Is there anything special I need to do to make that change?

If it is the driver are they available to replace (I do see some on ebay) or do people get them repaired and if so is there a good source to fix? I do have a local vintage audio store that I likely could bring it to, but not sure if it would be a very specialized repair.

Overall the sounds is great on 95% of the recordings, so I'm not in a rush but I appreciate the help from this group.

    GS

unscrew gently   ,  lay the Mids driver down ,  tighten the 6 screws  of the top plate  until they are snug tight ,  the driver is composed of 2 halves  sandwiched between a rubber gasket  , a loose top cover can cause vibrations or an irritating sound  .

an Ohmmeter can pinpoint to a problem with the driver's diaphragm if the resistance reading is way off between both drivers , typically a good k-55 diaphragm should measure from 9 ish  to 10,5 Ohms , anything lower than 9 Ohms indicates a worn out diaphragm , the replacement is a breeze      15 minutes with a soldering iron and a flat screwdriver

You may have noticed my post about my Sevens. Good luck. It seems the powered speaker series weren’t ready for prime time. Many, many stories of the same experience. Get ready for a request for YOU to update the firmware. Didn’t work for me. Mine are going back.

you are confusing the Nines with the Sevens , once more there are thousands of positive sales of the Sevens and Nines , and you cannot put all the powered units made by klipsch  under the same boat , to say that the klipsch powered speakers were not ready for primetime is a false general statement

My experience (outside of this particular purchase) does not generally follow that.

good , so leave it at that , send the product back , and stop the negative comments , there are thousands of happy clients using the Sevens , you just happen to have fallen on a DOA , it happens , end of story

    Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a pair of vintage 1978 La Scala and overall they sound amazing.  I believe they are all original with k 55 v midrange driver and k 77 tweeter and Type AA crossover.

On certain recordings (maybe 1 out of 10)  I'm hearing distortion from what I assume is the mid-range tweeter.

take an Ohmmeter and check the resistance for both midrange drivers ....... what are the results  for the right and left speaker  , the mids are 16 Ohms

I have a set of 1973 La Scalas that are new to me.  I also have a set of Cornwall 1's.

Rebuilt the La Scala AA crossovers with a kit from Crites.  I didn't see much in the way of tutorials online for the AA, but I wired them exactly as they were with the originals and compared to reference images I could find online.  I replaced the K77 tweeter diaphragms, so they appear to be fully functioning.

    Cornwalls have Crites crossovers.

Here's my issue.  The La Scala sound terrible compared to the Cornwall.  The midrange sounds like someone singing down a tube and some distortion.  I've messed with placement and toe-in.  I also tried the same placement as where I had the Cornwalls.  The room I have is about 20x15.  I've never heard La Scalas before, but I can't imagine they are supposed to be this bad.

My assumption was that the La Scalas would sound very similar to the Cornwalls with less pronounced bass and a better midrange. Can anyone take any guesses as to what's going on?

where did you buy the diaphragms for the k-77 ,  what did you buy  , originals or aftermarkets ?

    -  swap the  Lascala tweeters and midrange drivers   into the Cornwall and see if the problem follows

    -  take an Ohmmeter,  check the resistance for the Lascala HF drivers/  K-55V midrange / K-77  tweeters  ,  the K-77 are 8 Ohms , the K-55V are 16 Ohms ,

    -   .get your crossovers checked by JEM

  6. I will echo Mark's comment  @wuzzzer , these 1975 Cornwall Decorators  represent more than money   , given the condition  1500-2k$ , 1 question , where are the klipsch badges , are they stapled in a plastic bag on the side of the speakers

    Good morning,

I am hoping someone can help me.  I have a pair of Rosewood Heritage Klipsch Speakers and need to know their value.  Model KBFR Serial 2E329.  My apartment flooded and the insurance company has no one qualified to help me.

are you sure that these speakers are KB FR  .........because F  refers to Fir , but  your speakers do not look like Fir plywood

Please go to the Historian section of the Forum , and open another thread  ,  @JRH is the klipsch Historian

Please post  good quality pictures of the veneer from the front and the top of the speakers ,   and we also need  pictures of the rear tags  .

After retiring last year we moved to a small apt which didn't allow me to keep my much loved Klipsch speakers. Now I find I can't do without that sound in my life. I've just purchased a pair of the Klipsch RP-600M speakers and am looking for an amp I can afford that will pair well with them.

the Yamaha A-S 301  would be a very good match , it's a Stereo amplifier with a quality preamp   . brand new 350$
