  1. I've had mine on walls and not in corners and you can't stand in the room with the low end. Any chance someone fiddled with the connections or you're out of phase?
  2. Some of the rebuild threads found here use simple auto bondo. You are really just trying to fill voids for a veneer to adhere to and to reshape crisp edges so that if you do re-veneer, you've got the right shape without waves and gaps. I wouldn't be afraid of veneer if you can get the right stuff and adhere it the right way. Your cabinet pro might have ideas about fixing the substrate before applying veneer.
  3. Yes? https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/98877-how-to-new-grills-grill-cloth-etc/
  4. It is amazing all the things you can do with a good table saw. Cutting 4x8 sheets of plywood, using a dado blade, and if you go all out, things like tenons, box joints, and mitres. I was giddy when I bought my first table saw a couple years ago. It sometimes doubles as a taller work surface. Enjoy!
  5. Got the bdp103 added to the collection. I've set it up for video play only at the moment because of space limits and lack of 5th channel. The video is very nice on even standard DVDs. Streaming Netflix is much higher quality than thru my xbox360 too. The flexibility of this player is really awesome.
  6. I've got KG4s and they need corners. I have mine in corners approximately 45 degrees and only slightly off the walls. That general configuration in any house that I've been in since 1990 has been the ticket. Play around with toe in/out and distance though. Each room is a little different. Good luck!
  7. Would the RC-64 or 62 get you in the ball park? I've got corns and would like to jump up to some 5.1 action. Not to hijack a thread or anything.
  8. Oh yeah, the raw horn before finish would have looked awesome too. Maybe not matching what you wanted but still nice looking.
  9. If you have scrap left over I would mimic the finish you've got to this point. Then take a scratch pad (3M or similar) and go over the surface. Then re-apply the finish to see what you get. Plywood requires a lot of work to get a consistent finish.
  10. I heard CW2 and adcom 25 years ago, completely brand new system and it was a very nice setup. Volume and clarity for days. Room, setup and source can probably sound ok. And my denon avr sounds really nice with my cw1. Everyone's ears different.
  11. I have Cornwall 1s that I recently refinished, including crossovers. I run them with either my denon avr or my adcom. I get a hum thru the speakers with my adcom and no noise whatsoever with the denon. Adcom seems to be the issue here. I simply swapped original crossover with crites. Easy as pie. However, you may only need caps. So if you've got any soldering ability, you can buy just those and remove the originals. Probably don't need new crossovers.
  12. Wood stains will allow the wood grain to show. It might take some mix and match to get the right finish which is the difficult part. I built a drawer/door table used in my bedroom and it had to match a store bought dresser. It took a few times to get the color matched but it meant both a red and brown stain done in stages. Wood grain comes right through. Practiced on pieces of maple scrap so I could compare to the dresser without lugging the table around.
  13. I've got the GTP-600 pre. This could be a relatively inexpensive way to tame the buzz.
  14. I've got a bunch of vinyl that I clean with a damp microfiber towel and when dry an antistatic carbon fiber brush. Vinyl is dirty almost immediately! Would also like to see more about this.
  15. Definite great news! They look great (cosmetically) and would agree with other's posts about listening to them for a while before swapping out parts.
  16. Yeah. First time running them with the adcom gear. It might be something I can live with. Maybe not though!
  17. I have a basic surge protector and as far as I know, no other wiring in the wall near the equipment. Speakers are in a nook next to no other electronics save a carbon monoxide detector within 3 or 4 feet or so. Pre was turned on first but only by about 30 seconds. Amp was turned off first and buzz was still coming thru mids. It did sound as though the buzz was coming thru tweets and mids.
  18. For all the years my dad had a turntable I know he never serviced it and it seems like it ran forever! I will keep an eye on it as it seems like a regular cleaning and oil will help this thing last a lot longer.
  19. The tone control on the pre was bad. I also had popping thru the speakers when the amp shutdown. Circuit protection was added and when I powered down today, no pop.
  20. I just tested with my third receiver and no buzz but more like a slight white noise hiss. The denon avr had almost zero noise that I would expect and really just blasted some guns n roses. Same plug (surge protector) as the others. Old house and old wiring.
  21. Every time I turn around its something new. I had some service done to both my adcom pre and amp. Hook em up to my Cornwalls and notice a constant hum/buzz thru tweeter and possibly squawkers. It's a little quieter when the pre is off. It doesn't seem to get louder with volume. Side note, I had them hooked up to an old sony avr and get a similar buzz. I recently rebuilt these with new crossovers and double checked all connections. Thoughts?
  22. Some denatured alcohol and lube. I cleaned the spindle shaft and belt shaft. Dirty surfaces to be sure. Oiled both. Prior to lube the table seemed to spin at the right speed. Oiled and ran the platter with the mat and then again with a record playing too. All seems at the right speed. Funny that a little grit and lack of oil could impact so drastically. I really like the look of the vintage players, especially this one with wood base.
