  1. It utterly and completely matters not the nationality of the innovator. All that matters is the innovation(s).
  2. A good hot sauce on a cracker is one of my favorite things in the whole world. I've been known to eat a sleeve (or two) of saltines topped with hot sauce and kosher salt in a single sitting. It's been a while since I've had a bottle of PICKAPEPPER here. I guess I need to pick up a bottle on the next grocery run. Thanks for the suggestion.
  3. Agreed! There are a LOT of great forums on the intrawebs populated by a LOT of GREAT people. I owe so much to so many. I can only hope to pay back in some small way. I've already decided that just as soon as I can afford to move up the food chain as it were these Heresys will be donated to the next forum member who for whatever reason finds himself without Klipsch speakers to listen to. I think it would be an interesting project to have a pool of Klipsch speakers scattered around the country and freely available at no cost (save for transportation) to those in need of a pair no questions asked. I know that there are many members here who have unused Klipsch speakers collecting dust. That's just sad to me. They should all be singing. I'm not without guilt here. There was a time no so long ago when I had 7 assorted pairs here but only two of them were in use. It's called "Karma" and right now neo33 along with several other member here ought to be swimming in good karma
  4. Thursday at 04:00 my Dad and I piled in to his 01 Honda Civic along with a cooler full of drinks and a box full of snacks and headed north. About 8 hours or so later we arrived at the office of a friend of neo33's who had been assigned as the "keeper" of a pair or 84 HBRs until such time as I could arrange to take possession of them. They are in VERY nice condition. WAY better than I had anticipated considering neo33 was giving them away. Neo33's friend (Joseph) was very helpful in assisting us in locating his office (Dad and I were at times "locationally challenged) but in the end we found Joseph and the Heresys. Also deserving of my eternal gratitude are those (you know who you are) that chipped in a few bucks to cover the fuel costs. Thank you guys. I owe all of you BIG TIME. All told the trip took 18 hours from the time I backed out of my garage until I pulled back in. Here they are: A pair of 1984 Klipsch Heresy HBR. Overall in very nice condition with clean grills and original badges intact. Somewhere along the line someone gave them some stain and a coat or two of what appears to be gloss polyturathane. Not one of my favored looks but hey... I ain't complaining at all. I did open one up and they appear to be completely original. This weekend I'll bust in to them and clean all of the connections and apply gasket tape to the back cover. Eventually I'll be doing a capacitor replacement as 28 year old caps are probably a little out of spec. Some day I'd like to scrape together the coin to veneer them in cherry. I've always wanted a pair of cherry Heresys. As I type this they're in the living room belting out a little Mark Knopfler. They're sounding pretty good. Well worth the 17 hours on the road and the cost of the gas. I'm a happy camper. Oh yea... The thread that got all of this rolling can be read here: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/168679.aspx
  5. I think that there have been some who were just too "forward" thinking. Tesla comes to mind first. Edison looked first out how to monetize and profit from an invention. Tesla never considered how to get rich off of something thinking instead of the "greater good". This would be why Tesla died pennieless in a hotel and Edison died a very rich man. Yes... I've been a student of both of them for many many years. Mr. Musk has had an extraordinary run to date. I hope he keeps it up. He's exactly the kind of "visonary" that our country and our industry needs. My hope is that he doesn't get tagged with the "too forward" thinking thing that wrecks future works the way Tesla's did.

  7. I'd replace it too. If budget is a problem any of the Ortofon 2M styli will fit that cartridge. You could get a 2M Red stylus for $100 less than the Blue. Then when you did spring for a new Blue stylus you'd have a spare on hand. I've had both a Blue and a Red at one time or another. I didn't think there was a whole lot of difference between them. Both the Red and the Blue share the same cartridge body. The only difference between them is the stylus assembly.
  8. A few months ago my pull down attic stairway gave out while I was on it and and dumped my happy @$$ to the concrete below. Like you I laid there for a few minutes to "assess" the damage. In the end I hadn't broken anything but D@MN was I sore for a few weeks. No... I didn't take any pictures but my lower back was pretty ugly for a while.
  9. It was NOT my intent when I made the original post for this thread to become "political". It was nothing more than a "where where you?" and "do you remember?" kind of thing. That said I truly believe that the policy of "MAD" (mutually assured destruction) has got to be the stupist thing I've ever heard of. There are no "winners" in any nuclear exchange. Only lots and lots of dead civilians. The sooner we as a species banish thermo-nucular weapons from this planet the better for mankind.
  10. Giving away my Belles at the insistence of my then (now ex) wife. In her defense I didn't actually give them away. The guy who bought then never got around to paying for them.
  11. US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, TX. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing? I was just shy of 6 years old and at my Grandparent's greenhouse. There was an old radio on a shelf over the sink in the work room. They broke in to the broadcast to give the news. I remember my Grandmother sobbing at the news. I was too young to understand or appreciate the significance of the event but I do remember it taking place all these years later.
  12. Yea... Those Infinitys were just unbelievably bad across the board. What's funny is that less than a year after I sold them I went out for my morning walk and they were on the curb for trash pickup. Even funnier... They weren't there on the homeward bound leg of the walk. I guess the guy who bought them "figured it out" and decided to pass them along to some other unsuspecting victim. After the Infinitys I bought a new pair of Magnepan MMGs which served me well for several years. Right up until I picked up a pair of pristine 76 Heresys (HBRs with cane grills) for $100 and I was once again reminded of the sound that I loved. After that it was pair Cornwalls followed by a pair of La Scalas followed by a pair of Cornscalas. Along the way there were a pair of Forte's, a pair of Chorus IIs, a pair of Cornwall IIs, and a pair of RF-3 IIs. Not to mention several pairs of Heresys that came and went. Unfortunately I am currently without a pair of Klipsch speakers. A situation I plan to remedy just as soon as possible. I have several spectacular offers from the members here to get me back to listening to Klipsch speakers. I'm sure that sooner rather than later there will be another pair of Klipsch whatever gracing my living room and belting out terrific sounds. Today I'm going back and forth between a pair of DIY large-ish bookshelves and a pair of Magnepan SMGAs. Quite frankly I'm VERY surprised at how good my "off the cuff" designed DIY speakers are. I intended them to be my garage speakers but the more I listened to them the more I liked them. Go figure?
  13. What Andy said. If I were in your position I'd be on the hunt for a nice matched pair. You could probably get as much or nearly as much selling your mismatched CWs either as singles or a pair than what a matched pair would cost you. The trick is having the patience to wait for a nice pair to come up for sale at a decent price. This thread again raises a question that I've asked before but never have received a definitive answer. Just what is the percentage of internal volume difference before it effects sonics? 1%? 5%? 10%? More than that?
  14. Is it anything like this one? If so I'm all in. Heck I could even learn to like sushi. [] Truth is I do like sushi. Good sushi is tough to come by in the back woods of rural Central Florida. It's available and edible but I wouldn't call it "good". Especially once you've been spoiled by the West Coast and Hawaiian goods.
  15. Actually I'm cooking today. OK... More like chopping and mixing. The "cooking" happens tomorrow. Thanksgiving dinner is at my sister's house this year. I'm bringing spinach dip in a bread bowl to nosh on before we eat (done), cucumbers in cream (one of my Dad's all time favorites and in process), a corn casserole, and maccaroni & cheese. The two baked items won't get built until tomorrow morning.
  16. So I'm hanging out here waiting for the ladies to show up. If they don't get here soon I'll be too drunk to do anything when the do arrive.
  17. I think it's fun when someone dredges up an old thread. Especially one that I'd never seen. Here's my tale of sonic woe. After giving away* a pair of Belles at the insistance of the wife (now ex wife) I bought a pair of used JBL L65 Jubals. They sounded pretty good. Not Belle good (some would argue that) but I was happy with them. A few years later the house was broken in to and the Jubals stolen. The insurance company would NOT just stroke me a check to buy what I wanted. They insisted on "replacing" the stolen equipment with "equivalent" equipment. A couple of weeks later a truck pulled up at the office with my "replacement" equipment in boxes. They did pretty good with the receiver, cassette deck, and CD player choices. All were at least as good up to much better than what was stolen. And then there's the speakers. I'd like to have a chat with the person who thought that the a pair of Infinity SM-152s was the equivalent" of the JBL Jubals. Really? OMG did those Infinitys SUCK. They only did one thing well. Get really REALLY loud. They didn't stay here very long. One of my neighbors thought they were the coolest thing he's ever seen. I made him a helluva deal. * In fairness to the ex I didn't actually give them away. I sold them. It's just that the buyer never did get around to paying me for them.
  18. Looks like the parties involved are headed to mediation: http://money.cnn.com/2012/11/19/news/companies/hostess-bankruptcy-bonuses/index.html?source=cnn_bin From what I've read lately even massive concessions from the unions won't save Hostess for very long.
  19. Finally got at around to watching the latest installment this morning. I really enjoyed it and it sounded great on my 3-piece Altec Lansing computer speakers. I'm looking forward to the next installment. In the mean time I'll be watching/listening to past shows.
  20. It was a pretty cool little amp. It had a USB port and SD card slot and would play MP3 files off of a flash drive or card. It also had a FM tuner in it. It didn't have external antenna connections so I never used it. Where I live the only stations I can receive without an outdoor antenna are the local country station and a couple of Spanish language channels. Here's another shot of it: At my last job I had this little guy in my office.
  21. Back when I had a computer in my bedroom/office I had a little Chinese built EL84 amp and a pair of Polk Monitor 10s The source was the line out from my PC. It sounded pretty good but would have benefited from a subwoofer. Not much bass output from those little Polks.
  22. I DO NOT advocate acts of violence against thieves. People who commit acts of violence against others is another story. I would be happy to "flip the switch" or "push the plunger" on the guy that killed so many in the theater in Colorado. In my eyes there is no "property" that is worth doing harm to another over. That said if you threaten harm to me and mine you'll be faced with a big ole can of whoop@SS fronted by a Mossberg 500 12 gauge riot gun.
  23. +1 on the Electro Harmonix gold pin tubes. I changed out the original Chinese tubes in my Dared MC-7P with the EH golds and got an immediate improvement across the board. Much more detail. Just better all around. I really liked that little "low budget" preamp. Paired up with a Bob Latino VTA ST-120 and driving a pair of La Scalas was probably the best sounds my living room every experienced. Unfortunately it along with the amp and speakers fell victim to the financial realities of extended unemployment. What kind of place is this? The kind of place that another member would offer up a pair of Heresys to a poor schlep like me free for the taking. All I need to do is pick them up or cover the shipping.
  24. At no point in my post did I state that the 24/96 FLACs bettered vinyl. What I said was that vinyl wasn't "enough better" (to me) than the FLACs to justify the effort I have to put in to spinning vinyl. There are four factors at play here. (1) I'm 54 and I know for certain that my hearing has deteriorated dramatically from what it once was. (2) I'm lazy. Pressing a button on a remote control and hearing an album in its entirety has great appeal to me. (3) To me the shear "convenience" of digital formats has great value [see #2]. (4) I have some physical limitations that make spinning vinyl on a regular basis somewhat problematic. This is why I sold of a couple of VERY nice manual turntables in favor of a fully auto table. Playing the same album and being able to switch back and forth between up to 3 different formats at the push of a button was enlightening. In best to worst order it would be (1) vinyl, (2) FLAC, (3) SACD, and (4) CD. I did not mention it in the original post but I also compared a 320K VBR rip of the same album with the others. To my ears the 320K rip was a tie with the CD. I could not distinguish any difference between the two.
  25. PMs have been sent to all those offering help. Thanks guys!!!
