  1. 1. Currently own, Belle's & Heresy II's. I would like to have a La Scala or Cornwall for a center channel. I would eventually like to have Klipschorns in place of the Belle's. 2. Heard them in my teens, purchased on my own when I was around 22. (Heresy I's) 3. 40 4. Tried others started with CV D-8's, then Polk Audio RTA-12C's, but ended up with a pair of Forte's they hands down sounded better and could take the power of the DBX BX-3 300 Watt per channel power amp I had at the time. 5. Klipschorns would be my next purchase if I were to buy more Klipsch speakers. Because I have always wanted to own a pair. I think they are nothing short of incredible. 6. 2. I'm close to Talk to Keith, I have 10, I don't have a rear center. I have two pairs of mains, two pairs of rears, a center and a sub. The receiver only runs one pair of mains the others all run off outboard amplification. The effects are stunning to say the least, the Denon AVR-3300 seldom has to be turned up past -45 to be loud. The gobs of power really make the sound dynamic and the DBX processing makes it so lifelike you will jump out of your seat during unexpected transients. Although when running in DD or DTS the DBX units are not in use they only run in the analog domain. Some DVDs use lots of compression, so the Digital Series 3BX unit can retrieve what was lost and the Digital Series 120X harnesses the bass notes, it is then monitored and fine tuned by the DBX 14 band computer equalizer, it also provides real time decibel level measurements. Klipsch and Home Theater how could one go wrong. ------------------ Living Room Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (ALF/ARF)LWE-I's w/motion feedback DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (400W X 1)(KV-4 Center) DBX BX-1 Power Amplifier (400W X 2)(Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (200W X 4)(RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & Infinity SM82 (Walnut) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player DBX DX-5 CD Player w/DAIR Pioneer CT-S88R Programmable Auto-Reverse Cassette Deck Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-485RG Digital Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE Audio Recovery System A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers (Eggshell)(LF/RF) JBL T545's (Rear) GE 20" Television
  3. Hello Kenratboy! You are right I have been lurking and responding for a few years now and there is seldom alot of hacking on other people here. Speaking of that I am heading your way, my company just got bought (Bio-Tek Instruments) out by Fluke and are relocating to Carson City, NV monster home theater coming your way. I personally visited the Reno area two weeks ago and really liked it. 4. I run Belle's & LWE-I's for mains, the LWE-I's sound like Cornwalls and have a motion feedback circuit that operates off an amplifier's negative feedback to generate more low end bass down in the 20Hz range. I currently have a KV-4 center and Heresy II's and Infinity SM-82's for rears. I plan to replace the SM-82's with a pair of KG2's or KV2.2's and have a La Scala that will be taking over center channel duty. Sonically it sounds phenomenal for movies and music. With all separate power amplifiers dynamics and clarity are off the scale. The DBX BX-1 runs Class A power to the Belle's. 5. I use the heritage series for dynamics and clarity, I enjoy the realism they can reproduce especially with the kind of headroom I have with all separate amplifiers. Their handsome looks also play an important role, I wanted to keep the system matched as closely as I could as well. 6. If you are using Direct TV, a satellite receiver is available that can playback in Dolby Digital 5.1 via a Digital Coaxial or toslink fiber optic cable, provided the content is being broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1. I just upgraded my satellite receiver so that I would have this capability, the unit is the RCA DRD-485RG. I have had excellent results with it. 7. Could it be the lack of bass content in what you are listening to? If not, perhaps trying a subharmonic synthesizer to draw the bass out like the Audio Control PCA (Phase Coupled Activator) or Richter Scale or a DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer. 8. I have 400 watts per channel available to my 22 year old Belle's with all original drivers. As previously stated I seldom require more than a few watts. I just enjoy the headroom. Chorus II's must have a very sweet low end as compared to my Belle Klipsch, since they utilize a 15" forward firing driver coupled to a rear firing 15" drone. I compensate with a sub for each one. 9. I went and saw the ad at Audiogon, $1900 is too much unless they are absolutely immaculate without a single smudge, mark, or dust which I doubt. I would not pay more than say $500-$600 for a single unit. I got my pair for $1100. I have come across a single La Scala for $300 but getting a hold of the guy is a major challenge. I went and looked at the speaker once, and should have taken it right there and then but didn't have a truck or van, now I can't get a hold of him. Oh well! 11. My suggetion to your problem would be to buy a used DBX Dynamic Range Expander preferably the Series III model which is a fantastic component for adding tremendous dynamics and impact to records. So much so that they will sound warmer than your CD's will. The DBX 3BX-DS unit has 3 bands of impact recovery and the Series III only has one, the Series III has a little more ooomph which will be beneficial for record playback. They can be found on eBay quite regularly, trust me you will not be disappointed, they make quite a difference. It is completely user adjustable as well so you can dial in the amount of dynamics that you want. 15. So you are using your DVD player for CD playback as well, hmmm. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any DVD player that can playback CD's with equal quality as it can with DVD's. I would suggest getting a separate CD player that was designed and intended for the sole purpose of CD playback. I would not even think of using my Nakamichi DVD-10 for CD playback simply because it was not the task that it was designed and built for. So I use a separate CD player for that purpose. Try borrowing one of decent quality and try it see if it is any better. Just my thoughts. 16. I use a DBX 120X-DS to manage my subwoofer, it has a continuously variable crossover from 50Hz-210Hz, takes bass signals from 55Hz-110Hz and brings them down a full octave down to 27Hz. You can also tweek 4 frequencies at 28, 34, 40 and 50Hz for the ultimate in tuning. No need to build anything, or drop $1600+ for a new receiver just have that feature. They can be had on eBay for around $200 or so on average. In fact I have one coming to me that I won't need if anyone wants it. These things are great for subwoofer control and they can also reinforce the low end in your mains and rears to boot. Just make sure your speakers and amplifier can handle it, more bass requires more power! ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (ALF/ARF) LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback (Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/RF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System DBX 2015G 15 Band/Channel Equalizer A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television
  17. I have a KV-4 Center Channel and it's awesome. It can keep up with my Belle's and LWE-I mains with no trouble at all. I don't see all the hype about the Academy, the tweeter on it looks cheesy, it does not seem to be as nice as KV-4's tractix design. The Academy's have been going for crazy prices on eBay lately, but that's eBay for you. The KV-4 sounds good with music and DVD's and it never breaks up or crackles at all, I feed mine with a dedicated amp. I used to have the specs for the KV-4 but seemed to have misplaced them. I would like to compare specs on the Academy and KV-4 to see what the differences are mechanically and electrically anyway. I just can't imagine it would be sonically superior. Just my opinion. ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (ALF/ARF) LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback (Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/RF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System DBX 2015G 15 Band/Channel Equalizer A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television
  18. Klipsch does not make car audio products, although they are associated with or the owner's of Pyle Corp. The woofers for auction look like drivers taken from an LF-10 Subwoofer, you can use them if you can obtain the Theile Small (T/S) parameters from Klipsch so you can build the proper enclosure for them. In the wrong size and type of enclosure they will not sound good. They are also more than likely an 8 ohm driver but paralleling them both should give you a 4 ohm load so you can drive them with a bridged amplifier. Anyway in the proper enclosure they should work fine. ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (Pre-outs only) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/ALF/RF/ARF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) & LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback (Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System DBX 2015G 15 Band/Channel Equalizer A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television
  19. I have a very nice pair of very rare LWE-I's (Louis W. Erath, Houston TX circa late 60's early 70's) that feature a very unique motion feedback circuit that can use an amplifier's negative feedback stage to intensify the woofer's low end bass response. I think they would work best with a tube amplifier set up to get the most benefit from them. I am using them w/out the motion feedback circuit at present and they sound nice, but I need some speakers for my bedroom set up so I am looking to trade preferably someone in the New England area as shipping may be costly. They have a 15" CTS woofer, a 6" CTS midrange, and a EV T-35 tweeter these are all original components. They are finished in walnut I think but I could be wrong as the grain differs from my Heresy II's. I have the original matching stands for them too. The back has controls for midrange and tweeter attenuation, and a room gain control. They use a Cinch-Jones type connector with a six lead cable, they are very solidly built and very heavy. I am looking to trade them for a pair of Heresy I's, II's or preferably Forte I's. All finishes considered but they must be in at least very good to excellent condition, with all original components. There is very limited information on these speakers on the web, but there is a positive review of them on AudioReview.com they will produce more bass then a Heresy and are equally if not more efficient than a Heresy. Anyone interested please contact me, if not I will just hold on to them as it is unlikely I will ever come accross another pair. ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (Pre-outs only) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/ALF/RF/ARF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane) & LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback (Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DD Linear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Electronic Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System DBX 2015G 15 Band/Channel Equalizer A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television

  23. I have a heavy LWE-I Speaker (+/- 60-65lbs) sitting on each of mine toward the rear with no additional bracing and they can handle it fine. Although, they do have a piece of wood that is screwed down to the top portion in about the center of them. This is the way they came from the factory. I would say if the TV does not weigh more than 80 lbs no additional bracing would be necessary, they are very sturdily built. If you are not comfortable doing this, put some pieces of 2x4's to further reinforce it. ------------------ Sony KP-43T70 43" Television Denon AVR 3300 A/V Receiver (LF/RF) (LWE-I's w/Motion Feedback - Walnut) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (LF/RF) (Belle's - Oak Clear/Cane Grills) DBX BX-3MkII Power Amplifier (RR/ARR/LR/ALR) (Heresy II's (Walnut/Cane) & ESS Mini Monitors (Walnut)) DBX MPA-150 Mono Split Spectrum Amplifier © (KV-4 - Black) Klipsch KSW-15 Powered Subwoofer (2) Nakamichi DVD-10 DVD/LCD/CD Player Nakamichi MB-10 Music Bank CD Changer Technics SL-DL5 DDLinear Tracking Turntable JVC HR-S7500U SVHS Video Cassette Recorder RCA DRD-303RA Satellite Receiver VC3 Deluxe Video Clarifier DBX 400XG Program Route Selector DBX 120X-DS Subharmonic Synthesizer/Crossover DBX 3BX-DS 3-Band Dynamic Range Controller (2) (1-LC) (1-RC) DBX 14/10 14-Band Computerized Equalizer/RTA Analyzer/SPL Meter Panamax 1000+ Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Sega Dreamcast w/3 Controllers & VMU's/S-Video Output Bedroom Yamaha RX-900U Receiver Panasonic DVD-A120U DVD/CD Player Sony SLV-740HF Hi-Fi VCR BBE - ARS Audio Recovery System A/D/S L300E Mini Speakers GE 20" Television
