  1. I haven't bought 6 CDs in the last two years. I can't get through all the CDs I already have. I have a coworker who have may 500+ CDs. While he listens to new ones all the time, he also goes through ALL of them alphabetically each year. Then again, he IS a librarian... [*-)] I go a couple of days and don't even turn on any of my gear... then I put on something to listen nd fall asleep. BUT that may be my age... Truth be told, I can still sit and enjoy music on a boom box. If that is what is playing the music, I'm not gonna worry about it. Bruce
  2. Just wait until it DOES turn sunny. You will want the cooler, rainy weather then.
  3. Y'all are so kind. TOO kind, maybe. Hmmmm, probably not supposed to tell, but Kharna (she uses Carna in China... but full name is Encarnacion) is 48. We are good for each other! For me... maybe it was because I participated in "better living through chemistry" when I was younger. [:#] Tom, you are looking great too. Bruce
  4. I stay away from balut...I'll be 60 in June...[:^)] Feel like I'm just getting started in life, too.
  5. That's a thought! I WISH I was that young. She is actually 12 years younger, but probably older than you would think. []
  6. Too funny, Tim. Well, here is WHO I crossed the ocean for... my GF Kharna. I can almost guarantee you couldn't guess close to her age. Bruce
  7. Or ithey just reveal how poorly recorded the source material is... Or the front end equipment stinks... Or... I certainly don't get fatigued when listening to my Klipsch.
  8. THAT makes me wish I had some money! I would love an 8B.
  9. Just to be sure, use some J-B Weld... it will definitely handle the heat. Bruce
  10. The horn will need to be mounted to the baffle with the Audax. You won't have any valid numbers just holding it up to the cabinet.
  11. Nope and stay the heck away from the CE brand in the Dynaco Mark III they just can not handle the voltage spike at turn on. The one I'm referring to is custom made in Germany and should live a better life in the Mark III's. That's why I'm asking... Again the ST-70 is a different beast it has a much lower peak and operating voltage... 475 volts or so are start up and 434 volts once warmed up. I've seen Mark III's hit 570V and then 485 to 500V after warm up. It all depends on wall voltage.. I know the Mark III is different... but a better cap in the ST-70 would be good, too. When you say Kevin, do you mean Kevin Deal? Where can I get the German cap? Thanks I've had at least a dozen or more of the CE cans fail after 6 months in Mark III's even with thermistors (in rush current limiters) that completely stop the cold turn on spike in place.... CE will replace them but its still a Hassle... The product should not even be rated at 525V because it absolutely can not even handle 500V... I'd say 475V is more what it can deal with reliably.. I'm not 100% sure about this German cap in the long run but from what I have learned about its construction method and feedback from Kevin and a few others no problems so far. Even the originals right from Dynaco were failure prone... I personally use a completely different setup but in this situation the guy wants to keep them as close to stock electrically and visually so.....this is his best option with any hope of long term reliability.
  12. Ben, Have a look at my post on page two. It sounds to me like your CD was like my first one, with the track order reversed. Maybe I misunderstand your comments. I can't wait to hear more from Dave, and to read the comments of George Mims. Bruce
  13. What I used wasn't a latex, for sure. If I had any good pics, I would show you. [] I'm getting ready to build a new front end board for the ST-70, so it will be interesting. Bruce
  14. You can get spray cans of chem-wash. Works pretty well... just be careful of the plastics, as they can turn some clear pieces white or foggy.
  15. If you only had a couple of songs to do, you can just edit the individual pops. After a while you get the hang of it, but it is really tedious. I would only do that with some radical clicks and pops. The noise/click/pop reduction filters are usually adjustable, so you can try what works best and still leaves the sound you want to keep. I almost hate audacity. Most packages are similar in operation. You record the track into the editor and then play with it. How easily you can do that also comes down to how easily you can repeat the process for each track you record.
  16. We use a vac made for computers, but a lot of times, the stuff just sticks too well. Even though we have a smoke free environment, it just doesn't get the job done. I usually pull out the air compressor, and roll everything outside. We don't even bother with a water trap, but have never had any trouble getting the dust out of pc chassis. The air will get dust out that a vacuum just won't touch. You won't want to leave the concrete dust on them for long, as the reaction with high humidity probably won't be very good for the metals. Bruce
  17. The output trannies on my ST-70 were in pretty good shape, but I lightly sanded them and then used some semi-gloss high temp stove paint... I think came from ACE Hardware. I didn't want to remove them from the chassis... just removed the bolts and lifted them a little, so I could place paper under them and protect the rest of the amp. They ame out pretty nice.
  18. We have free concerts in Chattanooga, TN, through the summer months. Friday nights, out of doors. Not the best of venues, but a good time is had by all. Caught the Flecktones there twice, Maura O'Connell, Doc Watson, and many more over the years. This years lineup is scheduled, but I don't know any of them... which makes for great fun http://downtownchattanooga.org/nightfall
  19. I know you will be going back to work, but inquiring minds want to know... Any updates on the two tracks you linked us to? and how was the party? [] Bruce
  20. Craig, Is that the same quad cap that Roy Mottram sells on his site? If so, he has them for $36. It is listed on the ST-70 pages... scroll down a bit. Bruce
  21. OK, Dave, you can't go to sleep until you post about your two test files. Or you have to start a new thread. []
  22. My wife read the books (she was a book reviewer and copy editor for a couple of magazines before she pased away). She said the writing got better as each book came out, and they got much darker. She like them a lot, notwihstanding all the hoopla by Christain conservatives. I haven't read the books or seen the movies, and am a little afraid to get started on them. Afraid taht I my get hooked and not stop until I've read them all/seen them all. I'm definitely more of a Tolkien fan, knowing where he was coming from religiously and morally. Bruce
  23. I have a pair of Heresy IIs, with the original crossovers. They are in my bedroom, the largest room in my house, and powered with an H/K430. Bass is great! Keep telling myself to hook up my 2A3 amps which drive my LaScalas, but am too lazy. The H/K is barely up to get room iflling volume. FWIW, I would consider the original Heresy to be a bit forward in the mids, probably due to the larger driver (same as the Khorn and LS). To my ears, the HII is more balanced. I imagine the HIII is even more so, with even better bass. Bruce
  24. No need to go away, Michael. The flattest response includes that small filter at the input of the power amp when using the bass mod.
