  1. same things apply to the 1 to 2 models, ive owned forte & F2's & there is very little difference in the sound... some actually like the forte better than the F2. same thing happened back then in the late 80s through mid 90s, people were all worked up about the 2s but the owners of original fortes didnt rush out to buy the 2s & if some did i bet they really had to reach to convince themselves the money they spent was worth it. side by side it was very hard to tell the difference between the 2, as ODS123 said, it was very subtle at best. i have not heard the forte 3 or 4 so cant really comment on them but if someone spent $3000+ for F3s & then a couple years later spent another $4000 for the 4s, did they really make a $4000 upgrade?? i would guess not. as for the upgrade kits, unless there enough profit for klipsch to do that, i doubt we will see a kit anytime soon if at all, would hurt the F4 sales too much. same with the chorus3 thing, highly doubtful since it would hurt the cornwall 4 sales too much. but one can always wish.
  2. reach out to member @ngen33r he may be able to repair the original amp for cheaper than a new incorrect one.
  3. yep i agree with getting everything in one place. you can also ask them if they can make the values you need, they did make a lytic cap for me in a value i needed a couple years ago.
  4. depending on how bad the room corners are, you can also pivot/toe in the tops a small amount by removing the L brackets or wing nuts that attach the tops to the bass bins. enclosing the backs is an option but they wont have the same bass response of being sealed in full corners since they are designed to use the walls as part of the horn.
  5. i asked a similar question awhile back & the consensus was that being off by .1 or .2 shouldnt matter on caps that have a 5-10% tolerance. the originals could be off by more than that just in their tolerances so i doubt it would hurt anything or make any noticeable difference in sound. ERSE has the 3.9 & 8.2 in the pulse X line or can stack 2, 2.0 as mentioned to reach the 4. they also have the mylar line in the correct values of 4.0 & 8.0 & even the 24uf. the 6% lytic are 25uf but again with the 10% tolerence of this cap the 25 would be close enough.
  6. can you clarify why he wants to enclose the backs? if he has decent corners in the room there is no reason or benefit to enclose the backs. & if he doesnt have good corners the next best option is to build false corners based on PWKs plans.
  7. what are the values of the capacitors you need for these speakers?
  8. they are mylar. i agree that a decent poly metalized cap is all thats needed for these mid-fi speakers, any of the mentioned brands from PE will work fine, or look at the ERSE caps, they get very good reviews & cant be beat for the price, Crites told me they test as good as the 1% daytons. i have used them in a many different klipsch & other brand speakers with very good results, cured a very bad issue with chorus 2 that sounded like a blanket was covering the fronts with the aged stock caps & made a noticeable improvement over forte2 with stock caps that sounded fine before hand. biggest plus is they are sized similar to the stock caps so they will fit on the board without any rearranging like the bigger sonicaps or other similar brands. ERSE sells mylar film caps too that are similar to the stock klipsch caps. removing & changing the caps on these types of boards is very quick & easy to do. report back with your results.
  9. that is true however we have no way if knowing of the lytic caps are bad or to what extent. my point was based on a working capacitor or even one a little out of spec. complete failure would be different. when recapping an x-over of this age & unknown condition, its best to just do the whole thing not just hope one cap is bad.
  10. SVS are excellent subs & with everything you mentioned above they are hard to beat for the price points, add to that the warranty is transferable, 1yr upgrade program, & they have the best customer service in the business, call them & a knowledgeable person picks up the phone on the 3 or 4th ring & will talk with you for a half hour if you need advice on which sub is best for your needs/room or for technical assistance before or after the sale... & they reply to emails in a day or 2! they also do large giveaways on their podcast once a month or so. yes there are "better" subs but SVS has a lot going for it other companies dont, & their performance is very good & competitive with many of the top brands out there. HSU is another good value to performance sub to consider. even the sb/pb1000pro is a great sub for ~$500. i own 2 sb2000 & they are very good subs, especially for their size, about a 14" cube, in a similar 15x21 room they are as much as i need to add the lower octave the chorus drop off at, great for music & movies. most people agree the sb/pb3000 is the best bang for the buck & has an app for smart phone controls. i am planning to upgrade to the sb3000 this year & will put the 2000s up for sale.
  11. from what Mr Crites explained to me, the electrolytic cap is in the woofer "dump" circuit & has little to no effect on the sound. the mylar film caps in the mid/tweet section are what will make the large majority of difference in sound. Crites kits are worth the money for those that cant or dont want to research other caps & find correct values, which is really very easy to do. the dayton & sonicaps they sell can be found for a little cheaper from other sources, & if you can do basic soldering the full kits are pointless since the caps are the only thing that need replaced in older speakers, the rest of the parts dont really go bad.
  12. yeah for budget speakers like this the budget caps from dayton or ERSE will be perfectly fine. only need to use poly caps in the mid & tweeter section, the electrolytic in teh woofer section doeesnt effect the sound much & can stay lytic, some like poly caps there too but according to Crites & many others they dont make a difference you can hear & the values are usually pretty big so a 50uf+ poly cap will be huge & difficult to make fit on the stock boards. also just an FYI: crites says resistors wont change the sound any, some like to upgrade the cement cast resistors for mills type but according to many people its not worth it, especially on $100 speakers.
  13. kg 3 & 2.2 are pretty old now so would be good candidates for a recap, can use budget caps like dayton or ERSE etc or the klipsch caps some prefer, the benefit would be getting new ones in there. the TI tweets should be an improvement, most people that use them really like them but as with anything in this hobby, some dont like them. ive used them in forte2 before & made a very noticeable improvement over the stock ones.
  14. will get lots of opinions on this subject, many are biased or unexperienced & just repeating what they've read. you can use either type of capacitor if the values are the same & the average person would most likely never be able to hear a difference. with that being said, there are better quality caps out there so depends on your budget what you use. countless people have used the polypropylene caps like dayton, or sonicaps or you can jump on board with the "klipsch authroized" caps mentioned in other threads. nothing wrong with using either type & im not knocking any of them, but in my experience the budget poly caps sound very good & in most cases better than the aged stock mylar type caps used in most modern klipsch speakers. i've used daytons before & recently like & use ERSE brand caps based on what Crites recommended to me a couple years ago saying they measure as good or better than other similar priced caps. Also some of the higher priced & voltage caps like sonicaps are physically larger than the stock ones so can be hard to place on the printed circuit board, the ERSE fit with no problem & you can do both speakers for $20 or less with shipping. parts express carries some good brands also. just my .02
  15. the F series velodyne subs are very good & were top of the line in their day. i have owned a couple of the f1500 subs & even though the amps were lower power compared to todays subs they were amazing subs, if still in good working condition you cant really beat them for the used prices ive seen them for. the 1000 is a 10" but for $100 sounds like a good deal. be aware, these are servo controlled & if the woofer goes bad they are expensive to repair & hard to find a place to do it, a friend had a f1200 that blew the woofer & he replaced it with a different brand & it still sounded very good. the amps are usually pretty reliable unlike too many other newer brands.
  16. they look great. maybe i missed the details but what caps did you use & how do they sound? & what is the reason or benefit of moving everything to a separate board?
  17. one thing i noticed that was kind of a neat touch, is the screws for the woofers & passives are copper colored, they arent actually copper but more like the heads were painted with a thin faded copper color you can see in the woofer pics above. never saw that on any other klipsch of this era & its kind of a nice touch... wonder why klipsch would have done that on cheaper built military speakers?
  18. pulled some drivers & got some pics to show the insides of the tangent 500s. wood looks just like the pics of the 5000s but hard to see close details. the glue is very thick & builds up & runs on the wood blocks. no light shines through any of the seams or corners, they look as solid as any KG i have owned. woofers are a shiny coated fiber & crossovers are same parts as other models of this era. foam is just laid in there like others, i put them back with a little tape to hold.
  19. ouch! looks like some pretty bad damage on the backs of the cabinets, possible water damage since the wood looks swelled & the seams expanding. would need possible cabinet repair & re-veneered, but worth the asking price in parts. woofers & passives look good.

    Chorus 2's DC Area

the first ad was gone because the posting expired, means it was on there for 45-60 days with no sale & the current link is almost 1 month old... the proclamations of them being too expensive for a quick sale is pretty accurate in this case.
  21. klipsch will only sell them if you have a serial number as previously mentioned , & they are not the original looking passives with fiber surrounds , they have the rounded foam surrounds like the forte3/4.
  22. yes chorus 2 are excellent speakers, top of the chain for the quartet & forte line & as good or better than cornwalls that are the top of the non horn loaded bass models of the heritage line. $600 is a great price considering they sell for $1000+ in good shape. the crossovers arent automatically bad so listen to them before messing with replacement, if they sound good they dont "need" to be replaced. some like to upgrade the quality of the capacitors but the rest of the parts in them dont really go bad so no need to buy a expensive full replacement crossover, if you feel the need to update them you can just buy new capacitors for relatively cheap & replace them yourself if you have basic soldering skills or know someone that does. another popular upgrade is using titanium diaphrams in the tweeters. if the rear passives are damaged you can have them reconed for very decent prices from simply speakers or other speaker parts companies. i would grab them asap if they are in good shape & for that price even if teh cabinets are a little rough as they can usually be improved or even re-veneered or painted black if you like that.
  23. just to clarify , klipsch does not have "Original" Passives Radiators for forte2 , they only have the forte3/4 with the foam or rubber surrounds that will function but are cosmetically different than originals.

    Quartets in iowa

    a little on the high side for price but they look to be very nice shape. these are in my home town & i could possibly help with inspection or hold them for someone to arrange pick up. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3800827476810007/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_general&referral_story_type=general&tracking={"qid"%3A"-7000413649798690497"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"986521357591844241"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A986521357591844241%2C\"target_type\"%3A6%2C\"primary_position\"%3A18%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A5864814714982236160%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A501%2C\"value\"%3A2.5805799368872e-5%2C\"upsell_type\"%3A3504%2C\"grouping_info\"%3Anull}"%2C"lightning_feed_qid"%3A"-7000427393706254666"%2C"lightning_feed_ranking_signature"%3A"5595908582106202112"}
