If your amp section range is in the 1500-2000 dollar range a set of used VRD monoblocs are the ticket. Opinions vary but they must be considered at anything near this price point. Paired with a Peach pre you would have 2500-3000 invested. If this is dooable I strongly reccomend that you consider it. I will go out on a limb and say that this combo is pretty much upgrade proof in my highly biased opinion. The search for the VRDs may be a lengthy one but they do eventually pop up.

Record cleaning sucks- particulary when you have 200 old albums from the 70s in questionable condition. TH- Got the BBXT yet? I am dying to hear about it. Sipping on a Modelo especial between cussing fits cleaning these dam records.

I ran a Peach 2 with a Mac 2105 SS amp unitl I could find/afford a set of VRDS. The tube Pre added a great deal of warmth to the Mac SS but the final addition of tube Monoblocs was an OMG upgrade. Start with a nice tube pre and buy the amps later. I highly recomend finding a used Peach which works well with just about anything.

Dont expect to get a ZU modded 103/103r anytime soon. Some @ss at ZU quoted me a 3-5 business day turnaround using my cartridge. Based on this I purchased a new 103-R. I called back for shipping instructions and was informed that they were out of parts- HAD BEEN FOR 6 MONTHS!!!!! no mods until the "fall of 2010" whatever thr &^^% that means. Others on AG have said that I would be lucky to see anything before the second quarter of 2011. Consider this situation when making your choice. Am i angry? Just a little.

Perfect Carolina day indeed- kenney wayne sheppard blasting thru the modded horns and tubes at 110 db according to the nifty radio shack meter I bought a while back. On my 3rd kettle and tonic and feeling mighty fine. A weekend of Audio hell. Cleaning records. Correcting shortcuts in wiring and moving components around to accomidate TT placement and and phono pre leads to avoid using exrta RCA interconnects. 3 huge Porterhouse steaks marinating form Fresh Market. Munching out on shrimp and smoked salmon apps.Decanting a nice Tuscan cab to swill doown with the steaks. Enjoying the last few hours before returning to hell(work). Enjoy!!!!!!!!!! Bob- the install went perfectly- had to remove another brace to install the drivers- those are some monsters. like I said huge improvement. I used an alignment tool on the holes and built a nest of wood and cardboard to support them during installation. Definitely a 2 man job- but I was able to pull it off by myself.Of course the woofer section wires were too short to reach the crossovers- had to make up some out of speaker wire. I have pretty much decided to close in the bass bins at some point.

Avacodo is the fruit of the gods- We stopped off and bought a nice ripe one tonite on the way home. All of the Mexican eateries around here have started charging like 1.75-2.50 extra for Guacamole on the side or in the dishes. Wt%??????? I break down and buy it anyway because I love the stuff but it still makes me mad. A decent mex dinner for 3 runs about 40 bucks not counting beer or tip around here. Couple of cervesas and a decent tip - you are looking at 60 bucks.

Having started with k horns and some pretty average electronics(in terms of what is used on this forum) and worked my way up the peach/vrd stuff I can say that the question is legitimate. The tube electronics were definitely an OMG upgrade as was the 2" horn- JBL driver-ALK universal upgrade to the K horns themselves. No doubt that tubes are a huge upgrade but the fact remains that K horns- belles and lascallas soung great with the most basic electronics.I heard a set of Belles hooked to a 10 dollar mini amp and a worn out old CD player the other day and the Belles sounded amazing. Speakers win hands down.

IMHO the lascala is the ultimate HT speaker-maybe their best intended use?- I think that they are a better HT speaker than a 2 ch speaker. Find 3 used Lascalas- make whatever cosmetic and mod adjustments that you feel necessary and be done with it. Upgrade proof front 3 HT lineup and pretty darn nice 2ch speaker setup as well. The Lascalas will also work with any heritage combination down the road. Anytime I turn on my TV I am listening to 3 Lascalas- center and rears. I could not imagine having anything else in those positions. They are stock and I have a grand total of 900.00 in them. Bought from forum members.[Y]
