  1. I believe the review was in his "Sam's Space" column. And to be accurate, he added super tweeters, then sold them shortly after.
  2. A nice diversion but it lacks meat as you said. Supertramp is dynamic and beefy, Roger is more of a castroto.
  3. I didn't read your whole post but there is little you can tell by looking at specifications. Your ear is still the gold standard for sound quality.
  4. I'm just taking a wild guess but it sounds like you have a broadband noise issue. That's not going to be a ground loop or anything like that. The only suspicious thing is that Rogue gets 90 watts out of two EL-34s, That's a lot of power out of two tubes. They are driving the tubes pretty hard and they have a large amount of gain. So yes the noise floor can start to be an issue. If it was me, I would send it back. You might even be able to have the gain knocked down, with just some small loss in power. It might be worth asking about. A quality amp should be dead quiet but high gain amps can be problematic sometimes.
  5. From my point of view, if you are stacking up the albums, you are just playing a juke box, you are not really sitting down and listening to the music. You may as well use a CD changer at that point. YMMV.
  6. It sounds like you have a good handle on things.
  7. I'm still waiting for that guy to send me a pair of coat hangers to test. I'm not sure where to get 10 foot long hangers?
  8. reply, options, file attachments, add/update, chose file, save.
  9. I would encapsulate the hazardous materials into a glass tube. Oops, that is a vacuum tube!
  10. Yeah, get a big amp. You know what you like and you gave some other amps a try. You want to rock. Get the power you need.
  11. Sounds like what would happen at work. I use to say; One more upgrade and the programs won't work at all. Programmers and users have different priorities.
  12. Cornwalls and your amp would really rock the barn down.
  13. The picture really helps. It's always harder to get good sound on a short wall. Anyway, some have already suggested but spread out your RF-7s, your left speaker can go towards the corner without hurting anything and swap your sub and speaker on the other side (the sub needs to be inside your mains to support a good image). Spread out a little more but you want to be away from the side wall a bit, if you can. Also pull the speakers out another foot. A little toe-in would be about right. That should help quite a bit. I'm going to also suggest to crossover your sub a little higher to warm things up.
  14. It would be nice if there was a standard screen size but that doesn't even exist in the film industry so it might be a long time before anything gets standardized.
  15. The quality integrated amps really are nice. Musical Fidelity, Music Hall, Creek, etc. They have more power than you might guess from the specs and can really improve a system. You also have the chance of getting a nice tube integrated....sweet.
  16. Well, sometimes this hi-fi thing means making changes. The set-up of a hi-fi system is almost as important as the gear you choose. If the wife says you have to put the speakers here, that's the law but making your set-up work it's best requires that you try things that you may not be comfortable with. As always, I can only suggest the areas where I know improvements can be made. I'm only leading the horse to water, the rest is up to you. Having a hard wired set up usually creates problems down the line and leaves little or no flexibility and/or tuning capability.
  17. A db is a unit of power. In your example, 0 db is the reference level and is without definition or level. +/- 3db means that the response is within that range at that frequency. Or in other words the frequency response does not vary more than 3 db at 18 hz.
  18. EQ has it's place, I guess but if your speakers just won't do 15 Hz or 25 kHz, how do you EQ for that? The best method is to get all you can with placement and setup, then solve the remaining problems. The OP says he's on the short wall, if I read that right, usually not the best choice.
  19. You have nice gear but from what you are saying the synergy isn't working. Your second system is working because the Denon is a good match for your KG-4s. You have so many sources listed I can't sort that all out. Anyway, you don't show what cabling you are using but a little fine tuning with the right cables could get you in the right direction. I'm putting on my flame suit....
  20. The best solution is an open rack with at least 4 inches above and at least 4 inches on each side. Heat really is a bad thing, in most of my set-ups I have the amps on a stand or in an open rack. On one of my set-ups with doors on the front, I have removed the entire back, so enough air can get to my amps. The back side is 2 feet by 4 feet and is completely open. This is one area where WAF and adequate cooling are sometimes at odds.
  21. Yes, and your speaker should have the ideal placement for best sound, so in most cases having other speakers around hurts your sound stage.
  22. That graph looks like a corrected measurement? It's too smooth at the bottom end and too notchy in the mid/upper band. Am I right?
