  1. I think you're right. I am driving my La Scala's (org.) with a David Hafler 100wpc (8 ohms) amp. and there is plenty of head room. I rarely turn it up to the half way point. I too am using a sub. So I would think 185wpc (4 ohms) would give you plenty of headroom. Dennie
  2. I brought mine in by myself. I placed some particle board (smooth) and slid them in on a blanket. I couldn't wait. Once in the house I just did them end over end to get them where I wanted them. Bruce If you get an appliance dolly (one with a strap) for this, it will become your favorite tool! Hey Fini, That is what I thought I was going to do. But when I went to lift them out of my pick up truck, I decided to get help. Now I just do what Bruce does, I just slide them around on the carpet, end over end if necessary! Luckily they are built well! Dennie I cannot imagine a dolly like that, even a well built one, being so heavy. (Just so much hot air) So did you try using the strap on? Doing them end over end.....way to go. -fini'sfriend I never got to the dolly part. I didn't have a ramp to use the dolly to get them out of my pick up truck. So I was going to lift them out of the truck and use the dolly w/strap, to get them up the front stairs(3) and into the house. But when I tried to lift them out of the truck, being a disabled veteran, I decided against it. My biggest fear was dropping one of them and having to glue the pieces back together. [:'(] Getting help was the easiest and safest way to go. If my neighbor wouldn't of been home, I would have managed with levers and pullies, as I imagine our ancestors did when they brought their La Scala's home! [] Dennie
  3. Are you saying that the Khorns would be a step down from "stacked La Scala's"? Stacked LS's meaning 2 on each side of the room stacked on top of each other? I'm not sure that Khorns would be a step down. [:^)] Dennie
  4. Hi Patty, welcome to the Klipsch forums! We're glad your here. I have to tell you, I have the same problem and the only thing I have been able to do is turn the volume down before hitting any buttons, always!. It only took me a couple of times of forgetting (and my dog running for the dog door), now it is automatic. Maybe someone else will have a solution? Dennie

  6. I hear you on that! The specifications say: 123lbs, but they feel more like 125lbs! When I brought mine home, I thought I could bring them inside by myself. HA! [:$] I had to wake up my neighbor, to help me. [] He got over it as soon as he heard them! [] BTW, I should have posted that my La Scala's are at 13' and 11' from my chair. Dennie
  7. I use 3-ring binders, 1 1/2 " I think. I just tuck them under the front of mine and it raises them up so the tweeter/squawker is aimed right at my ears. Hope this helps, Dennie
  8. "YOU ARE NOW UNDER MY SPELL. AT THE COUNT OF 3 YOU WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE GARAGE SALE FORUM AND BECOME ONE WITH THE TUBES!!!" Stare at one of the 5 wheels. It will appear to be motionless but the other four will seem as though they are turning. Whichever one you stare at will appear to suddenly stop spinning. In reality - none of the wheels are turning at all.But I'm not looking..... Dennie[:|]
  9. LOL! I will NOT drink the Kool-aid, I will NOT drink the Kool-aid, I will NOT drink the kool-aid!!!! (opens eyes) Dang, you guys are still here! [:@] Yet! Dennie[:|]
  10. See......Here you go! [] A great read and it sounded like you had a great time! I hate threads like this, as I have never heard tubes with my La Scala's (that is not an invitation for anyone who lives near me to bring tubes over!). I'd bet my reaction would be similar to yours and look at you, you're sold! Three watts? Are you kidding ME? And you liked it? LOL Yeah, I better stop now, before I get like you, and find myself in the Garage Sale section.[^o)] Thanks for the post and enjoy those tubes! Dennie
  11. It just goes to show how much more efficent the RF 3's are compared to the Kenwood's. I don't know which Kenwood's you used and what the spec's are, but here are the spec's for the RF3's.... (Keep in mind, 117dba can cause hearing damage in a very short time) Specifications RF 3 FREQUENCY RESPONSE 37Hz-20kHz(+-)3dB POWER HANDLING 150 watts maximum continuous (600 watts peak) SENSITIVITY 98dB @ 1watt/1meter NOMINAL IMPEDANCE 8 ohms
  12. I felt the same way about my 30 year old La Scala's. I bought them from the original owner and they sounded amazing. I was talking to Bob Crites on the phone one night and asked him: Do you really think they can sound better with new Caps/crossovers? He just laughed! The new crossovers came a couple of days later and I could not believe my ears. It was literally like taking a blanket off my speakers. Over the next couple of weeks, they just sounded better and better. Now, I wish I would have done it sooner. Sure, enjoy them for now. They sound amazing. But when you start to wonder if the can sound better........they CAN!!!! Congrats on the new Belles! They are truly beautiful speakers! Dennie
  13. Yeah, and Vinyl Records are so Last Millennium! [] Dennie
  14. Your Adcom has something wrong with it. Did someone mess around with the biasing? If you hook it up to a 'scope, do see oscillation? It should not be running hot, especially at idle. BTW, the series 2 on the Adcom has some capacitor upgrades on the power supply. Those will have a very clean sounding bass. They are currently going for about $325-375 on eBay. IMO, an absolute steal. I would have to agree. If your 555 is running hot at idle, there is something wrong with it and I would unplug it when not in use, if you are using it. I have a GFA 555 and it is a solid amp with lots of headroom. Mine is out on loan right now (for the last year or so), but it is a great, solid, dynamic, sturdy, capable amp. I have no experience with the Parasound, but I hear they are also very capable amps. Dennie

  16. Happy Happy Birthday, Michael! [^] [G] I hope you have many, many more. Dennie
  17. There are many things to consider. Do you use a subwoofer? If so, you will need line level inputs to the sub if you get the Pioneer. Are you using a turntable? If so, does the HK have phono inputs? How many components are you hooking up? Do both units have enough inputs and, inputs of the right kind. If you are hooking up a DVD player, I'm pretty sure the Pioneer doesn't have an optical input. Which one fills all of your needs? Now and in the future. Dennie
  18. NICE!!! Bob also built my crossovers. A night and day difference. I thought they sounded good before the new crossovers, but they came to life. I got the Type AA/A Convertible crossovers. I have only run them as Type AA so far. So, how do they sound? Dennie
  19. I second ahhhh........Third that! [Y] Dennie
  20. Hey Wuzzer, you know how we like showing off our gear? I bet he is the same way. Try dropping a "I sure would love to hear those Khorns" next time you talk to him. I bet he'd love to show off his gear! Thanks for sharing the story, it isn't often I talk to anyone who knows Klipsch. Dennie
  21. Did you try unplugging it for 10 minutes? If you feel comfortable opening it up, check for a blown fuse. There are usually about 10 phillips screws, just take them out and pull the cover off. If you find a blown fuse, take it with you to Radio Shack (or something simular) and ask for an exact match. Oh, I guess I should say, unplug it before opening it up and don't touch anything inside that you don't need to touch. I hope this helps, Dennie
  22. Hey Obilo, I have mine facing the house. Although I do not have a covered patio, I started out with the speakers on the back of the house. Then one day for giggles, I moved the speakers out to the yard facing the house and it sounded so much better. Instead of firing over our heads and into the yard, they now fire towards the house where we are sitting on the deck. Just my .02 cents! Dennie
  23. Thanks Win, It is always good to hear when a company does what all companies should do, but don't. While we're on the subject of "honorable" companies, I would like to mention SVS, which is now SVSound. A good company with good products and great Customer Service. It makes a difference. To me at least. Thanks again Win! Dennie
