  1. Wow! This is some great tequila! Casa Noble Anejo. Kinda pricey though.
  2. OB this reminds me...you never responded to the link I left on the Sheryl Crow thread about Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac. I had a link there with THAT version of Fleetwood Mac track samples I thought you'd like.
  3. Repulsion is awesome and has been ripped a million times since its release.
  4. I don't really see why it's so weird. Just a bunch of guys who either take pride in their Nodric ancestory and sing about it cook up elaborate tales of Norse mythology and folklore. Was it weird when Zepplin did it?
  5. This is my favorite Viking Metal album. Bathory-Blood Fire Death. Total classic. It just turned 20 years old.
  6. I see the Baby Sophia for $300 all the time and I've always thought that would be a great piece for the tube curious.
  7. I'm going see Man Man on Wednesday for free at Waterloo Record Store here in Austin. I also didn't realize we were talking about the last few years. I felt bad cuz I've only been to maybe 5 shows in the last 6 months but in the last 2-3 years I've probably been to 30 or so.
  8. OB I can't believe you don't like the Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac! It totally fits in with your regular likes. Have you ever even heard the pre-Nicks/McVie stuff? It sounds like John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. It in no way shape or form sounds like Rumours. Just listen to some of THESE tracks for a taste.
  9. Doro and Warlock were pretty big back in the day. She looks just like she did over 20 years ago. I'm ashamed about how few shows I get out to see especially being that I live here in Austin, TX...live music capital of the world. What's worse is that I live right in the thick of where all/most of the shows are. I did go to a GREAT show a few weeks ago though. I've recommended this artist in a few threads a month or so ago when her album was new-ish. Thao with The Get Down Stay Down. I wore this thing out when I first got it. I think I described her as Cat Power, Feist and the instrumentation of Sufjan Stevens in a blender. Check out Beat (Health, Life And Fire) and Bag Of Hammers on that link for some catchy tunes. To top it off she's not too shabby on the eyes. The venue was a really cool outside venue that I've been to check out for a while. There were several levels to hang out and watch the show from with one being directly over the stage. Thao is now opening up for Rilo Kiley at a bunch of shows so she'll get some major exposure for sure. I will be going to The Breeders show soon. I wanted to go to the Negativland show last week but I had my wisdom teeth removed the day of the show(they did a show the next night as well but I figured I'd be down for the count). I think I'll check out Kid Koala next week. He is an incredible DJ who doesn't "just play people's records" nor does he use headphones! Listen to some of THESE crazy tracks. Watch him kill MOON RIVER HERE or just to see what he's all about. The guy certainly has a twisted sense of humor. He fills his music with crazy samples/dialog often dealing with collecting records, hi-fi, etc. with lots of leftfield jazz, easy listening, funk and basically what "normal" people don't sample. I'm definitely going to Stars Of The Lid on 5/7 as I've heard they have an amazing live show lately. They're kind of ambient but using a lot real instruments such as cello, strings...mix Eno with Kronos Quartet.
  10. That's one of the major reasons people use the Mac-Mini setup is because there is NO noise. I can't even tell that it's on. It also has everything you need right out of the box. Sorry I can't help you with the wireless thing as I have no need for that and have no experience with it whatsoever. I don't see the big reason to go wireless when the size of a 1000GB hard drive is the size of a paperback book. Just stick it next to the computer that's connected to the dac you'll be using. It's usually not a good idea to use wav since they will not retain "tag" info. And the equivelant of a wav file for a Mac is an aiff file. Same uncompressed file. I don't have any experience with flac files since I've always associated them with pc users. If you're rich you can pay for a company to rip them for you but I could NEVER send all of my cd's to someone to do that. It would probably cost about $2000 for all of mine. Plus I want to enter the info myself because I can place associated artists together and enter their names, etc the way I wanna do it. CDDB automatically does stupid stuff like enters artists first name first so you have a bunch of "Johns" under "John" instead of their last name, etc. To give you an idea of how much/little space Apple Lossless uses I have 43 days of music ripped now using up 343GB. I guess I'm just a Mac guy and I'm very biased so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. At the very least if you already have a computer and want to make a $140 investment in this dac you can always sell it and get your $ back. At least you can experiment and see if it's up your alley. I really wish you could use Front Row though. I'm sure there's a pc equivalent(rip-off) :-) Go to a Mac Store and fool around with it.
  11. Here are a few videos I posted here months ago that kinda shows how this works. It's an overall view of my system with Pt. 2 focusing a little more on the Mac. Nothing special. I just did these one day when I was sick at home. BTW the only thing I would buy that has an HP emblem on it is a printer.
  12. Hattrick all those bands Steve likes are like heavy prog-metal. I don't think he'll like The Sword but I could be wrong. Like sludgy, stoner Sab-metal Skonopa?
  13. Pyro, Those were the two exact players I had in mind when I was shoppong around last year. I went, I listened & I liked but then I started looking into other possibilities. I really liked the idea of something a little more interactive and "fun" so I went with a Mac-Mini, a usb dac & storage. I have to say that it has been a very tedious job in ripping my 5-6,000 cd's but the closer I get the more I like the choice I made. I'll probably get a more high-end dac in the future but I swear this little Fubar II sounds to my ears just as good as the players I auditioned. It's great to be able to use tags to search for music/songs that meet a certain criteria. It's great to look at artwork using Front Row that's as big as LP artwork.I like it when friends come over, grab the remote control and ask about the music and the system. I just like it all.
  14. But if you use your checking account as a source to pay with then no one pays anything...unless they changed the rules.
  15. That way works perfectly. You get the same results by clicking the not too obvious add image link from the icon bar. It's the picture of the tree by the way. When you use that you are also able to resize the image or you can just grab a corner and adjust it that way. Maybe I'll add to this later but I just wanted to stop in because I've been recovering from oral surgery all day today(wisdom teeth).
  16. Just wanted to do this to help with those who are a little computer-challenged :-) 1-How do I create and name a clickable link in a post? First thing that you'll need to do is copy the url that you want to link to. You can do this by having a window open for that particular address, clicking in the address field until it is all highlighted, then pull down the "Edit" menu from your browser and click "Copy" or use the shortcut by pressing "Command"-for Mac or "CTRL"-for Windows and "C". Next we'll click the reply button where we'd like to create or link. Once the screen shows up where you type your message you can go ahead and compose your reply. Then you'll simply highlight the word that you want to make clickable. You do this by holding down your mouse button and dragging it across the word, letting go when it is completely highlighted. Now have you ever noticed all the little pictures of things above where you type your message? The tree, the smiley face, etc. Those icons actually do things! It's amazing! Since we want to create a link we're going to click...you guessed it. The picture of the chain link. The following box should appear. So at this point you should place your cursor inside of the field that says "Link URL" and paste the address there. You can do this by either pressing "Command" & "V", "CTRL" & "V" or the slow way using the pull-down Edit window and choose paste. Notice how the letter V looks like the tip of a glue bottle? That's how you remember that the V is the shortcut key for PASTE. Get it? One last thing that you should do is pull down that "target" menu and choose "open link in a new window". This is almost always the preferred way to handle these. Why? Do you ever click on a link(which then closes your Klipsch page) and while you're checking out that link you click on another link and before too long you're a dozen steps away from your Klipsch page and you have to start all over? By opening the link up in a page all by itself it'll leave your Klipsch page open so when you're done clicking links it'll still be there. Next we'll figure out how to deal with pics in posts. I hope this helps.
  17. We just talked about this in another thread. I wonder if we can't make a sticky topic for the forum that shows everyone how to do simple things like include/link to pictures and make clickable links, etc. I'm also sick of cutting and pasting url's.
  18. Just type what you want the link to say. I use the word HERE a lot... as in click HERE. Then highlight the word HERE. At this point the picture of the chain link will lite up. Click the link and a dialog box will open letting you paste the link there. That's it. I always choose "open link in a new window" from the pull-down menu there as well.
  19. Mine is about the Outlaw 1050 I purchased. I wanted to see if anyone else was using the same combo. I still have the 1050 but my KG4.2's are now serving surround duty & I think I sold that Parasound phono pre for about the same price I paid for it. Replaced with the Bellari. 11-01-01
  20. I'm using Logic Pro 8 and I love it but it's not for everyone. Definitely the best deal out there now as they've dropped the price to $499. It IS a Mac-only app. I'm using Dynaudio BM5A monitors and a M-Audio Tampa preamp.
  21. Vista is going to go down as one of the worst OS's ever. One of the problems Scooterdog is that not everyone is Scooterdog. Vista is not a user-friendly OS and 95% of its users are just casual users and not tweakers. Are Macs really that much more expensive? The entry-level iMac kills for the money.
  22. .aiff is not compressed. It is just the native Apple format for audio. From what I've read Apple Lossless doesn't really take anything away from the music. It's closer to how a zip file works with data. It "zips" the music file and "unzips" it as it being played rahter than just removing bits like mp3's do.
  23. Calexico came from a few members of the band Giant Sand whose first album came out at almost 25 years ago. The first Calexico album came out around '95 or so. They did an album with Iron & Wine a few years ago that is really good. That one's called In The Reins. They also had a band called Friends Of Dean Martinez in between Giant Sand and Calexico that were great. They sounded like a modernized Ennio Morricone spaghetti western soundtrack. Another Giant Sand member Howe Gelb has moonlighted with a bunch of bands including Neko Case and one of my girlfriend's favorite M. Ward. Giant Sand is kinda Neil Young, Built To Spill & Pavement-ish. I sound like an encyclopedia.
  24. Come Together/Something by The Beatles. I always hear their name...The Beatles. Any good?
