  1. Yeah, EVERYBODY wants an Academy. Klipsch would make a killing if they started producing them again. If you have the room and the desire, you could always build your home theater with 5 or 6 identical speakers. I hope to find another pair of KG-4's and go this route. There were some for sale on Audiogon in KC, but I missed them.
  2. Got it for the Xbox. Cool game.
  3. I graduated nearly 1 year ago and I already miss college. I applied to grad school, but didn't get in I'd like to try to get into a different program, but that'll have to wait a year.
  4. Isn't the KG-2 a sealed speaker? I'd go with Jim's idea if it is.
  5. I got all 5 of the speakers below including stands and wires for $550. I got a second pair of KG-4's for $175. IMO, $200 is too high.

Doug ---------------- LOL, my Denon doesn't even HAVE component inputs/outputs. Yeah, I'm a little behind the times. The TV doesn't have them either, so no big loss.
  7. I thought I saw a pair on Audiogon for $70. Check there. $200 is wayyyy to much, even mint.
  8. Glad to hear you got it to work. I also think it's odd the component output couldn't output the on screen display.
  9. Might be a stupid question, but did you switch the TV to view the component input? (thought I'd ask, you never know.) Also, on my Denon it has a MONITOR single RCA jack for the soul purpose of the onscreen hookup to the TV. See if you have something similar. Also, my Denon won't display anything til I hit the menu button on the remote.
  10. Just thought of something. Saw a pair of Heresys in the KC Star Classified about a month ago. If I see any again I'll let you know.
  11. Can't help you with your speaker search, but I'd thought I'd say Hi to a fellow Kansas Citian.
  12. I've heard they are quite nice and actually have a bit more thump than KG-4's. Good find.
  13. Didn't STL make a 4.2 or 5.2 custom center? Do a search for his name.
  14. My old Alpine wouldn't play the green/blueish CDR's from Memorex and such, but would play TDK's dark blue discs fine. It died awhile back and I replaced it with a Panasonic unit (bleh) and it's the exact opposite. All the media I burned specifically so I could listen to it in the car is now useless except in my home. Frustrating to say the least.
  15. Want another easy fix for scratched CD's? Smear toothpaste on them and rinse lightly off. Air dry by swinging it around. CD will have cloudy haze from toothpaste, this is normal. Play and Enjoy!

    Radiohead Fans?

Yeah I "received" their new album the other day. Haven't had time to listen to it yet. I will also be buying it when it comes out if I like it. Have you heard the new Deftones cd? There's some samples of all the tracks floating around the net. It's just plain awesome. It's another must have.
  17. I live in Olathe, KS (SW of Kansas City) and we had several tornadoes hit the area. It was really weird, I was watching one of them as they tracked it just 15 miles north of us in the news chopper, and yet the sun was shining here at the exact same time. Really eerie. Only 1 death here in the city, but millions in damage. Whole neighborhoods got obliterated. Scary stuff. Glad to hear you made it out safe Chuckears.

The Denon sounded great for movies, but lacked in stereo music playback (I owned a 2802, and now own a HK AVR525, which I love). The 525 has many great features, including HDCD decoding and a great bass management system (the main reason I bought it). The 3803 does include composite and svideo to component conversion though... I recommend the HK. ---------------- I feel the exact same way. The Denon just doesn't have enough punch for my tastes in 2-channel listening.
  19. www.signalcable.com ^ Also makes great cables. Has a lot of good feedback on Audiogon and quite a few people rave about his cables. Check it out.

I understand a good amount about HT, like what 5.1 and blah blah blah, you get the picture. A couple questions before I start my reading, I need a receiver that supports DD, DTS, and most importantly, THX. And How does cabling work? I always see it sold in spools, do I have to wire it myself? Thanks for taking the time to reply! ---------------- Basically you'll need cables to connect your equipmment to your receiver (DVD player, VCR, digital cable box, CD player, etc....) These are usually connected via Analog cables AKA the old red and white cables (CD player, VCR), a digital cable or optical cable (either one) for audio and component video cables for the video (DVD player). Speakers need to be wired yourself. You'll have to decide how much wiring you'll need and what brand you'd like. There's the age old arguement of wether or not different brands of wire make a difference in a system, but I won't touch that one with a 10 foot pole. Pick whatever fits in your budget.

Dolby Digital and DTS are musts, but do you need Dobly Pro-Logic 2, THX, DTS-ES, etc...? Do you plan on adding a rear center for 6.1? SACD or DVD Audio? There's a wide variety of receivers out there. I'd recommend going back to the dealer you got your speakers from and demoing your speaker package with various brands of receivers and deciding which sounds best to you.
  22. Definitely going to be picking that one up. Thanks for the heads up.
  23. Check eBay's old auctions. I know a few have sold within the past few months. That should give you an idea.
  24. I found my Denon to be musical, but quite bass-less, so I added on the H/K in the sig. Made a world of difference.
