  1. Don, The KHorn, when snugged into the corner properly, has the front facing the room at a 45 degree angle. To be on axis with the mid and tweeter, you will be very close to them on the short wall. Some have made false corners for them to fit into, which can then be turned out a bit. A search on false corners should yield a lot of info on the subject. Still, try 'em out and see what you like. They must be tight into the corners, though, or the bass won't work right. The Belles you can angle in with no problem, and will make great rear channel speakers. Bruce
  2. Luther, What model are the JBLs? Are those the L26 you redid? They look nice with the SAE equipment. My younger son has some L46 at school, with an H/K 430. It easily bests what most college kids have in their dorm rooms. Bruce
  3. Depending on WHAT speaker you are talking about, some are easier than others to check. Many of the Klipsch Heritage models have barrier strips with screws, on the crossover board. Those connections, even when tight, can become tarnished and corroded. No sound coming out of a particular driver, can sometimes be fixed by loosening all those connections and tightening them back down. The capacitors in the crossovers will deteorate over time. If they are hitting 20 years, they probably need to be replaced (fairly cheap), and will greatly affect the sound and performance. You can stuff a towel into the mid horn and tweeter, to block off the sound, to tell if they are working. Compression driver diaphragms, if driven too hard over long periods of time can become hard... on a tweeter you will lose more highs. All connections should be checked.
  4. If JBL says thay don't have them, that may be it... but they should at least tell you what all the specs are on it. They will have a tech/service manual for it somewhere. Good luck. Are you sure that is what you need for it?
  5. Only because people here will hate you for getting a pair of KHorns and Belles as your first Klipsch products. [:#] Most here are going to say you should try the Khorns on the long wall, but only you can decide for sure. Welcome to the madness. We sometimes pick on each other, we argue, always offer our opinions... but most of all, we'll really try to help. Bruce
  6. They own JBL and list some of the other parts for your sub on their support site. Just trying to help. Perhaps they could at leas tell you what the connections are, ratings of the windings, etc.
  7. Have you tried emailing parts@harman.com?
  8. I thought the upgrade re-uses the mid horn. Perhaps only because of the way it is shaped to fit around the top of the woofer. I've said this before, but I would do the upgrade if I had the serial numbers off of mine. Someone kindly removed them from the back of the cabinets. I know they are genuine Klipsch, because of the inspection stickers inside, but without the sn, no upgrade is available. Bruce
  9. I'm not into spending around $3 a minute on a phone call. Russia uses 900/1800Mhz. One of my AT&Tphones is a dual band, but operates at 850/1900Mhz. I would be toast in Russia if I only carried it. That is why I bought my on quad band. (at the time of my first trip I was still using Verizon...) While in CHina, my phone also showed service on my quad band, but it would not work (not with my AT&T sim card). There are other companies in the US using GSM, found here (it's a long list): http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml\ But, they all use 850/1900Mhz, not what is used in Europe.
  10. When I went to the Philippines last Feb., and to China in Oct., I used my unlocked GSM phone (a sony ericsson quad band). I knew when I purchased it that I would be able to use it anywhere in the world. I bought prepaid sim cards for a system where I would be located. For the Philippines, it was nice because ALL incoming calls were free. I mostly did text messaging, but it was nice to know I could call if I needed to. I bought the card while still in the states. Slipped it into the phone while sitting in the airport in Detroit, so when I powered up in Manila, I had a local number. I had already powered it up here, so I could pass the number on to my family here and to my girlfriend there. Very cool. Here's a link to GSM coverage in Russia (opens in a new window): http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_ru.shtml You can get an inexpensive gsm phone from a lot of places (Tiger Direct sells them...). If you already use one, you need to see if it uses the correct frequencies, and if you can put in a third party sim card. If they tell you they can't because it is locked, a local store may unlock it for you. You can get unlock codes online, but may void your warranty if you use them. Roaming while overseas usually runs around $3 a minute, depending on where you are. Your friend in Moscow could tell you which vendor to get a card from (like the same company he uses, to make it easier). He could probably get you a sim card and mail it to you, as they are about the size of an SD card. Bruce
  11. It is there mostly to allow the driver to be screwed on tight.
  12. He was the kind of actor you never noticed until he was gone. Suzanne Pleshette, that' s another one gone.
  13. Very cool, Trey! I was in China in October and really enjoyed it. Got to meet a lot of my girlfriend's students. Bruce
  14. Except for those of us who still act like little kids... [:|]
  15. Gary, Did you lock you PM capability? I tried to send a message, but noticed it is locked... then mine shows the same little icon. Maybe none of the PMs are working. Bruce
  16. Marshall, The Klipsch specs on the Tangent 400 say it has a K-24 with a poly cone, which isn't correct. It is a K-24, but the same as the woofer in an HII. If I had serial numbers on my HIIs, I would get the HIII upgrade and take the old parts and make a set of Tangents, with real wood. I would have to find the horn for the mid (or make my own)
  17. Eve Anna Manley runs the company. Was married to David Manley, who split and left the company. Her dad owned Ampeg. She's only 39 or so. They also make on of those amps with 10 KT90s. 250/500 watts. The price goes up though. We had a forum member on here for a while who had one of thier EL84 amps. Nice.
  18. Welcome aboard! The KHorn MUST be placed tight into the corners for the bass to work correctly. It is true that some have them pulled out and are happy with them, but the design calls for them to be snug in the corners. This means that the mid horn and tweeter will be firing at a 45 degree angle back into the room, the left and right crossing about 9 feet from your front wall. Hmmm, it will certainly work, but that will depend on your listening habits, room layout (furniture, etc.). The long wall might be too far apart. Some of the folks here have built false corners, so they can rotate the speakers a little to suit the environment a little more. I would say that you should first just put them on the short wall and enjoy for a while. The tweaking comes later... Wish there were more folks in the northern part of the state... [:^)]
  19. I could have retired a long time ago...
  20. Rarely given enough credit, former Kingston Trio member John Stewart passed away. I learned how to play guitar by listening to their records. He was a wonderful songwriter and entertainer. http://www.10news.com/news/15098435/detail.html
  21. jc, if you do that with the reflector, you only have about a 1.75 inch opening on the turn. It might still work out ok. Dennis had orginally posted this when he worked out the mod for the ls: "The taper rate of a LaScala is 100hz,The mouth area is good for 125hz. Below this it is a big woofer in a small sealed box." This makes me think that, in some respects, you can't think of it as a horn below a certain frequency. Gorgeous little cabinets, though. btw, the BBX is great. Been enjoying it a lot, once I replaced the microphonic 6299. Bruce

    Will it take off?

    hmmmmm... I think that...ummm.... never mind. [8-)]
  23. Marvel

    Will it take off?

I see how it is a trick question, really. The thrust provided by the engine (either jet or prop) will cause the plane to move forward, regardless of the conveyor. It will then get lift as the air flows over the wings and take off. jb, perhaps a little humble pie will be served...[:#]
  24. Marvel

    Will it take off?

I never said I was smart. I'm on a lot of lists, thanks. But I am getting a better grasp of the situation. The plane will move forward with or without the conveyor belt. I'll change my answer. If a woman can change her mind, I should be able too as well. []
