  1. Are there fuse holders on the side of your bass bin, where the wires plug in?
  2. My personal opinion about this whole thing is that even if different amps sound the same with one specific speaker, the same amps most probably will sound different with other speakers, so it is the different combinations of equipment that matters, as many of you have already said.
  3. I don't know the answers to your questions. I never heard about this challenge before reading about it here on the forum recently. I would guess he is trying to prevent a challenger from adding an external circuit that could modify the sound of the amp to make it easier to pick out during a DB test.
  4. Number 5 seems to be fair, but if you put it in other words, it can appear to be rigged.
  5. I think this thread is going to cause an increase in sales of Tube Amps, because their owners report such glowing levels of satisfaction.
  6. True, except the model you mentioned is designed for CUSTOM INSTALL connectivity. Looks like a nice choice, especially if you want the extra ethernet inputs and outputs.
  7. These are in Sarasota. Too far away from me, but I wonder if @Emile would want to listen to them, just for fun.
  8. I think most people have good intentions. In person, I see a lot of brothers and sisters and good friends pick on each other in friendly ways that would be seriously misunderstood if put in writing.
  9. Do you have the hose adapter for connecting the saw to your shop vac ? Direct dust collection helps keep things real clean cut.
  10. That receiver should be able to power most speakers properly. There are many good sounding, high power choices at that price range, so I am curious why you picked a Custom Install receiver?
  11. I am looking forward to reading about your Super MWM build and listening experience.
  12. This is the Advice for Beginners.... thread
  13. Guitarists almost always use tube amplifiers because when driven into distortion levels, the tube amps produce certain desirable noisy guitar sound effects. Many guitar players like the warm rich sound of tube amps when not driven into distortion.
  14. Pulled out the tape measure and yes, the Marty Cube Sub can fit in the space of the existing dishwasher, with room leftover for a stack of paper plates. (Marty Cube from the flat pack kit that @Westcoastdrums told us about in the subwoofer forum)
  15. There is a part on here that looks a lot like an autoformer.
  16. wvu80, I have considered updating the capacitor values for the woofer, and converting the AK into the reputedly better AK-3, but the speakers sound very clear, smooth and powerful the way they are already. I believe that the AK was partly disparaged in the past by people who did not realize that a section of the crossover network was concealed inside the woofer compartment. I think that Bob Crites may have said the two piece design was confusing for some customers, so he designed his one piece crossover to simplify the installation of his replacement part. There was also a treble section aftermarket upgrade available, from another source, which left the woofer components intact within the woofer door, but people were somehow mixing up the instructions of the two different designs, causing more complications. Then the AK's reputation suffered the snowball effect of people perpetuating comments they read in the past. I have another pair of speakers that have digital active crossovers, which I prefer, but I still like the AK's. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
  17. What about leaving the set screws out and soldering the wire in the receptacle?
  18. Many of my speakers have the stock AK crossovers. They are good networks and mine have shiny copper wires showing through the clear insulation of the Monster cables as seen in the picture below. The capacitors have been replaced. Some of the AK crossovers installed in some speakers may have the wire insulation that caused the copper to turn green and unfortunately, tarnished the reputation of the AK series. What was wrong with your AK crossover that you would replace the entire network?
  19. @Maccagirl83 and @MrsBoxx, Remembering Boxx and his good influence on everyone who knew him.
  20. The Dayton Planar Horn tweeter and the 18"X10" horn with the Selenium D-405, connected to the original AK(1) crossover network produces a very pleasant sound, so I will continue enjoying this arrangement for a while. These are powered by a Pioneer Elite SC-LX 901 which allows me to passive bi-amp all five speakers in my home theater, so I will utilize the split crossovers in the four K-horns and center channel La Scala. The room is pre-wired for bi-amp. I like to power each woofer with its own amplifier channel. On top of the usual good reasons for bi-amping, another sonic improvement from this passive bi-amp configuration is that the MCACC room correction applies its time alignment process to the bass and treble channels.
  21. I just realized that my dishwasher is wasting space that could be occupied by a nice subwoofer.
  22. Yet, most people can recognize a voice they haven't heard in 10 or 20 years, after hearing a two word phone greeting.
  23. I have looked at commercially available MDF sandwiched between plywood. Interesting products.
