  1. Looking for some help on what the market value for these may be. These came extra with the khorns I bought from a forum member (fenderbender) a couple of years a ago. The khorns came with ALK ESN's and they are not going anywhere so was thinking these may as well be put to use. The auricaps and non-stock barrier strips (for ease of installation) were added by forum member Mark1101 as I understand it. I see Bob Crites gets $365 for his new AK-3's. I understand the auricaps are fairly expensive. Any help appreciated.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a look.
  3. Trying to bias my dynaco st-70. One side reads fine. The other side show a very low reading and it won't move off that even when I turn the bias screw. Any ideas? I tried different power tubes on that side, same result. Tried different rectifier tube too.
  4. You are welcome. Happy to be able to pass on the good deal I got. Enjoy..
  5. So true. My favorite of all time was the Jim McKay '76 summer olympics.
  6. Appreciate the advice and comments. I think it will go fast at this price on a couple of other sites. Wanted to pass on a good deal in the event someone here is interested. Also, my first preference is to deal with someone here.
  7. Bought from blister8160 of the forum in 05/2013. He was the first owner and bought it brand new in 06/2012 at Magnolia Audio/Video in the Ft. Worth, TX. It looked like new when I got it and it still does to my eyes. I'll go with near mint to be safe. Can't find a flaw on it. Have original stellar packing, remote, manual. All original. Never tampered with. Got a good deal from Randy and I'm passing that on to a forum member. $3750 plus shipping/insurance and paypal fee if you choose to pay that way. Shifting some financial priorities around. Check around on some sites and compare this price. This unit works great with Klipsch speakers not only because of the smooth, clear sound and dead quiet operation, but also because the volume control on the remote. It has 99 steps I believe, very small increments which is a must with high sensitivity speakers. Been using it with a mc2105 and my khorns. Go to the McIntosh site and read all about it. Full function preamp including great mm/mc phono stage and a full function remote. Beautiful piece. Pictures don't do it justice. I have a photocopy of the actual original receipt in an email attachment.
  8. Very nice. I think the la scala is a great looking speaker with or without the grills. I started with rf-3's then went to rf-7's. They are very good. Then one day my brother gave me his 1980 heresies that he didn't use. Although the bass was of course not as deep, I couldn't believe how much more lifelike the music sounded. Been a heritage guy ever since and my journey stopped with khorns. I'll have khorns for as long as I possibly can.
  9. Back on topic: I'm with JJKIZAK. Buy the khorns, keep the cornwalls. If its a decent deal you can sell khorns if it doesn't work out and lose little or nothing. Experience tells me don't sell a speaker you love for one you have not heard in your room. At worst, you can resell khorns. But keep them if you can.
  10. When I was just a kid out of college, I ordered all the Klipsch Papers, including the "Dope from Hope" dealer newsletters. Paul Klipsch had plans for two things that he built for himself, and I did the same. One was a resistor box to get a mono center channel from any stereo line source, and the other were False Corners for Khorns. About 9 years later, I spent a day with PWK. We met at the factory in Hope, then he took me back to his house. He had TWO false corners in his large living room for his Khorns. Everything PWK ever wrote about, he actually did. He was fully aware of the issues his customers had concerning natural corners and came up with a solution that he used for himself. Basically you buys studs and make 4x4 foot corners that you cover with drywall. The corner horn mouth extension doesn't do much beyond 4 ft, so that is big enough. In my case I made one out studs and drywall, with a 3ft x 4 ft stabilizer tail ("L" shaped as viewed from the top). It's a cheap and easy solution to having horn bass which is FAR superior to a Cornwall bass, even though it's the same woofer. Thanks, Claudej1. I love the PWK stories. Kind of like talking to folks who have seen Elvis in person. Hang on every word..
  11. Oh how I wish and it is in driving distance too. I've bought from Don before and had a good experience. Like the passive crossovers since I'm more of a plug and play guy. Just didn't work out -- this time.
  12. Khorns are irreplacable. On the wife thing: don't forget the tried and true method of reminding her that this is your only vice and it is relatively harmless. You could be doing worse things. Be sure and give a few examples of worse.
  13. I think you are making a good decision.
  14. If it is agreed that the choice of wire can have an effect on the sound then it would stand to reason there will be differing opinions on which sound is the best. I use blue jeans speaker wire and interconnects in my system.
  15. I bought Heresy 3's a year ago for the same two reasons Budman gave and also for most of the same reasons that I like buying a new car more than buying a used one or building my own.
  16. Those are nice. Bought some cherry ones last year and they are definitely keepers. What finish is that? Did you order them online or buy them from a local dealer?
  17. I'll add that had Arville at Durham's has done work for me on several occasions and he's always done good work. Been in business in that location for a long time. He is right next to what was Custom Audio which was one of the main Klipsch dealers for many years in Little Rock.
  18. Dean, the audiogon listing I mentioned above seems to have produced a buyer. We got far enough into the transaction last night before I saw your post today that it will be a deal if he doesn't back out. If that does fall through I'll give you a call. Tim
  19. I think Auburn has beat 4 top 10 teams this year. FSU beat Clemson. Auburn outscores them.
