarily disagree. I understand the "Teach a guy to fish" thing, but in that scenario I think the "to go beer" may be out. It depends on how good a friend he is. I would reach some sort of middle ground if he was a close friend. The set up process can be a real pain in the arse for a newbie and can sour the experience. If it were me, I would help him set it up only if he promised to read the manual so he can understand how the stuff works and doesn't call you with idiotic questions (which you will be the judge ). Again, if he is a good friend and needs your help 50 more times--that's 50 more potential free beer opportunities and RF-7 listening sessions. If he's not a good bud, I concur with Gary.

I don't really care for their gear, but I am jealous of the RF-7s. ---------------- Jealous of the Pioneer Elite? Of course not--He owns a Denon! Drew, Congratulations. Your advice is evidently worth something. That's a valuable asset. Insofar as the free beer is concerned--I think it's justifiable to ask for "To go" beer as well so you can take it home and enjoy your system with a cold one.

The LaScalas are nice, but to me, they are not "knock my socks off" nice! You don't see me running to trade in my RF-7s. ---------------- I am in complete with agreement skonopa. That being said, I feel robbl has a point about a reason to own both--I am trying to talk my wife into letting me own a pair (or more) of La scalas. No Klipsch obsessed homeowner should be without either.

  7. 9 ft from the front--.8 ft. from the back--4 ft. from the sides-- 4 ft. from EACH sub. Profile listed below
  8. FYI: Texarkana to Hope is less than an hours drive.
  9. ---------------- On 7/21/2005 12:43:03 PM triceratops wrote: Gee, a four-hour drive at the end of an extended plane ride might not be the best way to go.... ---------------- IMO to make DFW to Hope in 4 hours is REALLY boogying! I would allow for 5 hours and that's not planning on arriving during high traffic times. Not a bad drive though {edit: expressway all of the way}.
  10. Welcome to the forum vrowish. I believe there are too many variables in your question to give you a concrete answer. The exact speakers in question could help with the responses. In general if you have to cross your sub higher than 80 Hz and it's considerably larger than your satellites I believe you will have the problem that you stated.
  11. Hmmmm. If I was going to be true to my word they would have to be the Synergy system's KSB-3.1's. When I purchased those 6 years ago (along with the rest of the 5.1 setup) I told my salesperson that THESE will be the last speakers that I will ever own. I heard them again at my brothers house and they are still Impressive.
  12. Congratulations Frzninvt. I celebrated my 5 years on this forum last week. It appears you have been considerably more prolific than myself. I have enjoyed reading your posts.

They had their negative aspects, but attractiveness of stores and set up wasn't the problem -- in fact I miss having them in the market. I really wish Klipsch would reconsider getting back in Tweeter stores. That would help BOTH companies. I wonder if the Magnolia stores are going to be carrying the Reference and Heritage lines. I didn't mention the 4th Klipsch dealer I visited. The salesperson was very nice and was the only one that gave me specific Informational literature. Unfortunately he only had a pair of RF-7's and RF-5's in stereo situations with a RC-35 sitting on the floor. The only HT setup they had was an Athena (I think that was the name). He was the closest dealer to me and wasn't even listed on the Klipsch web site as being one. He more than likely will be the person I will strike up a relationship.

I'm in Ohio(the state right next to the state with Klipsch headquarters) and the closest Heritage Dealer was 2 hours away. He was really more of a Car Audio Installation joint and sure didn't stock any Klipsch. That said, he ordered me the speakers and they arrived in 3-4 weeks. ---------------- They may not be hanging around DIY bulletin boards, but having to go to car audio installers I have been to 4 dealers recently with 2 goals--Hear the THX Ultra II's and check on the availability of the heritage line. No one had Heritage in stock but they could order them. Insofar as the THX line--The first "dealer" I went to was a persons house (residential area with a "no soliciting" sign at the entrance) who didn't have them setup properly and nearly blew my eardrums out when they switched sources at full volume. The other 2 dealers when I called said they had the THX system on display. When I drove to check them out BOTH THX theaters had something wrong with them (one was a sub problem and the other was amp problem) and they couldn't let me audition them.

  16. I thought If you purchased this system through an authorized THX dealer they set it up for you? If not, I would run the set up again to see what the results would be--sometimes it takes several times to get it right. If that doesn't work get a Radio Shack SPL meter (do a search on this sight for "spl meter" or "radio shack").
  17. In the last 30 minutes 2 posts about folks buying used Heritage products. I can't remember reading a post from someone who has bought new. Anybody?
  18. Patrick that's my point. Has anyone on the forum bought Heritage, new from a dealer, in the last 10 years?

If I can remember back a month....I know its a long time for me, I also wasnt getting sub signals until I set bass enhancer to on. ---------------- You are correct about "Pure Direct." My bad.(I got confused with my "Direct mode" setting on my receiver) I do have bass enhancer set to "on" for SACD/DVD-A audio sources (6 channel analog). I Let my Denon 3805 decode DD & DTS sources. {edit: optical connection:} The "Bass Enhancer" should have no effect on signals sent through the digital cable. If the ".1" is being sent through the sub analog cable to your Yammi's sub input, along with connection of the other 5 channels, your Denon is doing the decoding and Bass management is engaged. That is the way I understand it.
  20. ---------------- On 7/20/2005 6:04:25 PM travisc wrote: ...Infact I think I will use pure direct full time, using the internal DAC for movies and all. ---------------- I am not familiar with your Yamaha. If it is a newer model the processing for DVD's (Not "A") may sound better through the digital connection. Insofar as pure direct is concerned that nullifies the bass management feature of the 2910. In my system I prefer more bass on SACD and most DVD-A sources. FYI. On DVD's through the digital connection the 2910's bass management is not engaged.
  21. I was curious if any of you purchased Your Cornwalls or La Scalas from Klipsch dealers? I did a "Find my Dealer" search for the Heritage Line and there were 2 listings. When I went by they didn't carry them, but could order them for me.
  22. True DVD-A's higher "Advanced Resolution" or "MLP," is processed in the 2910 and sent to your Yammi's amplifier ONLY through the 6 analog cables. When sent through the optical cable you send the Dolby digital signal through and it's processed using the Yamaha.
  23. If you don't get an answer here, try posting on the "2910 owners thread" on the AVS Forum here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=458229
