  1. If they had the sound products in the store and the price was as cheap as other locations... I would go to HD to buy them and get my 10% Military discount.
  2. When did Home Depot start selling Audio Equipment? http://www.homedepot.com/b/Electrical-Home-Theater-Home-Audio/N-5yc1vZc641 I came across this when I was looking for Subdudes. They are def selling Aurelex at full retail prices.
  3. Gotcha. When I put them in the HT I am going to have a stage with a screen wall... I might just make a border along the bottom of the screen that will seal the bass bin bottom edge to it. If I do that the space problem will be moot won't it?
  4. When I got married I listed my requirements for a house and I have stuck with them... Pond, Home Theater, and garage. The rest of the house she can do whatever she wants to with. Now I decided to make the garage into a Home Theater so she will now get the living room too, but that was my idea and my decision to move the HT to the garage!
  5. Send your wife off for a Day SPA... and while she is gone flush mount the KHorns into the wall. Or it might be easier to just build the wall out while she is gone and then paint it so she doesn't even know anything happened... You might have to send her to the SPA for the weekend though.

    PSA Triax

It is ok now but when I move to the 2 car garage HT setup I anticipate needing a 2nd Triax for smoothing only (I have more spl than I will ever need). I have a chance to pick up a pair of Danley Super SPUDs which will cost me less than buying another Triax... So it is mainly an economic decision, plus I have the room for monster subs. If I was going to leave the sub in my Familyroom like it is now it is more than enough.

    PSA Triax

Well i decided to sell the Triax sub... I am getting 2 Danley DTS-10 subs. If it is not smooth enough i will then DIY a couple of SPUDs to put beneath the rear seats, with the DTS-10s going behind the front screen..
  8. Build them with a better wood, you won't be sorry, also OSB is not very smooth depending on what kind of finish your thinking of. I like the spud, I only have one and would like to build another for the other corner, it's amazing what it can do with small drivers, it's a cheap build for a good sub. There is also the bigger brother of the Spud using bigger drivers if that fit your space better ? I was thinking of maybe 4 SPUDs in my theater... 1 SPUD (or maybe 2 behind my back row) would work, and maybe 2 of the larger versions for the front screen (if I could find the plans for them). I wish that i would have had the cash when they had they Super SPUD kits. I would have bought 2 of them! Looks like I will be getting 2 of the Super SPUDS! I will see how they work out and maybe get 1 or 2 SPUDS for under the back row of seats when the HT is completed.
  9. Good to know... I had purchased some plans for a Horn loaded sub that was built with OSB. I will most likely be building some SPUD subs instead.
  10. I could be wrong, but I would think there would be way to much flex, and voids. I have seen it used for some subs and according to this link there are no voids... http://www.norbord.com/na/blog/plywood-or-osb-panels-which-is-better-2 It is way cheaper. Oriented strand board (OSB) would be the absolute worst choice for speaker cabinet building. Why? I have seen it used for subs and according to the link I posted it has no voids.
  11. ellisr63, those look really good. However, I thought I should mention that having the space under the bass bin could have a negative effect on the sound. It violates PWK's 5th Cardinal Point for Sound Reproduction, as you can see here: http://itishifi.blogspot.ca/2010/05/eight-cardinal-points-in-loudspeakers.html For practical purposes, you could make up small panels to close off the cavity and see if you can hear any difference. The theoretical difference might not be audible in this particular case. So, you are saying to close off the front of the space below the bass bin (between the 2 legs)? Not a problem I can do that.... I was just copying what Volti had done with a pair. It might all be moot when I build a false wall up in front of them with a AT screen.
  12. When you butted the new walls up against the old ... Did you leave the old sheet rock in place? Did you sheet rock the new wall on both sides or just one side? I am asking because I will be doing mine in the next few months. Did you do any noise level testing before and after (measuring from outside the garage?
  13. Well I wasn't happy with the stain so I stripped it back off and I am adding another layer of 1/4" Maple to the sides of the cabinet and maybe the backs. I still need to make the supports for the horn too. I think the horn supports will be like the floating curved wine bottle holders. I just have to figure out how they bend the wood to get the nice curve out of them. The only other option I can think of is to get some 4x6 or larger wood beams and cut them to the shape with a bandsaw.
  14. This is what I picked up off CL... 2 black La Scalas $500 1 La Scala $450 2 Heresy Industrial HIPs $500
  15. I could be wrong, but I would think there would be way to much flex, and voids. I have seen it used for some subs and according to this link there are no voids... http://www.norbord.com/na/blog/plywood-or-osb-panels-which-is-better-2 It is way cheaper.
  16. What about using OSB plywood and then using 1/4" birch skinned over it?
  17. I have the 4520 and I love it. Or you could try the x4000 for less money.
  18. I have been thinking of getting the Festool also.
  19. What are the speaker cable limitations? Can I run 30' speaker wire length without a problem (I want to run my cables close to my preamp and go to all sides of the HT room for all channels)? A friend is going to make me up a 12 channel amp out of 2 channel chip amps... I am not sure which chip amp to get. I don't want more than 30wpc (I think even a 10wpc chip amp will be fine) tia, Ron
  20. A friend of mine is going to build me a 12 channel amp using chip amps... I saw in the 2 channel section where someone actually compared the sound to their tube amp. The chip amps can be had for around $5 for a stereo kit on eBay.
  21. Not sure you'll get much of a response on the 2-channel forum. I would think you'd want more power for home theater applications. Why would I need more power... At reference level I am only using 1 or 2 watts on peaks for the La Scalas and maybe 8 watts on the KP3002s. Most of the time I watch my movies at -20db (from reference) which is way less than 1 watt continuous.

    DIY sub

Here is a question... If I was able to find a set of plans for a THSPUD, could a person make it 22" instead of 11" wide and put in 18"ers to get the efficiency up and dig deeper? Maybe run 2 of them behind the screen plus 2 THSPUDs under the back row seats.

    DIY sub

Minidsp would do the job correct?
