  1. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/5154/35424.aspx#35424 Still never built any, but I now have a pair of LS and a pair of Hereises. And all the background info was wrong.
  2. Here's what you could do... Open up the doghouse into the top section of the LS. Pull the K400/401 and tweeter out. Enclose the back and make a baffle for the front that has the ports to make the bass bin mod. Turn it upside down and put the 510 horn on top. More bass and now a two way. How cool is that? And, it would be hard to safely remove the regular baffle in the LS. I believe there ar ring nails around the perimeter holding it in place
  3. Maron says they drop like a rock up high.
  4. The MOTU 896HD is a great piece of gear, and their converters have a great reputation. What software are you using? We are using Cubase at the college where I work (Music Dept. composition class). If I were going to go into the recording business, I would be looking for some backers (read money!) and try to go all out. Since a 24 track Studer would cost way more than the RADAR system, I don't think it is unreasonable at all. The Sonoma system pushes $100K, but it's using the DSD technology, and should be as transparent as it gets for now. A good friend of mine usually records at a studio in SanDiego that is using a high end Pro Tools rig, and his tracks come out incredibly clean and real sounding. Imaging on his mixes are superb. I'm sitting here with a single 20 bit ADAT, and I can't get off my butt to record anything. It's hard to perform and engineer at the same time, but it is more the lack of initiative... [*-)] Bruce
  5. I had read about the DSD multitrack recorders, and lost the info. Here is a link to one of the few companies producing multitracks using the Direct Stream Digital, at 2.8Mhz. The pricing is appropriately higher. http://www.superaudiocenter.com/Products.htm Even Mallette would love the transparency of these. []
  6. Jay,Not much that would fit inside the cabinet. I think a couple have put the 511B Altec horn on the top of a Cornwall cabinet with good results. Just not as pleasant to look at. Bob Crites has made his CornScala, which is the equivalent to a Cornwall bass bin and LaScala K400 mid horn and his CT125 tweeter. That seems to be a nice combo, but it's still 'outside the box' so to speak. The Corn's depth is part of the problem. You can't fit the larger horns in the cab due to the depth (front to back). Bruce
  7. I certainly understand that. And the price is a litle over your $200 mark....[:^)]
  8. I find the bass on mine to be really, really good, too. Not lacking in the least, and that is using SS gear or tube gear.I absolutely love the walnut. The two pairs of JBLs in my house are walnut, and they are still gorgeous in appearance. Bruce
  9. Dee, I think the 24 track with 192Khz is around $19K. Not for the faint of heart, or just to play. You would be going into business with this kind of gear. But you would still need the main console, studio space, and all the outboard gear, too. Microphones, etc. Then you need a business plan that is viable. You need a manager for the business, and clients.
  10. I've wanted to post about this gear for a while, as it isn't heard of much by the general public. Twenty-four tracks of 24 bit/192Khz recording... and up. Much of what you might hear on the radio has been recorded on RADAR systems. Their list of users is incredible. Of course, you might think it all sounds bad, but I think that isn't the fault of the gear. Ahhhhh, the price matches the technology, too. A view of the back looks like most PCs, except for all the custom electronics stuffed into the case. http://www.izcorp.com/radar-v-snyquist.php Really impressive stuff. Under the community tab, you can see lots of the groups who have used this equipment for their albums. Bruce
  11. I still use a couple of the RA-100 amps. Really pretty decent for the money. Absolutely no ICs in them, all discreet devices, unless they're hiding somewhere in the chassis. You can pick them up used really inexpensively.Bruce
  12. Glenn, that is awesome! I know you had posted earlier, and I have wondered about your progress. It is great what all of you guys have been doing.I am only at 155 lbs., but need to exercise and tone up a lot. I was at 145 when I was in the Philippines a year ago, because of all the walking I did and all of the fesh food I ate while there. Our processed food in the US is hurting us all big time. This thread is a great encouragement to me, and I seriously mean that. Bruce
  13. That's why I wanted to replace the AL crossovers in my LaScalas. [] Dean, how close are yours to John Albright's, like the ones I put in my LS? Bruce
  14. I just started with a good thing... [] What have you done with your Cornies? You know - you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
  15. Uh, what value would the 10W resistor be?
  16. I think that would be "NICE!" as in a real work of art, beautiful construction.
  17. Out close to where they dropped off Jimmy Hoffa... a rather wet area with larger reptiles....
  18. Tim, The LS woofer to mid driver is crossed at 400Hz, so a 50Hz bottom end driver is probably going to be a problem, unless the crossover is changed to cross higher than the 500Hz. Bruce
  19. Ditto on the realism! Love my LaScalas. Seems to be a "right" combination with my BBX/Moondogs. My CDs even have plenty of bass. Bruce
  20. So this means you made up four boards, two for the bass bins and two for the tweets? This means you are biwired I guess. Bruce
  21. Very nicely done, Dean. Are those done from the schematic that was posted as a pdf? Are you going to try Mark's upgraded D-45? Bruce
  22. Glenn, This is a horrible thing, made all the more so by being someone you know. My prayers are with you and you whole neighborhood. Bruce
  23. That almost made me laugh, but that notion is pretty sad. It happens everywhere.
