  1. Super MWM will sound much better and weigh a lot less. Probably less than 400 pounds per stack.
  2. The secret to finest audio is to live in the country where no one will whine about what you do or build or how much noise you make.
  3. Say are you in sales by any chance?
  4. Yeah that's crap. Maybe he forgot the 4 in front of the 6.
  5. The very best 301's I have ever had were older ones with the grill cloth on masonite grille covers. Check to make sure none of the perforated metal grille is touching the sides which will cause problems. Some of them were a tight fit and you had to align them just right to stop annoying noise. A rubber washer in between the grille and the top of the plastic rod standoffs will also help.
  6. People who have never heard these just flat out have no idea how good these are. Knowing what I know today if I was not handy at building things I would drive a long way to get a set of these rare overachievers. Yeah you know your veneer stuff is measured at 1 meter but these babies are 99db at THREE meters and the sound is just incredible. You invite people over to hear your system and most of the time it is head nodding and foot tapping and they say good things. You get a set of these and those same people get bug eyes and refuse to leave.
  7. Gone forever. I have some things here I am really debating on whether I should sell or just wait a year or two for them to go up another 40+ %. Looking at crossovers on EBay today and many Type E's are the same price as Bob is selling new ones with better components. They have gone up at least 30% and last year I could get pairs for $100 shipped and the market has just gone crazy. My next La Scala project will sell for what I want or I wait a bit and let prices go up again and then sell. I can't replace what I am selling now so when it is gone it is gone. Hunting for used to fix up used to be fun.
  8. OK looking to book my room this weekend and want to know more. Thursday is early set up and meet day but what is the earliest time we have access to the hall. In other words should I be there Wednesday evening? Now what about Sunday? How late are people staying and will we be using the hall then too? Do I need to get there Wednesday and plan on leaving Monday morning?
  9. Well that presumes we know what the original design specs were with the ESR factored in. I have yet to find the design ESR values for old crossovers.
  10. Interesting. I have avoided two capacitors when one would provide the right value because I like the neater appearance. Yeah at the age of 66 I don't figure I will outlive those Daytons and put the money in my pocket.
  11. You have that right. There is no measurable difference no matter how you hook up the meter. Here is some more heresy. I had no 8uf caps on hand but some Sonicaps and did not feel like spending the money on a set of crossovers. So I took a Dayton 1% 5.1uf and 3uf and it measured just the same as the Sonicap at 8.1uf but better on esr. I just love capacitors and they are second only to conductors for nonsense.
  12. That cutout is the way two piece LSI's were feeding the bass bin only the cutout was at the top and not the bottom. No way to break things off during moving.
  13. The 415's are nice but muddy sounding compared to the S-MWM. I have not set them up optimally so I expect the 415's to sound better in time. Never as good as a single fold horn though I have no doubt.
  14. Are you doing this before SWAG? If you bringing them are why not do just one and then let everyone hear the difference
  15. I have been happy with mine. Running pro gear like KPT-456's and a set of MMCM 1900's sounded really good with an xli800. EQ can change how you flavor your music. Now with Bi-amping and a xilica I figure I can duplicate most anything within reason to get a tube like sound to raw heavy metal or cellos or pipe organs. Why don't you try to find someone close by who will let you borrow an amp and see what you really like? Bang for the buck I like the Crowns. Got rid of an Integra 50.2 amp that was supposed to do it all for the Crown and no regrets.
  16. I have two of them now and bi-amping and no complaints. The next size up (xli1500) is on sale for $199 at Crown and Amazon right now. After using pro amps for a while and considering cost per watt and quality of output ratios I don't consider home owner gear. Now I have never had Macintosh and some people whom I respect really like those and other higher end home gear but they are way to pricey for my taste. The few that I have heard were on different speakers than I run and none of those setups impressed me. What part of those systems as an aggregate was the weak link I don't know.
  17. OK I opt for thicker where ever possible and assuming you can maintain the internal volume of the KHorn by adjusting for thickness. I regularly use 25mm for my speaker projects although of course I would not for something like a KHorn.
  18. Those xli's are WAY more than you will ever need to push Cornwalls. 330 watts at 8 ohms per channel is three times + the rated intput of Cornwalls at 100 watts maximum continuous input.
  19. Jimbo told me that to and when I went to the pilgrimage and had to choose between the two behind the bar as to which looked like the avatar I picked Jim.
  20. There was a 3 meter doo-dad with a box that had what appeared to be four potentiometers behind the fancy facade and knobs over at Audiogon for over $60,000 USED. I used to go there for the humor of it all but the idea that so many there are dead serious about their nonsense became more than I cared to experience. The new Heresy is a great improvement because of all the real things done to it. The wire is marketing department nonsense.
  21. Why the simple answer is marketing. There are cheapskates like me who buy 12g zip cord 100' at a time and then there are those golden ear's that can apparently detect differences to subtle for me. Golden ears are blessed with insatiable desire to spend money and marketing likes them.
