  1. Most likely, I'll just continue on with my Belle build as I can't see that the F3's would sound $3500+ better than the CF-3's (I paid 450 for them plus caps, etc). They are definitely good looking speakers. But after spending 25+ years in the A/V industry, I don't pay retail for anything.
  2. I believe he's wanting just the K-500/501 horns only...not the whole speakers. Or is that what you're referring to as well? ha
  3. Once you make it past the slander and BS back and forth, talk of Maxell and TDK tapes, etc., there's mention of SQ around page 27 on out. It's an exhausting thread to muddle through.
  4. Paul is a great guy. He rebuilt a Soundcraftsmen A5002 amplifier for me years ago and it's been nothing but a stellar performer. Always highly recommended. Last i recall, he lives in the town in Oklahoma that I once did. Yea, those old Yamaha receivers and amps of that era were quite the performers. The first time I heard a pair of Klipschorns was on a 10 or 15 wpc Yamaha amp at Custom Audio in Little Rock back in 1978 or so. Still remember to this day when they pulled the little curtain back and you saw the small amp that was running them.
  5. If you remove the terminal cups Phillips screws, it should give you a good idea of what you need.
  6. This one? http://assets.klipsch.com/product-specsheets/Forte-III-Spec-Sheet-v061.pdf
  7. I had the same problem with the back panels on my KLF-30's. Took them completely off, sanded the melamine to bare wood, then glued/screwed/nailed them back in place from the inside. Also siliconed all seams and did do some minor interior bracing. Ended up selling them but they were very solid.
  8. Well I'll be. That's doable. So now my contemplation will be, do I sell off all my parts for the Belle clones and buy Forte 3's and take the chance they work in my house (and sound better than the CF-3's) or continue on with the Belles and save my money. I just love decisions. Lol. I know they are both two different animals.
  9. Google searches on Forte and Forte 2 and other rear passive speakers. Seems to be from 6 to 24" with 12" about average. I know it's all room dependent but that range would be tough for me...at least in my living room. When the new house time comes, I'll have more room to experiment.
  10. It's the distance from the wall they need to be that kills the deal for me. I'd love to have a set but that 12" or more from wall kills the deal for me. At least in this house.
  11. I'd considered a pair of F3's but I can't do the part about them coming off the wall 12" to 18" to sound right. I have to stay fairly close with the CF-3's and they do just fine. Roy D had told me he's heard Forte 2's within a few inches of the wall that did really well. But, I can't take that chance on buying Forte 3's and them not do good from that distance for the price I can get them for.
  12. Yeah, they were a little off here and there. I added 3/4" solid oak all the way around inside then glued/nailed/screwed the back panels in place and sealed with silicone. Also added a little "bulk" to the top and bottom panels along with a couple more cross braces per cabinet which was all it needed.
  13. Old topic I know but I guess I never added photos to what I did inside the cabinet of the CF-3's. Soooo..... Before pictures... I'll add some more later. Photbucket's site is being a pain. Man, they stink anymore for ads.
  14. Pretty much. I redid the back panels on the KLF-30's I had before I sold them.
  15. I thought I'd made a thread on it at some point but searching for it is a real pain. Found it...
  16. No, I meant the back panels without a doubt. They both were rattling and one was really bad. Both had a shortage of glue in the channels that held them in.
  17. All I did on my CF-3 v3's was extend the port length to what the v1's were, removed/re-attached the rattling back panels, did some basic interior bracing and altered the crossovers to what the v2's are, I believe, as there is no real information on the v1 crossovers. Unless someone has a pair of CF-3 v1's and cares to reverse engineer them. Mine sound great. They have bested a pair of KLF-30's and '78 Cornwall's in my living room, anyway. Results most likely would be different in a different in a different room, but, maybe not. The Epic series, especially CF-3 and CF-4, just sound damn good.
  18. If I remember correctly from corresponding with Roy, the CF horns are crossed over higher being a 2-way design so you may have some frequency issues down at a lower crossover point.
  19. That's why I keep "mad money" which is my hobby/audio money that comes from me buying/selling stuff. But if I want something and it's within the budget, I just get it. Hell, it's not like my wife doesn't waste money on some stupid crap. And the money she spends on things is typically stuff that gets wasted and can never be resold, anyway. I'm always on the better end. ha
  20. Got any AB-2 crossovers floating around there anywhere? You gots lots of pahts for sale! ha
  21. It kills me that Belle's are always for sale so far away and hardly ever near central Arkansas. I guess everyone around here keeps theirs. Unless the "state Klipsch flipper" gets to them first.
  22. I've used Solen caps in most everything home audio and car audio related (crossovers) for the last 25+ years with no problems. They are typically my go to on cap replacement as I've used higher end and don't hear enough justifiable difference in spending more. There's just a point of diminishing return and my ears don't want to pay for any more. Just my $.02
  23. I might could work with that but would still be pushed out more than I'd like. I am not thrilled with this living room nor a fan of the house (wife already had it when we got married). By later this year or early next, we're either building a new one or buying something else. I won't care as much about the living room then as it WILL have a dedicated audio room in it away from the main parts of the house whether that be above the garage, etc., but a good sized room. Then I can bring my 1300+ LP's from my best friends house back to mine. Thanks for the honest opinion, Jim.
  24. Without reading through all 28 pages, what's going to be the recommended distance from the wall for a pair of these? I'd entertain the idea of buying a pair of Forte 3's but I don't want them pulled out a foot or more into the room when I'm already about 12 feet away from the fronts of the CF-3's. I'd hate to spend that kind of money on speakers just to have them not perform like others have. Case in point...keeping my CF-3's and selling the Cornwalls. I don't want to step backwards in low end after spending that kind of money (it won't be at retail/MSRP, mind you....) but I also do want them standing that far out into the room. The CF-3's are almost up against the wall and they work great like that. Just curious.
