  1. Picture just for size perspective. Early in life, I wanted VOTT speakers. Luckily, I saw and heard La Scalas at a party.
  2. Wish I had known to install Rockwool Safe-n-Sound into the interior walls while my house was being built. It was a lot of extra work to retrofit when dealing with some low frequency standing waves in my listening room.
  3. Thanks. The random patterns do work the best. I had tried several different linear woodgrain patterns (not pictured), but the converging lines don't usually look as good within the horn shape. Another plus for the carbon fiber pattern is that in dim lighting conditions, the horns just fade to black. I don't see my notes for the active crossover settings on those. Last year, I switched all my big horns to the Axi-2050 drivers.
  4. Actually, if you place them side by side, wired to a speaker selector with level adjustments, a person can compare them. Just like any other speakers.
  5. You could remove the 18" driver and see that the large opening is enough to fit some proper length 2x4s inside for a few cross-braces. That would be the easier way, rather than sawing open the back panel, unless you plan a complex CNC'd web style brace.
  6. @TonyTrex57 , If you type the @ symbol, followed immediately by the first few letters of the forum member's moniker, a drop box of names will appear. When you click the selection, it will set highlighted. Then when you Submit Reply, an alert will be sent to the recipient's notification box. About your crossovers, posting your questions on the open forum will get you more opinions and the answers you receive can be seen by everyone. When you are ready to install your new crossovers, have all the extra wires, connectors and tools lined up. Also a good idea to take plenty of pictures of the original installation for reference, and maybe share (easily downsized before attaching) pictures of the new parts, too.
  7. I added veneer to the face panels of my set. Your SVS amp might be EQ'd specifically for the SVS, but could be good enough for your new subs, since you have DSP adjustments. Yes, the entire cabinet resonates, but maybe it was designed to be a huge passive radiator?
  8. When I compared the K-43 vs K-33 in 2 La Scalas, the difference was not very noticable at "normal" SPLs. With my Klipschorns, in my room, the K-43 sloped down at the lowest frequencies, but had a warmer upper bass response. Sometimes, I needed to switch off all drivers except one woofer at a time to focus on the comparison.
  9. The early model Klipschorns did not have the foam edge seals on the tailboards. I like that Klipsch added seals in the 1980s and improved performance, so while these were exposed, I attached foam rubber seals to this pair.
  10. What do you hear with more clarity, the bass or the upper end?
  11. The K-43 is going back into the LSI to resume its role as a great party speaker. Any time I have a woofer out, I carefully inspect and tighten the wire connections to the cabinet, use a leaf blower to remove any dust and I also replace the gasket tape on the cover panel.
  12. After comparing a K-43 (and another brand woofer) in the left channel and the K-33 in the right channel, I have verified for myself that the K-33 is the best for the Klipschorns.
  13. Wrapping the old Heresy slant monitors with Maple veneer. Still a lot more work to do.
  14. If I had the kits on hand, I would certainly hook them up to my 1982 Klipschorns. Have you tried yours?
  15. The enclosed back Klipschorn cabinet is a design upgrade. I am not aware of any REW comparisons between the original style and the enclosed back style, but I would be willing to bet that the enclosed back cabinet will produce more consistent measurements if tested in multiple different homes. Plus it allows for toeing in or toeing out, if needed, to aim your speakers. P.S. I have some original style Klipschorns, in good corners and sometimes daydream about enclosing the backs or buying the new AK-6.
  16. Did I catch a glimpse of a Marantz power amplifier in your video? I have a 300 DC for a set of Klipschorns at my place.
  17. Sometimes I read elsewhere that folks with uber-expensive speakers wish they could re-create the rock concert sensation at home, and I just have to smile, thinking about how the La Scala does that so well, partly due to the rising bass response and the shape of the bass horn.
  18. Using an electronic crossover and multi-channel amps allows me to turn off any individual driver. Rapidly switching from the left speaker K-43 or the right speaker K-33 lets me easily hear the differences between the two woofers while sitting in the main listening position.
  19. One of my 45 year old Klipschorns developed an unusual buzzing sound. I pulled the K-33 woofer and discovered that the cone was slightly tilted and therefore rubbing the voice coil. Probably just worn out from lots of fun parties. This gives me an opportunity to try out a heavy-duty K-43 driver, as seen installed in this picture of the face down K-horn.
  20. @fred jones It is very clear about what speakers you have. I think that forum member @YK Thom has some Ohm speakers in his place. Maybe he will see this and can share some useful information for your home theater system.
