  1. NOSValves, thanks for the clarification. I had an idea that even after all the research that I done I would still screw something up.. Although its not a SET, it still sounds good. Now I will be looking for a single ended amp that used EL84's as power tubes.. Now that would be a true SET amp correct? This little amp sounds amazing with my cornscala 3 way horn speakers (E-140, K-55V dual phase plug, and B&C DE-10)! Can't imagine how well a true SET would sound. On a side note I am selling my Emotiva UPA-200 amplifier that is in like new condition with original packaging in order to fund my next tube amp. Thanks again to all for all this very helpfull info!!
  2. I just wanted to say thanks to all the members who gave me advice on this topic! So after a couple of months I finally decided to pull the trigger on a tube amp. I went with Jim's suggestion in particular and chose a variant of a Aiqin Audio (Douk Audio) EL34 single ended triode SET amp. It uses a 5Z3P Rectifier tube, 2 6N9P Preamp tubes and 2 EL34 Power tubes and is good for 12 wpc in default mode and 8 wpc in triode mode?. I have the amp currently hooked up to a pair of Cornscalas and wow this thing sounds NICE! Being my first tube amp, I am truly impressed with the sound quality. I can now fully understand the synergy between Klipsch speakers and SET amps. Huge soundstage, great depth, width and height with an abundance of realism. Here is the amp I purchased http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nobsound-EL34-Single-ended-Class-A-Stereo-Tube-Amplifier-Rectifier-HIFI-AMP/281312152025?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D39825%26meid%3D3826de3136f74c9d8ffec2f22b77455a%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D271612287363
  3. Hi wdeho, the amp that I used was a Grommes PG10.. It sounded nice but just didn't have quite enough power to drive a lot of bass. Female vocals however were very nice. What do you suggest for a good PP or SET amp without costing an arm and a leg? I own Cornwall II's, 2 pair of Heresy 1's, a custom Heresy build, and a pair of Cornscalas and a few others but no tube amps. Been wanting to try another tube amp, but it can get a bit confusing as far PP and SET.. I have read that there seems to be magic with Klispsch speakers and SET amps. What is a good 35 wpc chineese amp? I have seen a lot on flea bay but get lost after a while. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I tried using a tube amp with my Klipsch RF-3 speakers and it sounded great at low to low/medium listening volumes.. it distorted at higher volumes as I listen to a variety of music including bass heavy hip-hop.. Seems like music with a lot of bass robs all the power of low power tube amps.. just my personal input, hope this makes sense. by the way it was a 7 wpc tube amp.
  5. My vote goes to the RF-3. Wasn't on the list but is a very close relative of the ones listed. A mighty fine speaker.
  6. Deang, send me some Jupiter wax paper/film, and Jensen paper in oil caps and I will let you know what I think. Your opinion and input are very much appreciated here.
  7. Deang the Selenium will play as low as 450hz
  8. Deang, you are right, this mid will not reach 6000hz but there is no need to cross at 6k since his tweeter will play as low as 2000hz.. This would only be an issue if one were to attempt to use with a K77.. Thats not the case here.. I have crossed the D250X at 4000-4500hz. Sounds good and measures good.
  9. I believe the D250Ph is the same driver as D250X just branded with a different name. I have used and am currently using a D250X driver in a custom 3 way. I actually prefer the sound of the D250X over the k55v. It is more sensitive and and overall just sounds better to my ears. My custom 3 way consists of a 15 inch JBL E-140 woofer, D250X midrange, and D220Ti for a tweeter.. I replaced the D220Ti with a B&C DE110 and wow what a difference.. The DE110 is also more sensitive than the D220TI and sounds way better. I also use a modified Type E network. PM me if you want crossover info.
  10. Are you using a D250X driver or the D250PH?
  11. Nice Job Chuck. Looks good. Now it's time to sit back and enjoy the sound.
  12. yeah, Panasonic also sold the rights to the "Elite Series" of receivers to Pioneer. Panasonic has a reputation of inventing great products and then selling the copyrights to Pioneer.
  13. Yeah, Panasonic only made the SX980 for a couple years, then sold the rights and patent to Pioneer.
  14. try sanding and restaining them first.. if they don't come out good, then use the black Duratex .. Those could be made into beauties.
  15. I would recommend new crossovers, and Crites CT120 tweeters only.. Just my 2 cents.
  16. Here we go again... grown men acting like little girls..
  17. I have a Emotiva UPA-2 and like it. I use to to power cornscalas. Sounds like a nice class A amplifier.
  18. Jawz Of Def : El Monstro https://soundcloud.com/jawzofdef/el-monstro-jawz-of-def-ft-philly-bluntz This song has great bass, midrange, and great high notes and great vocals.. Plus this song was an unrehearsed freestyle that came out pretty good.. the second verse by Philly Bluntz was written.. Both Jawz Of Def and Philly Blunts are friends of mine.
  19. yeah, i think you are right... 6k it is
  20. it was right after the RF 35 was made that Klipsch decided to have the non heritage speakers made and assembled in china.. All the new reference line of speakers are now being make in china, except for the RF-7 i believe.. Do you want speakers that were assembled by a kid in sweat shop in china, or by a Klipsch employee in Hope Arkansas? I own a pair if RF-3's and like them a lot.
  21. wiggle it out, disconnect the wires and remove the 3 screws that hold the horn to the driver... replace the diaphragm then reassemble it as you found it..

  23. I never added damping to my heresys, and they always sounded ok...Some members have used foam tape to seal the horns to the cabinet and also used it on the rear removable panel to help seal the box.
  24. Replace the capacitors in the crossover, and replace the k-77 with Bob's CT120... or CT125 if you are on a budget.. There are no good quality diaphragms for the k-77... plus either of Bob's tweeters will easily outperform the k-77. If you want to stay will all original Klipsch driver, let me know, I can sell you a clean pair of K-77's with square magnets just like yours.
