  1. Dave, As to sources, all of the information that you provided, in your lengthy reply to mine, have ALL been reported in Popular Science Magazine, many times. I was trying to relate that I (personally), would never use Popular Science or any other "Like" publication, as a source for what would/could be considered cutting edge advanced technology. I will stand by MY statement that the ADVANCED Technology that has NOT been conveyed to the general public, is actually better than the U-2/Blackbird comparison, mentioned before. Again, what is being developed "behind the scenes" today is much more advanced than the era 40 years ago, comparison. Lord I hope that made sense.........and I was certainly NOT offended, as I always love a lively siscussion. just could not figure how you could call me naieve, when I was the one that brought it up..... All is good...!
  2. Dave, You responded to my post above the last one with a rather lengthy response. The information that you cited has some seriously flawed sources. I am the one that states that our present technology is far beyond anything that has been made public and then you call me "Naieve". have NO idea where you are trying to go with this.....but it is fine....
  3. Dave, I would have hoped, that your sources for the above post, would have at least been a notch or two above Popular Science bunk/crap....again, I digress
  4. I would be curious to know WHO came up with the new catch phrase "Keeper of the Sound". I feel this defines the goals of the Company much better than "A Legend in Sound", as it defines the intent to stay ahead of the competition on ALL fronts in Audio Reproduction and places responsibility on the Company to stay in the forefront of technology.
  5. The technology that is fed to the general public, is a good twenty five years behind what is actuallyb going on, behind the veil of Black. That is a very conservative estimate. We ain't as dumb as we apear...................
  6. Arash, I doubt that Sheep's Wool is any better than any other synthetic material for dampning. I would actually think synthetic is better because of the uniform cell structure. I have honestly never heard of using Sheep's Wool for this...car seats covers..yes, but NOT for speakers. This could possibly be some type of Myth or Hype, who knows....YMMV
  7. Amy, We certainly know you are around and I apologize for the cartoon and MY comment, as it WAS a bit out there. We ALL appreciate everything that you guys DO for us...........
  8. Sheep in Iran....now that is a picture for the mind......sorry as I could not resist......[]
  9. Dave, I am sure that it was MY post that stirred the POT and woke the Sheriff up. I will go and open a cold BUD for the BOTH of us, as I digress back into te shadows.............................[H]
  10. Dave, There is really NO difference, as we both stand about the same chance of seeing our dreams come to reality, in OUR lifetimes.......
  11. Dave, Until WE (As a collective) can clean up the absolute WASTE that is Capital Hill, I am afraid ALL of us are on thin Ice. I could go on for weeks about Lobbyist, Assistants to Assistants, the Pentagon, Corruption (Can you say Government Contractors...?) and a whole host of other areas that need major attention that are sucking the life and money out of the economy.. Until something is done at the TOP....The bottom will continue to suffer........and the Outlook...? It only gets worse from here with what we are proposing, as our future leadership.....
  12. Sam (hope that is OK) Check your circuitry...........
  13. coolhand, You certainly do not need to go to that extreme, to elieviate any perceived ringing in the horn.... That thing must have been a bear to move...! I've probably got ten or so 400's around here, in various speakers, that get music pushed through them every day, from tubes to SS amps, and i have yet to hear any "Ringing"....YMMV
  14. Sam, Is your Mid Horn going to go down to 200 Hz? That's asking a lot from it.
  15. Sam (?), You got a couple of Boo Boo's in there....
  16. Both of those are subject to vibrations, shrinkage....that is why "Most" of us use Bondo, as it actually bonds to the wood and does not shrink. JMO
  17. Next time any of you cut your grass, walk by your electrical meter location and look for the bare copper wire that goes down and ties to the Ground Rod for your Electrical Service. By code, it is supposed to be readily accessible and not covered by dirt. If it is, get a small spade and uncover the connection, to the top of the ground rod. This is the most important electrical connection in your complete electrical system. You will probably also see where the Phone and Cable Companies have attached to this same wire. As long as the connections are intact with NO physical damage, you are as good to go as you can get. In a DIRECT strike, this is where it is going to go to ground/Earth. Everything past this point is Fluff...plain and simple. Every electrical pole in an overhead distribution system is grounded to Earth. So, unless you get a direct hit, or it hits between the Pole/Underground Transformer and your house, you are relatively safe. The discussions here about 10,000 amps, this and that (these amp ratings are symmetrical, BTW) and higher, relate to Fault Current in a direct short situation and there is nothing, other than the rating of your service equipment (Panel, Breakers, etc.) that will limit that any further. This is where there is potential to do physical damage, either by destruction or fire, or both, to a structure. As several posters have already mentioned, most, if not all electronic components are Internally Self Protected and there is nothing that you can add that will do any better. As I have mentioned before, who has or knows of someone that has lost a piece of electronic equipment due to any of the above conditions? The 100K dollar warranties, that these guys offer is a pure joke and you must read the FINE print of ANY warranty, NOT just about surges, spikes, brown outs or storms. Most if not all have the act of God clause in there somewhere. A True UPS that completely isolates Line from Load is another animal completely and you probably could not afford to have it installed. Taking a quick walk and being observant, around your house is probably one of the most cost effective measures you can take, to be sure that you are protected. A lightning arrester (available from the Depot and Lowes, mentioned above) is a worthwhile investment, if you are in a higher than normal lightning strike location. it could possibly save you some damage cost to the electrical system in the event of a direct strike, whichis relatively rare.
  18. YA did good.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I've thrown several out for trying to "MESS" with my head....AHHHHH the advantages of being a long term Bachelor...Life DOES have it's rewards.....At least the damn Dogs like me....!
  20. In pouring these experimental moulds, I needed a place to put the excess epoxy. I have several rubber molds of the Klipsch Pie Logos that I used for the excess. I have probably thirty five or so Pie Logos in Black, clear and various other colors from this process. If anyone is interested in any of these please PM me. I have painted some of the raised portions with Gold Paint. they turned out pretty well...... We will be HOT casting Pewter mixes this coming week, to try and achieve the original metal castings physical make up. The individual additives will be added until we obtain something very close to the original castings. I have the proper mix already but we are going to experiment a bit, to see if we can come up with something a bit better. We need to get away from the reaction from the original POT (white) metal castings and the (chalky) reaction of the aluminum annodizing. Something in that process was NOT working and the base metal started a reaction, that bled (bubbled) through the original casting process after a few years. W. C.
  21. Moray, Thanks...That's great and certainly gives me some ideas......Funny thing, I have a set of Main and Tail Rotors from a Cobra in storage. I was thinking of using them in the new building as a ceiling fan...should be interesting. I have a full three bladed prop pff of a Cessna 421 as a ceiling fan in my HT room. Really will move some air.... W. C.
  22. Happy Birthday....Bob.....!!!!!! Today is my Birthday also...small world......[]
  23. Moray, As North Carolina does not recognize Pot for medicinal purposes I can neither confirm or deny, if it would help my back pain[6] I have found that thirty minutes on an inversion bed, helps for about an hour and a half of relief. BTW I do smoke...another one of my many sins.....
