  1. The early model Klipschorns did not have the foam edge seals on the tailboards. I like that Klipsch added seals in the 1980s and improved performance, so while these were exposed, I attached foam rubber seals to this pair.
  2. What do you hear with more clarity, the bass or the upper end?
  3. The K-43 is going back into the LSI to resume its role as a great party speaker. Any time I have a woofer out, I carefully inspect and tighten the wire connections to the cabinet, use a leaf blower to remove any dust and I also replace the gasket tape on the cover panel.
  4. After comparing a K-43 (and another brand woofer) in the left channel and the K-33 in the right channel, I have verified for myself that the K-33 is the best for the Klipschorns.
  5. Wrapping the old Heresy slant monitors with Maple veneer. Still a lot more work to do.
  6. If I had the kits on hand, I would certainly hook them up to my 1982 Klipschorns. Have you tried yours?
  7. The enclosed back Klipschorn cabinet is a design upgrade. I am not aware of any REW comparisons between the original style and the enclosed back style, but I would be willing to bet that the enclosed back cabinet will produce more consistent measurements if tested in multiple different homes. Plus it allows for toeing in or toeing out, if needed, to aim your speakers. P.S. I have some original style Klipschorns, in good corners and sometimes daydream about enclosing the backs or buying the new AK-6.
  8. Did I catch a glimpse of a Marantz power amplifier in your video? I have a 300 DC for a set of Klipschorns at my place.
  9. Sometimes I read elsewhere that folks with uber-expensive speakers wish they could re-create the rock concert sensation at home, and I just have to smile, thinking about how the La Scala does that so well, partly due to the rising bass response and the shape of the bass horn.
  10. Using an electronic crossover and multi-channel amps allows me to turn off any individual driver. Rapidly switching from the left speaker K-43 or the right speaker K-33 lets me easily hear the differences between the two woofers while sitting in the main listening position.
  11. One of my 45 year old Klipschorns developed an unusual buzzing sound. I pulled the K-33 woofer and discovered that the cone was slightly tilted and therefore rubbing the voice coil. Probably just worn out from lots of fun parties. This gives me an opportunity to try out a heavy-duty K-43 driver, as seen installed in this picture of the face down K-horn.
  12. @fred jones It is very clear about what speakers you have. I think that forum member @YK Thom has some Ohm speakers in his place. Maybe he will see this and can share some useful information for your home theater system.
  13. @Flevoman Maybe you have already mentioned, but at what SPL does this condition begin to happen? Also, have you tried a different amplifier?
  14. Your first post says Klipschorn, but you picture looks kind of like part of the Klipsch La Scala II. If that is what you have, then the short jumper wires will connect the LF IN and the HF IN. From the amplifier to each speaker, a single wire pair (positive and negative) will connect to one pair of banana jacks in your picture. You can use banana plugs, a forked spade terminal or bare wire wrapped around the binding post.
  15. @Daveh It might help us to see what you are working with, if you zoom out and show more of the speaker and any other connectors or labels.
  16. Your speakers (should) have the K-55M drivers. The back cover on those can sometimes become loose and buzz. Read about an easy fix here,
  17. You should be able to apply Zone 2 for your speaker B set. It helps to have the AVR connected to a TV, so you can see the On Screen Display as you scroll thru the menus.
  18. When I attach multiple photos to a single post and before Submit Reply, I drag the cursor to the right outside edge of the first picture, left click to set the cursor, and then hit the space bar once, to introduce a gap. Repeat for each additional picture within that post.
  19. Is that a cooling fan built onto a headlight assembly? (3rd photo)
  20. I sent some 18" subwoofer drivers with huge magnets from the USA to Australia, via UPS, earlier this year. Each box was the size of one Heresy, maybe larger. Judging by the speed of delivery, I would say they travelled by jet. I signed up for a free account at Pirate Ship for a generous discount on shipping cost.
  21. Every room has its own acoustic signature, so it could be one model or the other depending on several factors. I have a fondness for the Klipschorns in my space, but I also think that adding a horn subwoofer to a set of La Scala IIs would be a fantastic system with more bass extension, plus you get placement and toe-in flexibility. Seeing that you have the La Scala II, the new Klipsch horn sub is easily the best way to get maximum performance.
