  1. I was curious if anyone here was lucky enough to have been selected for Oppo's EAP (Early Adoption Program) for the BDP-83, if so wht do you think about it. I've been keeping tabs over at avs, I was hoping I'd recieve an e-mail, looks like i'm not that luck. Hope it gets released soon, i've been through 3 BD players waiting for the Oppo, now that' i've seen the price I think Oppo will be the winner.
  2. I can hear everything up to 20kHz, haven't tried anything beyond that but I'll give it a crack later today. I feel sorry for you old guys that can't hear......j/k. I take alot of pride in my hearing, I love to listen to music and play music. At work (on the trains) I make sure I wear ear plugs for protection as I want to always hear as I do now.
  3. the 51fd is the same internally as the 05fd with the exception of the video DACs. How do you like your 05? Initial impression of the Pioneer 51FD, sound quality for CD, DVD and BD playback are stellar definitely above the Sony S550, and the PS3. Video upconversion is equal to that of the S550 ( i haven't tried too many SD DVDs on the 51FD). I do like the picture better on the Pionner for BD compared to the S550 and the PS3, the video tweaks in the pioneer are plenty. Hopefully Pionner will release a firmware update with DTS MA decoding soon, suppose to be on its way with adjustable x'overs for multi channel output and DTS MA decodin, we'll see soon enough.
  4. I was curious if anyone here has or has used a Pioneer 51FD, I'm looking for something that has analog outs, BD Live is not important. I'd like to ehar from some of you that have one. I sold my PS3 and currently have a Sony S550, I'm not dissappointed with the S550 just wondering if the Pioneer would be better. I'm sure BD playback is simliar so I'm wondering about SD DVD upconversion and audio playback, ( i know the Pioneer does not sport internal Decoding of DTS MA but hear it's comming soon). What do you gentleman/gentlewoman think>? Stick with the S550 or get the Pionner? or maybe the Samsung? I've not had great luck with the Sammies in the past.
  5. Sorry to hear that Tommy, especially when it comes to any kind of Boxer. We have 3 of them and I don't know what I'll do when one passes. Hope all goes well.
  6. The sony s550 does a greatjob at rendering 24fps which the PS3 did not do a good job at, not sure about the s350. Blu Ray discs are more often then not shot a 24fps vs the refresh rate of SDVD 60fps. This gives the br disc a smoother overall apearance through action scenes and what not.... I think....
  7. Back again.... My listening habits are probably 50 50 split maybe with the edge to music. I listen to music when ever I have the chance and watch movies with the wife at night. I would say we watch 4 -6 movies a week, and I listen to music probably 6 hours a day right now (laid off and spending time with my son). I have the option to get some super cheap RF5's, how "distracting" is having direct radiating speakers as surrounds due to localization? I mean with the RS7's when something comes from the right it comes from the right. Does the large dispersion pattern of Horns actually aid in it ability to be a surround? If you had the option to have the RF5's or RS7's as surrounds which would you choose? IMO i want the RF5's mostly for the "that's cool" factor, I'm sure they'll sound great as surrounds. I've also recently read that with the ned HD audio codes that direct radiating speakers where the ideal for the new formats. Anyone have any thoughts.
  8. Wuzzer loves his if you find some of his posts, He has Forte's and I have the reference series which could be the reason for the differences. I believe inventor has been less than thrilled with his in 2 ch performance, he has reference series as well. There are definitely some options you need to have set correctly, THe double bass option if you run you're speakers full range is a huge on. One thing I wish more recievers did was in direct or pure listening mode was maintain sub xover. This was a complaint of mine, as I like the pure audio and direct modes but it lacked the low end That the sub was used for. The sub (PB13 Ultra) does not have High Level Inputs so I couldn't connect it to the FL and FR for stereo performance in those modes.
  9. I had the ts 805 for a little less than a year, it was a great reciever for movies but IMO i thought its 2 channel performance was shotty at best. For movies and even multi channel music it was great but it's lack of 2 channel performance made me sell it and go to seperates and I'm very glad I did. Once again just my opinoin but others on the forum have been less than thrilled with the 805's 2 ch performance. InVeNtoR........
  10. not only does HK make great sounding products they always look superb. I'm sure it will be a nice addition to someones setup soon.
  11. I would get the sunfire reciever IMO, the onkyo's are built well and sound decent. The HDMI is a nice plus but not a neccessity, a reciever IMO is for sound processing and not so much video processing. If you have a Hi-Def TV you already have HDMI capability, the sunfire gives you analog inputs for the new sound formats so assuming you have/get a player with analog outs you're not losing anything. Actually gaining in crafstmanship, build quality, and it's way cooler to have something sunfire than a something Onkyo.
  12. I didn't really care for what audyssey did in my room
  13. I'm not saying it can't be done but having a quick look at the weight of 42 in plasma I would consider an alternative route. Even though the RC64 is built well I don't think it was built to have a 65 lb TV sitting on it. I know it has internal bracings and what not but it scares the heck out of me. Like i said earlier I've thought about moving my center channel and possible placing my TV (65 in DLP 73 lbs) on my speaker and I'm worried that after awhile the weight of the TV might damage the structure of the speaker. Just my opinoin though.
  14. I've been struggling with this same proble. The location where my center channel is now blocks about an inch and a half or 2 of the speakers and horn. I'd like to get it off of that shelf and place is under the TV to get it up a little higher but I don't want to set my DLP on my RC7. I'd also like to mount it on top but I'm at a loss.....so needless to say.....I've left the center in a not so ideal location.
  15. not what I wanted to hear as I don't have the space right now for anything larger to use as a center. When we get moved it will be an option but for now maybe I'll keep them in the same room and use the Scala for 2 channel listening using and A/B switch. we'll see if I get the scalas or not and whether or not the wife will let me keep them in the same room as everything else............................................................................
  16. I know these are different classes of speakers but how will/do the sound together. I might be getting some La Scalas and I don't want to part with ym RC7 just yet. How will they sound together? What should I expect going from RF5's to La Scala's am I in for a treat?
  17. do the xpa3 the reason I say the xpa3 is because the 200 wpc will be better for all applications IMO than 2 UPA-2s. Keep in mind that it was said earlier somewhere in the post I may have said it..... biamping the UPA2 for 1 channel will "NOT" yeild you the same performance as 250 wpc. 125watts + 125 watts does not = 250 watts. This is because of the passive crossover networks inside the speaker. You'd be better off with 200 wpc on the front 3. More about the bi-amping, because each channel is only rated at having 125 watts available that's all that's made available for the speaker. You get 125 watss to the low end and another 125 watts to the low end, this doesn't give you the same head room as the 200 wpc or the assumed 250 wpc you think you'll be getting. It might help improve the low end but in my expereince with the passive biamping is that it actually made the top end a little harsh at higher volumes. I would stick with the 200 wpc in the xpa 3. I had by RF 5's passive bi-amped with my onkyo and went to a 200wpc amp and the difference was night and day with response to music and HT. So I had 130 watts bi-amped on my RF5's and much prefer the sound of the 200wpc than I did the passive bi-amp way. I would stick with more power and get the bi-amp idea out of your mind unless you plan on taking the passive networks out of the speaker or add an active crossover between the amps and the speakers which is another investment that you girlfriend may not take very lightly too. The conversation would go You: "Well I got my new amp but now I need another piece of equipment to get the most benfit from it" Her: "What will the benefit to me be?" You: "Baby it will be great you'll hear the differen....." Her: "When do we get the pet insurance and how much will this "last" piece cost?...." if you get the chance hop on the xpa-3 you'll enjoy having the front 3 pound.
  18. I've never read or heard that you should put the FR and FL at the same trim level, the same goes for the surrounds, never heard that. Makes sense though as my experience has shown me that amps sound a little different when the trim levels are altered, the problem with having them be set the same is that if you don't sit in that "sweet spot" and you sit closer to the speaker or sit to close or to far from the speaker with the out of balanced trim setting it will sound louder or quieter respectively. I'm a real stickler on trying to get my front stage and my seating posistion on that equi lateral boundaries, i'm 9.5 ft from the TV and center channel and 9.5 feet from the FR and FL channel. I also try to keep the same posistion symmetrical in the room 22 in from the rear wall and about 6ft from the side wall. This helps the speakers maintain the same charectristics within my room. I make sure the Toe In is at the same angle, this ensures that the level settings for my front stage stay equal and 0dB. Alot of it has to do with my OCD of having things look nice aswell as keeping the numbers the same. Just my .02 cents.
  19. you're here on the klipsch forums so I'll assume you have some type of klipsch speaker. There are alot of folks on here that have and enjoy Denon. I personally have no experience with Denon. The 889 is rated at 100 watts a channel which is plenty to drive any Klipsch Speaker. we'll be looking to offer our help
  20. I've been anxious to get a new player with analog outs and was really hoping Oppo would bring theirs to the table sooner. Lookin at estimated cost for the unit I am looking else where. The SACD and DVD-A options would be a great addition to my system but I think that's another Hobby that I don't know if I want to invest my time and money in. So needless to say I've been looking at other BR players.
  21. I'm not against the Panny 55 , the sony 550 or the samsung 2550 but to save the sapce of saying this vs this vs this I just between these 2 as the other standalone BDPs are relative in cost and I believe performance. I'm looking for something to replace my PS3 with, I'm looking for something with analog outs to go with the new processor. Will i get the same audio performance out of all of them. the Samsung uses ESS tech DACs which i read are found in krelly equipments, wolfson in the panny, no idea on the sony. anythoughts?
  22. no realse date between 500 - 700 bucks has been the thought on price.
  23. I'm in the market to sell my ps3 and get a new BR player with analog outs. Shuold I wait for the oppo or get the samsung 2550, I was holding off on the samsung as it didn't decode DTS MA, but now it does. The Oppo sounds nice but I have no SACDs or DVDA discs which is probably not something I want to get involved in. So If it will be a pure DVD player and an occasional CD player which would be your choice? Is there much of a difference in the upscaling feature between the HQV processor in the samsung and the Anchor Bay chip in the Oppo? Cheaper would be better , so I'm leaning toward the sammy, load times are not a huge issue as I understand that it takes a certain amount of time to access 50 gigs of material on the BR disc vs the 4.7gigs on a dvd. Maybe I say this because i'm spoiled fromhaving the PS3. Anyways weigh in and let me know what you think.
