  1. Crazy.....to stay up to date, even with HT now, it involves contant upgrades. I just saw some posts on the Emotiva forum wanting composite Inputs/Outputs gone from modern processors. I would like at least a few 'antique' composite I/Os, especially when buying a processor. I'm a big fan of compatibily, even beyond the realm of audio. Not having a composite option would be like.......not being able to reminisce. It would suck.
  2. Was going to put this in wuzzzer's UMC-1 review, but didn't want to hijack, SO: I noticed Emotiva mentions an XMC-1, but didn't see it featured anywhere. I emailed them and recieved: The XMC-1 is currently under development. We are expecting release in 1st quarter 2011. We will have more information as we receive them. Not sure if 'release' means Emotiva gets them, or available to consumers. Maybe this is all over the Emotiva Lounge Forum, but I don't get over there. This messes with my UMC-1 urge.
  3. Thanks for the review wuzzzer. I'm still selling and saving to purchase a processor, and the UMC-1 is intriguing.
  4. I've been using Foobar for a couple months and enjoy it so far. Free and easy to use, audio player only.
  5. Posting Pics: When posting, click on the 'options' tab at the top of your post, click 'add/update' under File Attachment, click 'Browse' to find your pic on your hard drive, and click 'Save' (all the way to the right), then 'Post'. You'll need something written with a picture, otherwise to won't work. Look forward to seeing your monoliths.
  6. What brought you to that specific player, dtel? I'm thinking about buying a newer bluray to also take advantage of wireless fun. It looks like a very nice unit, but there are so many out there. There is alot of different players out there. I decided I wanted the wireless for sure, I then started reading every review I could find, even reviews from people who bought them. The only negative thing I could find was the previous model before this one had some reliability issues, but not this model. Also it is not the fastest to load, but to me 15 seconds is no big deal if thats the only problem. The reviews said the picture quality was very good and the wireless was also good. The prices I have found was from on sale $195 at One Call, now at $224 to the full regular price of $249 like at BB. It's just a shot in the dark, you never really know, at least I did all I could to check it out. Shot in the dark is so true. I've purchased stuff in the past and, after using it hands on, had it go both ways. I'll look at this unit and other competitors.

  8. From what I understand, your RC64 should work fine in a tight enclosure. I would think a ported center would potentially have more problems in a similar enclosure. From here I'll let other, more knowledgable members respond.
  9. Congratulations on your Klipsch HT purchase, man. I'm with tdkamerica. That Onkyo may have enough cajones for your listening needs. 130 watts x 7 channels shoudn't be dismissed without trying first.
  10. Congrats (if you find the time) on your purchase! Don't worry about the RC-64 being sealed. It can be powered the same as a ported center channel. That Onkyo 805 is a very capable receiver. Use the Onkyo alone first and see how you like it before going into power amps. If you do end up wanting more wattage, I can't speak for the new RF-7 IIs but the originals do like lots of power. More channels in an amp = more options in how to power your setup. I've read posts here where an XPA-3 was purchased, then they wanted more channels. Depends on what you want. If you are one to change around your setup often I'd suggest getting a 5 channel. BUT, It's totally a fine path to get a 3 channel power amp then use your Onkyo for powering the surrounds. The Onkyo will perform very well driving just a pair. Be sure and post pictures of your new gear in the Home Theater section, and tell us what you think.
  11. I like the look of a speaker 'standing on its own'. Not all space needs to be filled. Take cover! [li]

    RF-5s

Nice score. Can't speak from experience but I've read how the 5s are a great speaker, and are often overlooked due to the 7's big shadow. The 5s will compliment your setup VERY well. Have fun!
  13. Nice set up, xj0hnx. Are those RF-7s?
  14. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/138027/1400733.aspx#1400733 From a different thread in 2-Channel. Forte IIs in Oak Oil.
  15. Sorry thebes. I do not want to ruin this thread - thought I was contributing. I've edited/removed this post. Please accept my apologies.
  16. I bought the RF-3 II HT package through them about seven years ago. RF3II, RC3II, RS3II, RSW12. FWIW, The only issue I had was none of the speakers had a Klipsch sticker.
  17. I think both the RF-82II and RF-7 would be an upgrade to the KG 4. Now to digress. I also listen to a good deal of 'thick' music. I had a pair of KG 4s side by side with RF-3s, Forte IIs, and KG 4.2s (pic). I was switching between my HK AVR 525 and a Scott 299-C in original condition. I did set up each pair properly before listening (just took this 'stacked' picture at the time for kicks). The KG 4s sounded the most canned (or thin) out of this bunch. Granted, they were the oldest and had all original parts. When comparing, I was amazed at how quickly my ears would get accustomed to whatever pair playing. Then I'd switch, play the same songs with a different pair, and my ears would be thrown off again. Directly A/B-ing was fun! You seem already set on exploring a newer reference model, which is totally a fine path. It will be cheaper if you find a used Reference, like an RF-82 ($500-600), or go back further with an RF-3 (around $350). You'll get to compare at much less cost. Buyer's remorse is cut down considerably. Give the Heritage line an equal opportunity. They present music/vocals differently than Reference. Not saying better or worse, that's up to your taste. Good used deals come around, just check Craigslist often. In two channel, I use Forte IIs with an HK 730 and they are really wonderful. Good luck and post again once you have found something.
  18. Kept waiting for him to fall 'out of character' and start laughing, like a skit on Mad TV gone off the tracks.
  19. You got one hell of a deal. To compare: In fall of '09 I sold my RF-3 IIs locally for $350, RC-3 II for around $200 on Ebay, and RS-3 IIs for $220 on Ebay. You have a great HT. Set it up and rock on. [Y]
  20. Excellent setup wipster. It's hard to fend off that upgrade urge, especially if you've had the same gear for a while. Good decision in keeping the Forte's. If anything, buy the RF-63s for another area of the your dwelling. []
  21. For comparison, eight months ago I bought a used and mint RF-82 pair for $550.
  22. First off, ads suck. Now.....95% of the time I hate ads for overplaying songs that I normally don't have a problem with. The other times I hate ads for playing something obscure enough that I thought of as 'mine'. A 'mine' example was during the World Series, Diamondbacks beat the Yankees (2000?). Don't remember what they were selling - too blindsided by a track from Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II. "Hey, that's mine!" Every so often I've been exposed to good stuff. There was a Volkswagen commercial about 12 years ago that played Nick Drake's Pink Moon. Loved it - bought the album and it's amazing. Tell you what should be banned from commercials, due to overuse: -born to be wild -magic carpet ride -wild thing -sweet home alabama There is more, just can't think at midnight.
  23. How does that saying go? "happy wife = happy home" I think a girlfriend is close to that, especially when living together. Patience is a good trait. Good luck in your search.
  24. Some cherry stain and poly finish, and that homemade center channel bin will blend well. Very nice setup.
  25. Yes. That's one of the problems I had with the Star Wars prequels. They had a very different feel than the original three, and were geared toward a younger audience. I guess I had grown up some in between.... a little.
