  1. LOL, you are preaching to the choir, my friend. I used to race motorcycles. We used to say "if you want more horsepower, get a bigger horse." I'm voting for you getting a bigger center.
  2. Van Dec, have you tried fiddling with the EQ, maybe in the frequency where Voice lives?
  3. I'm not so sure I agree Beeker, but you know a lot more than me. What gives me pause on that idea is that my Onkyo 717 has Audyssey, and it sets the balance between the speakers at reference level. In my specific case, my center is +4 and my CF-4 mains are -2, but that's because my center is an MTM with 7" woofs, and they won't keep up with the mighty Klipsch's. Even set like this, my mains are quiet and the center is dominant when watching TV in 5.1 mode with Neo6 processing. I'm afraid if I followed your advice and ignored the Audyssey settings, I'd have to boost my center even more. I'm not sure if it would balance correctly at reference level which is 82 on my Onk. Your thoughts?
  4. Minor thread drift; A question for the Cable Guy. Is solid 2-wire telephone cable any good for speakers? +++ A member of another forum got p.o.'d at the cheap cable he had been getting, so he wrote to all the cable manufacturers in the US and asked for samples. He said THIS is the best wire he heard. http://www.knukonceptz.com/home-theater/speaker-wire/kord-speaker-wire/

    What I Got Today!

Geez! I have never heard of that! I'm glad you're OK. Were you home when this happened? That would scare the crap out of you!
  6. It's OK, it's after 9:00, so the kids aren't up reading the Klipsch forum this time of night.
  7. Looks like the Gamecocks got circumcised. My daughter was blowing up my phone with updates. Inappropriate! Give yourself a Warning Point, and tell yourself not to do that again.
  8. They're making you look smart! Ole Miss 7-0 after 1st quarter. +++ Texas AM thumping SC after 3rd. +++ What's the line on WVU vs Alabama for this Sat afternoon? I can't look.
  9. Turn in your Man Card Mr. (now Ms.) K.
  10. We need Moray James for this story. The story is the Version 1 was widely accepted by new consumers, but traditional Klipsch owners were very critical because they did not sound "Klipsch-like." So Klipsch changed them, and the sound was not as good, to many ears. The Version 1 has a 5" long port, the other versions are 3". I also think the Version 1 has a grey-ish looking horn, I have one, but they all look black to me. You can also identify them by their serial numbers. 1994 was Version 1 in a 3-year run of this model. 1984-1989(?) YY WW #### (89281234) 1990-1997(?) DOY Y2Y1 #### (135791234) DOY= day of the year Y2Y1=2nd digit of year, 1st digit of year
  11. Where are you keeping all that stuff? Those are all pretty big, and I'm sure I've seen some of it, but not all of it. Are those KPT-684's (dual 18" subs) in front of the couch, right and left?
  12. Dave -- Are those all yours? How much for the pair of Dixielanders? Bruce $350. PM sent.

Oh man, I had forgotten that! What a PITB it was to put thick grease on the top and bottom, line up those stupid little ball bearings, then try to squeeze everything together! The balls would squirt out, and then you had to start all over again! Those were NOT good memories!
  14. Those look cherry all right, and the version 1's are the ones to own! All the very hip people have them.
  15. I noticed you don't have any Frazier's; could you use some Frazier's? (You'll win a special NO-Prize if you can identify the Klipsch Forumite in the picture) Note to the Klipschite: I'll take the pic down if you want me to, to protect your otherwise un-tarnished reputation
  16. Yeah, great. Now I need someone to 'splain this to me. Even and odd harmonics? Digital gear GENERATES odd harmonics? I don't get it. +++ Not that it matters, but listening to gear and referencing live music is also my perspective, being a band/orchestra guy all my life, so I know what instruments are supposed to sound like. I was a drummer, but I was around a lot of musicians.
  17. I don't have any grills, but I wish I did. I don't like looking at drivers (the opposite of many of you!)

That color is "Candy Apple Red." You may trust me on that one. The headlights would rattle apart, when you wreck the levers would snap (not bend) like pretzels. Both levers were brakes, front was right, the back was the left lever. The bike shown above has aftermarket plastic replacements, a good idea. The foot pegs would also bend, since they pivoted straight up and down, not backwards on a 45 degree angle, and those nice chrome fenders would bend and get scratched in a wreck. The front forks had about 1 inch of travel, there is NO rear suspension, of course. The handlebars would unscrew with those hard rubber knobs, and anytime you were thrown forward, your knee caps would SLAM into those stupid things. Study that picture; guess what would happen if you slid forward off the seat and came DOWN into the gas tank. Can you see which of your body parts would stop your forward progress, once it hit the gas cap? Every Honda mini-trail ever made had the tank dented in the top front from little kids slamming into it with their male parts. And if you ever need to know the size of the screw that holds on the heat shield for the front of the pipe, I can help you with that as the screw has burned an impression into my inside right calf with a scar that is there to this day (think, the Nazi with the burned medallion in his hand from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.) Good times, good memories.

I'd like to answer that, speaking over your shoulder, to the OP; the bikes were banned, made illegal to manufacture, OP: If you love your child, DO NOT LET HIM EVER RIDE THAT 3-WHEELER! It is a museum piece, a wall-hanger. It is dangerous. The 3-wheelers were banned because of an inherent design flaw; they are VERY easy to flip. This is why. A two wheeled bike can be turned LEFT by leaning to the LEFT. This is instinctual and in case of an accident, the rider almost always errs with a low-side fall (to the left, if turning left.) It is easy on a low-side wreck to throw the bike away, which is safer for the rider. The THREE WHEELERS are OPPOSITE, ie you have to turn RIGHT to go LEFT, which is counter-intuitive. On a three wheeler, If you try to TURN left to go left, it will flip you over the handlebars to the RIGHT, and it doesn't take any speed to flip. The rider most often fell on their face and broke their collarbone, and it was very difficult to catch yourself to lighten the blow. When the 3-wheeler flips, it lands ON the rider. If a person did not ride anything else EXCEPT a 3-wheeler, the rider would be more safe. But at speed, with motorcycle instincts, the 3-wheelers both hurt and killed many riders (broken necks, smashing into trees because the bike would not turn if done the wrong way, etc). Get you child a four-wheeler or mini-bike when the time comes. Let the past die.
  20. Let me see if I've got this straight; you are thread crapping about crapping on a thread crapping thread, which the OP thinks is bull crap. Beeker, you're the King. +++ Non -secqater: I just tried to heat my chicken sandwich right now in our 15 year-old microwave, and you guessed it, it took a crap. Crap. Can anyone suggest a new large microwave? And please...no crap.
  21. good to know … i did spend five years in Michigan while in the coast guard. we did have crappers on the ship though…and right out of boot camp, i had to clean them. It sounds like you know your sh.......aw, never mind. +++ You know what I like about this thread? NOTHING! I have not ONE CLUE what anyone is talking about. I think I'd like to keep it that way. Ignorance is bliss, and I am really blissful. +++ In before the close!
  22. Pardon my inputs on this subject. Perhaps I can make amends above. Pardon your inputs? I don't understand what you're saying, or what it might be that you need to make amends for? Unless you're kidding around, in which case it went straight over my head, and then I owe you an apology for me being dense. Seriously, I thought your post was excellent, that's why I referenced it. I was just using it as a jumping off spot.
  23. And, my post is responding to Chris, Post 23 just a bit upstream. I don't get excited about "subjective vs objective" because everything is subjective. We could even do as Chris suggests and post polar plots of everything, but I GUARANTEE that if Chris and I both posted polar plots of Heresy's (for instance) in our living rooms, the plots would still be different. Probably similar, but different. And even if we both listened to the same speaker in the same room, polar plots be darned, we would still have different opinions of what sounded good to our ears. He might prefer bass, I might prefer mid's, Mustang Guy might prefer high frequency because his hearing is shot from listening to his six LaScalas at insanely high DB levels. Same speaker, same OBJECTIVE information, but different opinions. In my little world, information is a range, like IQ numbers. If I assign myself an IQ of 100 (exactly average), the only thing we really know is that 100 is most certainly NOT my IQ. What we do know is that within 90% certainly, my real number could be as low as 90 (low average) or as high as110 (high average). There is only a 10% chance that it would be higher or lower than that. I think this concept could relate to evaluating speakers as well. +++ (I've got to go now, to meet the daughter's new BF for lunch, but I'll add a few more observations later. I feel certain we are all going to be able to agree on what I have to say. )

    Dead receiver?

Thanks, dad. I call you "dad" because that's exactly how my father talked to me, after I had done something stupid. After I fell out of a tree when I was a kid, I thought I broke my arm. My brother went running and found my dad, who immediately came out to where I was and saw me lying on the ground, writhing in pain, crying that my arm was broke. My dad took one look at me, assessed the situation, then asked me calmly; "what were you doing in the tree?" Thanks, Dad.
