  1. The ART IS your soundcard in this instance. Go into the preferences menu (Ctrl-P) and look at the settings under the audio I/O tab. Make sure the record in stereo box is checked. Bruce
  2. wood filler would work fine, then lightly sand smooth. Or just put some wood glue in the holes. You don't need to suffer some great angst over it.
  3. I feel bad I had to look up which bill that "Ben" decorates, lol. Congratulations on the Cornwalls. I think I would just wait until you do the crossovers before thinking about swapping the tweeters. They may clear up a lot with the cap upgrades. Just enjoy for a while. Bruce
  4. I kinda like the demo unit with the tweeter on a hinge...
  5. Now I understand. They sent some graph paper to some guy over in Amsterdam, and let him draw the graphs with a sharpie after he did up some hash. Those twitches will get you every time. [*-)]The real proof is in the hearing, and everyone likes what they hear. That's the good part! Bruce
  6. I am the fourth owner for mine, and have a list of the parts and schematic for it. I have thought of putting in grid chokes, but don't want to spend the money. Since I didn't build mine, I put up with the logos on the ends, but it also means all the connections are on the back side. I LOVE the way they sound with my LaScalas. Bruce
  7. PC power supplies have a connection to the motherboard, that is a'power good' signal (part of the 20 pin connector). Voltage isn't supplied to the board until the PS is stabilized. They get hard to test outside of a case. What kind of PS is it? If it has a standard 20 pin connection, anything rated the same or higher should work. If it has a P4 processor in it, it will also have a square 4 pin molex power connector that also goes to the MB. Everything else should be the flat 4 pin molex connectors with perhaps the small flat one for floppy drives. The supplies have fuses in them, but testing a PS is awful. You can get a new one for $30 that is pretty much the standard physical size. If you have one handy, you clan plug it in and try it without removing the old one. My son's pc died during a storm, and all it was for him was a PS. If, as SF says, it is one of the smaller modular models, enjoy. btw, I still use my 11 year old pc every day. It just keeps chugging along, although it IS a dual cpu. It all depends on what you use it for. Bruce
  8. And it has been mostly talk, for sure.It will still be awhile before I really get moving on this, but inertia will take over after a bit. [:|] So far I have a pair of K-33s for the MWMs, these mid cabinets with the EVM-12L and the two JBL horns. I'll have to start cutting wood one of these days. I'll still need 2" drivers and crossovers, and some way to pretty the whole thing up. You are right that it isn't about loud, but how clean and smooth it is. I'm rarely listening over 95db, and then not for very long.
  9. My son's Mesa Boogie Mark III (I think that's it) has an EVM-12L exactly like the ones I have. Mesa didn't introduce those until the mid '80s if I remember correctly. One of the Mark III series in the late '90s has the same EV, not the re-release version.
  10. Maybe a Cornwall or Heresy... they're easy. [] I rarely use the program I did that with (Caligari trueSpace, now owned by Microsoft and available free). I have to re-learn it every time I try to use it. I would love to have the time to do a KHorn, maybe wait a while on the Jubilee, since it is newer and I don't have accurate measurements for all the dimensions. The H/K is working wonderfully, btw. I have two... my younger son is using one of them Bruce Hey Blindman, are those Moondogs in your avatar? Mine have the logo on the ends, and it thew me a bit seeing them that way.
  11. Here's one of the EV woofers. A 16 lb. magnet! The builder had them held in place with screws [*-)] Obvious that JC didn't build them! Not sure when these were made, but they don't look like the newer EVM-12L woofers.
  12. OK, not so far, really, but JC made an offer I couldn't refuse. Shown is a pair of JBL 2365A horns [ 2 inch throats, 60 x 40 ] We figure these would mate well with a Klipsch K69 or P.Audio BMD750. They are a smidge over 31 inches square. And they fit nicely on the EV midbass horns, each with an EVM-12L woofer. Those cabs are a little beat up, but if they work, I could build some new ones of clean them up. They were used in a p.a. setup. We thought these would go very well with some MWM bottoms. I plan on building singles for each side. The volume I don't need, and I only lose maybe 3db by not having two on a side. Bruce
  13. I've only done the LaScala. It actually has one piece missing, and I have never gotten around to adding it. [:$] I'll try to get it done. The piece missing is a three inch piece across the back, which would support the top. I've got a couple others with different wood grains and different angles, too. I had saves some actual veneer pics from one of the suppliers websites, and mapped them onto the drawings. Here's one in red oak, already 1024 x 768 Bruce
  14. Sure you will. I have made little changes that turned out to make big improvements. Still, like you, I am really happy with how my current system is sounding. Any more is just icing on the cake. It's nice to turn on the system, put on some tunes and just get lost in the music. Bruce
  15. My crossovers are pretty simple... the DHA2, designed by forum member John Albright. Dean gathered all the parts together for me and shipped them to me. I listen at fairly low levels, so these have worked out great for me. If you listen at higher levels with more high powered amps, something like the ALK extreme slopes may be better. I don't even remember what they cost. I also didn't put in the light bulb for tweeter protection. Type DHA2.pdf
  16. I picked up my LaScalas during a trip to visit my mom in Wisconsin. Got back home and was by myself, so I backed the Blazer up to the front door as close as I could get. put a piece of particle board from the Blazer to the front dor and put a blanket down. I slid the LS into my living room and moved them end over end until I could wiggle them in place.Got them hooked up and ... THIS IS IT! The sound! I've rearranged a couple of times, but am happy with the purchase. Built new crossovers, put in some of Bob's tweeters, switched to some outboard tweeters, but these things are GREAT! They image very well and sound sooooo good. Even though I won't get rid of them, I am planning on some MWM bass cabs and components to go on top. It is a slow process, since my funds are extremely limited. Bruce
  17. I've been pretty satisfied with the Tube Depot, located in Memphis. http://www.tubedepot.com/
  18. It's kinda funny, but my email from BB that say it is back ordered has a link to check the status. That page tells me the order is being filled and should be 1-2 days.
  19. Matt, Which Tangents do you have? If you find some Tangent 400 cheap, you should grab them, as they have the same parts (totally the same, incl. crossovers) as the Heresy II. A friend of mine picked up a pair fairly cheap. I'm thinking of build a set of cabinets to move my HII parts into. Lower bass... much better! Plus it gets the drivers up more to ear level. Bruce
  20. I just got an email that says mine is backordered 1 to 2 weeks....[:^)] We'll see if I still get it. Bruce
  21. 18mm is only a fraction over .7 inches, where the U.S. made models were originally .75. The newer LaScala II uses 1 inch MDF. As John indicated, the braces in the mouth should help a lot. (they would probably be more effective if they weren't centered top to bottom, where you might get a null in the vibration, but not nearly as aesthetically pleasing) Bruce
  22. I've been one of those blessed with not having to work hard at keeping my weight down. I'm 5' 8" and 153lbs. It fluctuates up or down about 4 lbs. I would really like to be between 145-150. Due to the stress while my wife was sick, I got to 145, and it actually felt really good for me. Once I hit 45 years of age, I noticed I could gain too easily, but over the past three years, I've stopped drinking sodas (not completely, but seldom), cut out most sugar, and have a lot higher fluid intake each day, mostly green tea. I put no sugar in my coffee or tea- avoid aspartame like it's the plague. I'll be 60 in June, and am trying to get more excercise in. My GF is 48 and started jogging again every morning, plus not eating a heavy meal in the evening. She is only 4' 11", so any weight shows really quickly. It's hard to be diligent about it. All I can say is congratulations for what you've accomplished and don't give up. Bruce
  23. Sony has done a great job - keeping Sound Forge a top contender. Perhaps THE ONLY contender. It would be great at any price. They have a smaller, home version for about $70, but the big one runs $300. Bruce
