  1. I would really like to A/B an in-spec AA LaScala with a brand new LaScala II. I would like to know what I am missing, if anything. As Dave can attest, I am a bit OCD with stuff like this, so if I no longer have the ignorance of that comparison, it might drive me crazy. In my case, "ignorance is me not going crazy. Bliss: supreme happiness; utter joy or contentment (dictionary.com) Sane: free from mental derangement; having a sound, healthy mind (dictionary.com)
  2. 2- 5.1 HT's, 1- 6.4 shop HT, 1-2.1 computer, 1-5.1 computer, 1-2.0 woodshop, 1-2.0 swimming pool, 1-2.1 garape apt. That's 8 systems with 9 subs total. “When you can stop you don't want to, and when you want to stop, you can't...” ― Luke Davies, Candy Quotes
  3. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_-5nvuxy-j7d3V6aEc0WjZvMUk?usp=sharing All specs are still available in the wayback machine, but I thought it would be nice for those folks wanting to carry on with Heritage to have a place they could go without all the clicking and searching. I have 100's and 200's and was trying to remember the specs so I dug them up. BTW, the kpt-100's were retail $375 and the kpt-200's were $670 new. They are still great speakers IMO. KPT-200 - THX®-Approved, the KPT-200 is a 12-inch, two-way, cinema surround loudspeaker system that delivers extended bass response, controlled coverage and standard SMPTE/ISO 2696 X-curve de-emphasis. With its 15° down-firing angle, the KPT-200 accurately reproduces the extended dynamic range demanded by digital sound formats. It features a single, high-output, 12-inch woofer and 1.5-inch titanium compression driver coupled to a 100° x 100° Tractrix® Horn, as well as a high-frequency protection circuit. The enclosure is pre-drilled for industry standard mounting brackets. 4. What kind of HT do you put on the world's largest sailing yacht? How about an iMax: IMAX Private Theater For The Super Yacht Owner: The Ultimate Luxury Item There are other things you can get when you are Roberto Cavalli. Like a woman to spray the sand out of your crack:
  5. That sounds like a true success story. Pennies from Heaven, as they say. However... Unless you are the luckiest person ever, that barrel wasn't filled with change you picked up from the ground. It's probably spare change you throw in at the end of a day. That does add up pretty quickly. I donate my jar to Relay for Life each year. There have been times that my wife sorted quarters out of it to send with the kids for the laundry machine at college. I want my jar to be filled with dimes and quarters. It will have little economic impact on me, the people I buy from or Relay for Life.
  6. It irks me that people design public bathrooms with doors that swing into the bathroom. It is one of the stupidest things on this planet. To make matters worse, the people who do have them are the ones with the air dryers for your hands. It's stupid.
  7. He emailed me and I said they looked good. I emailed and asked how I could pay and heard nothing back. I think he's too busy to fool with this stuff.
  8. I think this has been a lively conversation. I don't think you can honestly expect no BS when you're here. I keep wanting to call BS, but so many of the people posting in this thread know so much more than me that I just sit back and enjoy the sparring instead. The relationship between objective facts and subjective opinions reminds me of politics. Neither can disprove the other. It's almost like the two things can't be in the same conversation or there cannot be a winner. It also reminds me of religion. Those are the two taboos in these here public forums (religion and politics). I will close with this musical piece by 50 cent
  9. The old saying that you will eat a peck of dirt before you die is certainly the case for me. My boys couldn't pass up a dirt pile, and when it rained it was even better:
  10. They make those big nets they use on piers in the ocean.
  11. I found out today quite by accident that Reese Cups are over $1 now. If I still had every penny I ever picked up in my entire life I couldn't afford a candy bar. Sometimes I buy something that costs 2 cents over the dollar and I have 98 cents to pocket and tote around all day long. I hate that! IMO, pennies are quite literally obsolete. It takes far more money to have cashiers count out pennies than the savings if there were no such coinage. I even think counting nickels rather than simply rounding to the nearest dime is cost prohibitive. When rounding, more often than not, the retailer wins out. As it stands, the retailer loses due to productivity costs, not to mention customer retention problems due to slow moving checkout lines, etc. There isn't much you can buy for less than a dime anyway, and if there is, they could be sold as 2 for's. Better yet, just raise the price to a dime. It's a win for the supply chain, and there are less insignificant coins to tote around in your pocket or in the cup holder of your car. I vote to get rid of all coins below a dime and round up and down. Rant over...
  12. Awesome. BTW, I draw on Sketchup all the time. It really didn't take long. The La Scalas were downloaded from the 3D warehouse. What it told me right away was that the drawing you did had the La Scalas bigger than scale. Your right speaker isn't than much further from the corner than your left one in the drawing.
  13. Will you be using the computer for gaming as well? There is no reason to have a high end graphics card in something you aren't using for gaming. Money would be better spent on something robust that is intended to run 24/7 and that has a great sound card. I would rather have some sort of network hard drive and a really good (tube?) DAC then an integrated amp.
  14. Based on your dimensions and seeing the pictures, I have completely changed my mind. Your original drawing was not to scale for the LaScalas. Here is what the room would actually look like. Notice how the left speaker is a bit away from the wall? Notice how the speakers now fill your house with sound? This is definitely my favorite setup: I don't like this as well: Here is your room facing the house. The whole house will enjoy the music. Love that!
  15. What good is it being crazy if you don't scare people?
  16. It's an OE replacement gearbox with a pitman arm from Flaming River. Manual steering, manual drum brakes, 0.7" anti-sway bar front only, 4 spd toploader, 289 4V, all season radials, lap type seat belts and an 8" Ford rearend. All in all a great car to drive. You can feel everything. It could use a stiffer sway on the front, a sway on the back, coilovers all around and a 4 link in the back. Disc brakes and rack n pinion steering wouldn't hurt either. Might as well throw in a Coyotee motor and air conditioning while I'm at it. I didn't drive the car there. I hauled the car there on a trailer. The race was in Columbus which is about 2 hrs away.
  17. I think it's made out of bonafide metal.
  18. Thanks for the ELI5 Roy. It made sense to me and I have leaned something new! I haven't fired my boat up this summer. I keep looking at it and looking at the damn yardwork and the damn yardwork wins every time. I did some fly fishing in the spring, but that was in the crik.
  19. I know, $12 is crazy cheap isn't it. https://www.uwo.ca/visarts/resources/Sign-Out-Guides/Digital SLR Cameras/Rebel_Xti_400D.pdf This will give you an opportunity to do some reading while you wait for the camera to arrive. The green square is where I set mine most of the time. I don't mess too much with advanced stuff unless I am wanting a real fast shutter speed for taking pictures of fast moving things like race cars. This isn't the exact camera you are getting, but yours will have the green square. PS: you hold the picture button in part way to make it auto focus.
  20. How does the vertically aligned tweeter horn affect off-axis listening? Was that done to reduce reflections on the walls in the corner?
  21. Now I'm sorry I asked. I found this: http://www.aast.edu/pheed/staffadminview/pdf_retreive.php?url=352_32115_EC434_2012_4__3_1_Chapter_03.pdf&stafftype=staffcourses
  22. If you know of somebody who recones the K33, please share it. I think I used the last 4ohm VC cone kits on the planet.
  23. That is better for sure. You can play with toe in to see what works best for you. Do you have some pictures you can share. From the drawing it's hard to know what is what.
  24. Some bondo, some elbow grease, and some paint and Duratex and those babies can look new. That is exactly what I would do, and exactly what I have done... See the link: You need to kill the mold with some bleach. Remove the drivers and see how bad they are. You might get lucky but if not you can replace them with K-33's, Crites' CW1526x's or Eminence Kappa 15C's. Some people use less than a watt to listen to these. They are 104 db at 1 meter with 1 watt, so that is really not quiet! If you crank them up, they can make your ears bleed.
