  1. Hmm... May have to just stick with 3 way since I have all of those parts ready to go.

    Boston Belles

A little rough on the veneer but reasonable. Anyone driving from Boston to Arkansas per chance?
  3. Is that $750 per pair as in (2) K691 and (2) K510 or just a single of each then x2?
  4. Starting to do this to me now, too. On both mobile (Galaxy S7- Verizon) and desktop PC. I use the dark background Beta as I like the looks better than a bright white background.
  5. So what is "retail" price for the K510/K691? Or is it ordered as a cinema product?
  6. Those are the screws that hold the terminal strip in place that are tightened from the inside. They come out the front.
  7. Or you could just hook them up and listen to them for awhile first and see what they sound like... That's a good ol' Rotel receiver; should run them nice. Just play around with the speaker placement...how much toe in, distance from back wall, etc. Being happy or disappointed in them will also depend on room acoustics and what you listen to including genre of music, how loud, what you're comparing them to, etc. Nice find from a thrift store! Which cabinets are they? Good shape?
  8. After switching speakers around, left to right/right to left, I found my issue and feel rather foolish but will admit my findings. I'm getting reflections from the left speaker off of the leather recliner apparently. Sheesh. The left one is also 5 feet from a side wall where the right one is more open to the right where the entry way is and dining room. One day I'll have speakers in a room, again, that are not close to furniture and chairs. I guess I'm good to go. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
  9. Very nice looking speakers. Definitely looks lighter than what the website makes the cherry look but still awesome. Happy retirement!
  10. I checked out the Murfie site yesterday. Pretty cool and will have to try some of those to fill in the gaps of some of the artists CD's that I'm missing or would like. I use Spotify for basic listening while working in the house but still have my 1200+ CD's ripped to FLAC files on my NAS played from the Dell PC. Prices seem reasonable and priced based on what they think is "popular". I'll compare their pricing to what Amazon has the actual CD priced for and go with whichever is more economical, most likely.
  11. No doubt. If I didn't already have 2 brand new K-33's, this would be sold.
  12. Yeah, I've seen that one. Good article. It's one of the reasons I've contemplated the Fatial driver and horn. I'm guessing the Klipsch K510 and K691 would be more pricier but maybe I can find a dealer friend to help out there. Thanks for that link.
  13. Thanks for that reply and information about the Belle; I always enjoy reading the history behind the decisions that were made in doing these things in production. Roy had mentioned to me about turning it into a 2-way via email correspondence awhile back and Coytee mentions it quite frequently as do others. I do like the aesthetics of the Belle better than the La Scala especially for how my living room is laid out, and, I just love the Belle looks. I have all the parts to build a 3-way but can do either even if it makes the top section a tad taller to hold whatever horn is in there for the 2-way. Or, not do the top section and run it open. But I'd prefer it to have the stock look.
  14. Ok, so I'm deliberating on what would be required if I decide to go 2-way on the Belle. If I decide to buy K510/K691 (?), is there a passive crossover network I can work with or someone who has built one that would share the diagram? I don't really want to go active...I just want a passive network for running off of a single tube amp. What's the normal price out there for these parts? PM me if it's not allowed in the forum. Is the K510/K691 combo referred to, or ordered as, the KPT-904-HF? Another option is the Fatial Pro HF140 with the LTH142 horn. Bob Crites has mentioned he could do a passive 2-way for those as he uses something similar, or exact, in the Cornscala D. Again, I'm trying to keep this kind of reasonable. If I go 2-way, I'd just sell off all the other parts that make it a 3-way and keep the mnew K-33 woofers. I don't have golden ears anymore nor do I have the space to do a K402 horn in my living room. One day with the separate listening room will be another story. (next year hopefully) Hell, it could turn into Jubilee's then. Who knows...
  15. It does follow the tweeter after swapping sides. I was wondering at first if it was going to be the crossover network in some way. They still sound great but even with my less than stellar HF hearing, I can tell. I had my wife listen too and she confirmed; not awful but noticeable. Thanks foe that offer! Still pondering a pair of Forte 3's instead of building Belle clones. Just not sure. I know it's a completely different presentation.
  16. I had been using the VTA ST-70 since I'd finished the build back in February and had noticed it then too. I'd swapped output tubes and input tubes around with no change. So yesterday, I decided to hook up my horsepower amp back up; Carver M-1.0t MkII Opt 002 @ 460wpc. It definitely runs the snot out of them and sounds great doing it. The CF's love power. I may biamp them one day with the Carver on low end and ST-70 on highs since the Onkyo P-3000R has a handy dandy biamp level adjustment.
  17. I had seen those mentioned earlier when I was home for lunch and listening to the CF-3's and looking up diaphragms, etc. I know it will be tough to find something that will work the same as the K-63 but those might be a viable option. Sometimes I just want to sell off the older stuff I have an buy a new pair of Forte 3's and be done with it. Bought/built a new tube amp earlier this year (VTA ST-70) and just replaced my Carver C-1 preamp with BillD modifications with a new Onkyo P-3000R which has been great. I don't pay retail for anything stereo related; haven't in the past 30 years and won't now. I know 15+ Klipsch dealers over a 8 state area that I can call if need be. I wouldn't have bought a new P-3000R at retail, either so that was an easy choice for me to make. Decisions, decisions...
  18. I know my hearing is jacked up on high frequency but one has more upper HF than the other does. I've swapped RCA's and also swapped speaker leads around and it stays to the same (left) speaker. I guess when I get home tonight I'll swap the horn/driver from one cabinet to another to see if it follows the driver or if it's a potential crossover issue...which is doubtful. It's only been recapped and new Mills resistors. Guess we'll find out later if I need a new K-63-N a.k.a "needle in a haystack" in finding one, once in a blue moon, or, as John Candy said, "I''d probably stand a better chance of finding a 3 legged ballerina than finding a K-63" or "you've have a better chance of playing pick up sticks with your butt cheeks than finding a K-63". I know the EV drivers work but I like these just fine. You get the idea...
  19. But....but....but.....it's not been supported since 4/8/14 and is more vulnerable than iPad 2's on a school network! ha
  20. There's a pair of black Quartets on Little Rock Craigslist for $280 right now. I don't need 'em or want 'em.
  21. Yep, those are the only two versions I use as Onkyo has "proprietary" drivers that had to be installed on the PC before it would work. I agree about it being somewhere in the middle. I would think a decent cable with good shielding and nothing crazy would be all that's needed. I mostly fall into that camp about a digital cable not mattering to a certain extent. Length of cabling is what degrades. That's why HDMI has their standards for cable length as does USB. I believe USB is 16.4 feet. May just get a decent 6 foot cable and give it a whirl. Nothing too fancy but better than what comes out of the Cracker Jacks boxes.
  22. No friends in town that get into audio. Just my best friend of 40 years and that's only occasionally with a lot of my older gear that's been stored there since moving back here in 2010. He has no internet as his place (too far out) so it's all via Spotify or CD's he already has.
