  1. Dean, You should go into business. Greg
  2. tsk tsk Gil, Don't you remember the AL K and Randy B. thread about use of components in Al's crossovers? You may very well receive hate mail if either reads this. Regards, Greg
  3. Are you one of those 16 year olds that drive around with their bass cranked so high in their car that their trunk vibrates and sounds like a fart?? Because those guys are awesome. Who needs trebble when you got lots of muddy bass right? ---------------- I think that this preponderance of bass thing is just personal taste and today's culture. By the time I was 13 I had heard alot of cheap speakers, but when I heard Cornwalls for the first time, I knew I had to own Klipsch someday. Someone needs to take him aside and show him what Klipsch can do. Then he wouldn't be so obsessed with this bass/specs thing. Regards, Greg
  4. Thanks Clu! You sure have a way with graphics programs, and wildlife. Regards, Greg
  5. Dean, Are these Dahlquist 10's? How do they sound compared to Klipsch? Do you like them? Just curious, Greg

Very nice type B Oak Klipschorns, Regards Jim ---------------- Yeah Jim, I had to do that so I could use it as my avatar. I liked the old forum where you could full size it with a click. I don't know how to resize it so it looks like a full size, maybe clueless could help she seems to be the photoshop wizard,. Wait she would probably just put a giraffe on it someplace. Regards, Greg
  7. I go to a local church thrift near where I work, and all of the LP's are10 cents each. You have to be persistent, but I have gotten mint RCA shaded dogs, Mercury Living Presence, etc. You cannot beat library sales and church thrifts for good vinyl at great prices. Regards, Greg
  8. Jim, I'll chime in, here is one of my 1986 OO Khorns. I bought them off of a forum member in August 2002. Regards, Greg

The AK-2 is my least fave netowrk....but that is just my opinion... ---------------- Trey, Could you send me the schematic as well. I would like to try it on my '86 Khorns Thanks, Greg

  11. Greetings Gentlemen, I have a Sherwood S-2200 AM/FM Stereo tube tuner that is excellent, much better than my HK AVR receiver. I usually listen in the evenings to our local NPR station from Purdue University. It makes great background music. The other local stations are all compressed and sound like crap in comparison. Regards, Greg
  12. Greetings Gentlemen, I can see Rob45 posting about his 1954 Khorn for sale, but must we be bombarded with multiple post containing the same photos? Regards, Greg
  13. There are people who really take this ghost business seriously. Our local historical museum is an old mansion, about 1850's vintage and supposedly haunted, and there was a group of ghost hunters spent the night there. They had local news coverage and everything. It must have been a slow night Greg
  14. Lynn, You did a fine job on the refinish, those poor neglected Khorns are now in a loving home. I'm sure they are purring like kittens Regards, Greg
  15. Craig, I know what you mean! There is some difference between TFK and the EH 12ax7's, but they are not crap, and I am too cheap to pay $50 per NOS TFK, when I can get EH for $8 each. I have not tried them in the Scott 299B, Ryan said "Scott places all four 12AX7 heaters in series, for a total current draw of 150 mA. I have found that the new EH 12AX7's draw more than 150 mA of heater current, so I avoid them" so the Scott still has the TFK ribbed plates that came with it. I may still send the Scott to you sometime for a checkup. Regards, Greg
  16. Tony, I have noticed the same thing with the Sovtek/EH tubes, they are very good and for the price the are a no brainer! In my Fisher 800C, which came with TFK 12ax7's and Westinghouse 7591A's, the Electro-Harmonix 12AX7's and 7591A's do a very good job,and lack nothing. I paid $8 and $16 each respectively, I saved quite a few bucks by buying them. I have no regrets. Regards, Greg
  17. Ken, What kid didn't like Willy Wonka as a child! I will be there as I only live 50 miles from Indy, and would like to visit Hope someday and tour the factory. Thanks Klipsch, Greg
  18. Thanks Tom and Allan I just finished installing mine this weekend. I touched up the edges with a jewelers file and painted the raised portion with gold leaf paint, they look great. Thanks again for your hard work and generosity Reagards, Greg
  19. Greetings Gentlemen, I use a homemade concoction consisting of: 1 gallon distilled water 1 pint 91% isopropyl alcohol 30 drops Kodak PhotoFlo Put solution into new spray bottle, spray LP while flat on clean towel, scrub with natural bristle brush (like a nail cleaning brush) repeat for other side. Rinse in sink with tepid water, lay on more clean towels, dry thoroughly with towels, finish with air dry, put into new LP sleeves. Cost about $2 gallon and some time, but it does a good job. Regards, Greg
  20. skonopa, I live about 30 miles from Frankfort, IN. Where are you from originally? Regards, Greg

What are these guys doing putting thermo meters on them side by side and measuring ? All tube amps run hot !! This is normal and doesn't hurt a thing with or without a case." My Fisher can run for hours and the output transformers are cool enough that you can hold your hand on them indefinitely, the power transformer can be touched for 5-10 seconds before you have to remove your hand, and that is in an case. You cannot do that with a Scott 299B. "Fisher makes some nice integrated amp also I like there earlier model with tube rectification rather then SS." My Fisher has a more tube-like sound, and better bass than my Scott, and it is SS rectified. The Scott is smooth and accurate, much like a good SS, but the Fisher is warmer, less fatigueing, dead quiet when there is no source, and has more gain in the phono stage than the Scott. If there is any crosstalk etc, because of everything being integrated, it is not apparent on my Khorns. "I like the Scott integrated look way better then anything fisher ever put out I also think any amp Scott, Fisher or whatever with a tuner looks like a radio !!" Cosmetics are a personal preference, much like audio and music. ---------------- Regards, Greg

The more you stuff into a component the more trade offs are made." Yes but the power and output transformers are much larger and the circuit is designed to handle it. The Fisher 800C tuner is better than my Sherwood S-2200 AM/FM tube stereo tuner in reception and sound quality. "Look at it like this most people believe that the best combo is preamp with a pair of mono blocks for the best and purest sound with no channel cross talk and each amp has a dedicated Power supply. Then you have preamp and stereo amp the channels share a common Power supply and chassis. Next step is integrated amp and finally a receiver ! Pretty low on the chain." All things considered I believe that the sound of the component is soley dependant on the circuit design and implementation "Now lets look at your end cost ! You will no longer be able to send your new purchase to me and almost all the other techs I know of ! it takes specialized gear and knowledge to align and tune a FM section so I do not work on Receivers. This does take a specialist ! The best Fisher Tech I know is Paul from Bizzy Bee in Chicago Area. Great guy but you will soon have $800 to $1000 tied up in your new Fisher or Scott !" I paid $200 for my Fisher 800C and put another $50 in caps and resistors, did the cosmetics myself. As far as tuner alignment my Fisher has probably not had the the tuner aligned in it's life! 101.3 FM comes in at 101.5, after 40 years i'd say that was pretty good. ---------------- Regards, Greg
  23. Greetings Jonathan, Welcome to the forum. What Klipsch model are you looking for? We forum members do a lot of buying/selling here so just ask and I'm sure someone will chime in. Regards, Greg
  24. I only paid $175 for my KG 1.5's brand new at Ovation AV (authorized dealer) in early 1998. I'd offer him $100. Regards, Greg
