  1. Hmm, I think he is one person I didn't talk to. Bummer. Oh well, I'm fairly certain that I got a good deal on my setup.
  2. I don't remember my AVR having the 'small' setting, just crossover points...Is this normal with Onkyo or am I missing a setting in there somewhere?
  3. Eh, I've read tons of reviews on all sorts of different brands. I suppose it's always that people love what they buy (for the most part), and those are 2 of the highest selling brands...
  4. P.S. I hope you kept all the boxes for shipping back to the states. Those movers can be rough on your things. I just PCSd from England and dang...that's all I gotta say...I wanted to punch those guys before they were done...
  5. That looks really nice. I went with the 82 IIs myself. To be honest, I never really even looked at the RF-7s as they were a bit out of my price range. I suppose I could have skimped on the rest of the surrounds, but between those and the RC-64, going that route was just a bit too spendy. Shooooot, I never even expected to spend as much as I did on a speaker system...I gotta say tho, I really have no regrets with what I went with. I really can't hate on the Marines, ya'll do a job that I'm not willing to do. Shoot, I never thought I'd ever join any branch of the military...
  6. A little too many dudes in here to be 'turning on' each other. I didn't know this was that kinda party, I would have brought my chaps =^P
  7. I think he meant LPF (low pass filter) instead of LFE...
  8. Any reason why these are the only 2 brands you are considering? I've heard nothing but good things about Denon and Onkyo as well.
  9. If you were in the Air Force, you'd live in a bigger house =^P ha ha, j/k! I'm glad you are enjoying your system, I know I love my new setup as well =^)
  10. ^^^The biggest reason is because I have some bills to pay off before making another big purchase. Also, by that time I'm hoping that I should be able to find a deal or two on the items that are just about to come out next month.
  11. Fair enough. Might check it out next time I'm ready to make a purchase =^)
  12. I gotcha. In other forums I've been on it's usually the case of upgrading the forum software to defeat the influx of spammers.
  13. You could always go with a PS3 for your DVD/bluray player as it has a whole slew of streaming options.
  14. Like you already posted, you should be able to find some pretty good deals right now on last years models as the new stuff is about to come out. I have not heard much good about LG, so I personally stay away from them. The panasonic ST30 line or the Samsung 6500 line is probably what you are going to be looking for as far as those features. With the sizes you are looking at, I don't think you'll be able to find the features you want and not pay over $1200-$1500 unless you really shop around...I know one of these guys recently went into a best buy and bought a floor model for a significant discount, so you may want to look into doing something like that...Then again, I haven't really shopped these sizes, so I could be totally wrong on the prices...
  15. Has this forum always had problems with spammers or is this a new thing?
  16. My next house will have a dedicated theatre room as well (hopefully). I'm not quite a pro like a lot of these guys, but I love my reference setup. If I had the money and the room, I'd probably go for the THX stuff as I've heard good things about that line.
  17. ^^^That seems pretty lame...People gotta do what they gotta do and if they are industrious enough to buy and re-sell stuff like this, more power to them. At the OP, have you looked them up to see how much they are worth?
  18. ^^^That makes sense, but I don't really buy stuff that often. This is only the second surround system I've bought in my life and I'm 32. Then again, this is the first time I've really been able to afford to get a little crazy with what I bought too...
  19. When it comes to electronics I just don't buy used. Just a personal preference. I'm glad you are finding what you want tho. Good luck on building your system =^)
  20. Well, he stated that she was there with a new boyfriend, and unless all parties involved are swingers...
  21. Bi-amping doesn't really mean 2 amps. It means taking the back 2 channels and using them to power the front speakers as well as the front 2 channels. The purpose of this is so you can take the little binding post off of the speakers and power the tweeters and subs in the fronts separately. From what I've read on people's reviews, the fronts sound a little better by doing this. Since you are only going to have a 5.1 system, you will have the option of doing this with your AVR. The 818 has the MultEQ XT32, not the MultiEQ 2EQ, not sure where you read that. I know the basic idea of Audyssey, I just wasn't sure the benefit of the XT32, but it looks like it should be more accurate. As far as the pricing you posted, I found the cheapest price on my setup from audioholics, but I emailed them. Maybe I should have called all of these to see if the quote would have been cheaper...For that last link you posted...hrmm...might check out the BBB to see if they are listed and if they have any reviews...
  22. As far as I know, if you are using a separate amp, you wouldn't be using the one in the 818. You may be able to use both at the same time, but you wouldn't want to plug them into the same speakers. I'm not sure if the 818 has preamp outs tho...
  23. Yeah, that's why I'm going to stick with the AVR for now, I just can't afford to go preamp/amp at this time...
