  1. Speakers rarely break and Klipsch isn't into the modification business. I do however see Roy Delgado on here a bunch. You can't get more Klipsch than that. I meant the distributors on here.
  2. This is the reason I went with 3 separate amps, this way, I can control what I want when I want. I toyed with getting a Scotts, until I heard what a SET can do, what a SEP can do, and what a PP Integrated can do. And none of my amps ran more than $500.00. I know there's much much better out there, but for where I'm at in the game, they keep me happy. If you can find a cheap Chinese Class A SET, you can get them wired already in triode mode and pushing 4 WPC. It will give you that nice 3D imaging, then all you need to do is "upgrade" the caps and resistors if anything. I had my SET upgraded for less than $175.00. I know you are going the other way due to your room size, but if you wanted something for critical listening, here's an idea. Try looking at one that puts out slightly more power and only has one input.
  3. Funny thing is there are 2 builders on here that have had issues, and have their "customers" "supply" photos out of nowhere, give great accounts of their work, and these builders come and go when looking for business or getting too busy to also keep up. Unfortunately, instead of most of us taking things for what they are; We all want to be plugged for our services, but some do it blatantly, and others don't complain, and some don't do it blatantly, and the same "others" do complain. Just something I see on here sometimes.Whether on amps, or crossovers, someone is always unhappy about another getting some type of attention. About the only ones I don't see putting their business on here are speaker reps. Imagine that, Klipsch speaker reps NOT putting how they can help us on a speaker forum that's named after the same speakers they are able to help us with.
  4. I'm in the process of getting a few mods done to a few of my stylus. One is getting re-tipped with a shibata, and the other is getting redone with a cactus cantilever and shibata tip. I was looking to see if anyone has ever done this before and how they liked it. I've read about doing a Ruby cantilever and shibata tip, and this one came up in conversation. So I figured I'd give it a try.
  5. Shirley Manson, Lydia Lee Love, Sarah Mclaughlin to name a few
  6. NJ had 3 earthquakes a week or so ago 3 separate days. That was from me sneezing while walking nude in the house.
  7. Which head had the higher IQ? Why the lower of course.
  8. Ahh how cute, looks like a pen%s ,only smaller mine was used for this one. My avatar picture was taken by mine.
  9. Mine was so big, they wound up giving it it's own IQ test in the 8th grade

  12. I'm not going to brag either, but mine has it's own bed and a night cap when going to sleep.
  13. Did you get it sold through here or Facebook? I saw it there as well. We are on a few of the same pages I see through there.
  14. Tube amps are going to give a different bass response for the most part either way. You pretty much just answered your question on a SET amp as you said it still felt like you needed more of something with the 70wpc. That is what I meant when I said they were power hungry. If I can suggest one more thing for the system to try with the tubes. Aphex204 Aural Exciter with big bottom. It's like the old "bass boost" button on the old receivers and is used in a lot of recording studios. I have one in my system on the SET. It isn't an EQ like a typical one is, it just brings things out more defined.
  15. My opinion would be to do a tube integrated for the power. I don't know what Toolshed Matt will say, but also try Justin Weber. My Yaqin MC-10L has enough head room for my listening set up, and it actually does give an almost SET like sound at times with imaging. My SEP is good, but doesn't have the headroom for really loud listening. I have my 3 amps going through an amp switch, and I also use an audio switch as I have 2 turntables, a cd player, and my laptop with an external hard drive (1TB). Depending on my mood for listening, I just push a button and am good to go, and then if I feel like a change, I just push another button. None of the switches are powered, so I don't have to worry about any issues.
  16. If I can add one more thing, that may be a another different way of looking at things. When my triplets were born I jumped in and took care of them with no issues. People used to say to me 'How can you handle 3 at one time"? My response was that for me it was normal, as that's all I knew. Your child and your family will feel the same way,and most likely your child will look at what some may think as handicapped or disabled as normal for their situation and not use it as a crutch. And I'm sure you and your spouse will do an excellent job in teaching that it's not a handicap at all.
  17. That is a great price on the table. Very clean indeed. GLWS I have been contemplating getting one and selling my 1229, just for the option of being to upgrade the arm and other things on this table.
  18. Bob, My SEP is 4wpc, but it's a totally different type than SET. And I use it when listening more as "background" music while working at my desk. Some of the people who are responding are the ones I was waiting for as they are much more knowledgeable than I am. If you can, and your pockets aren't that deep, think of SET as critical listening, and SEP more for power and volumes. This is in layman's terms of course and not totally accurate, but if you are at 16' away, you won't be able to get the imaging the SET gives, but with a PP/SEP you'll get better volume, better response with bass, better stereo sound, and won't have to worry about clipping on the amp. Most on here, including Matthews and Toolshedamps will give a similar opinion on seating positions or listening positions. The closer the better, and the better the imaging and SQ will be. I listen at about 22 feet while working and doing paperwork, so I don't use the SET. When I am using the SET, I am 7 feet from the speakers, and they are 7 feet apart. A quick rule of thumb for critical would be an equilateral triangle as a starting point. When I want to really get my circulation going, I use my PP which has 42wpc, and that's when the forte II really open up. Bass response is going to be much less with a SET. And I assume with the CF-3's you want them to open up more and give a nice chest pounding bass at times.
  19. don't forget the ADC VLM ll I have the XLM MKII with the original stylus as well as the RZL Shibata stylus coming.
  20. Mike, not exactly sure from what I have seen alot of people build their own SET's. I don't know of many manufacturers, maybe Carey? Jim, I am bit confused with the power hungry thing, Klipssh does say they are rated 100db. I don't doubt what you and others say but the 100db makes me wonder. Some builders think I may be fine, hopefully I will hear from CF3 owners. thanks Bob Bob, Maybe it will make more sense if we know how big your room is and your seating position. The builders can match things easier that way. I only say this as I have a set of forte II and also use the KF-28's, and the KF-28's are easier to power with lower watted amps than my forte II. I had a SET that was only putting out 1.5 wpc and it didn't give me enough volume or sound stage as my room is to big.It would clip before giving me that SET imaging. But I also have a 4wpc SET and it powers the forte fine, not ear splitting levels but fine,as long as they are close to a wall. And I get that imaging. My KF-28's aren't as critical on placement as they are front ported and will sound louder. I may not be communicating it the way I mean to, but I'm under the impression from posts on here by others, that it takes more power for the CF's to really sing vs let's say a set of LS. So an amp that has lower than 4wpc may not really be able to make them open up as much. It doesn't do it on my fortes, but my room is also 14x24. It powers them fine and I enjoy them, but if I really want to listen at higher levels, I have to switch over to a SEP, or my PP that pushes 42 wpc. My speakers sound better to me when they are being pushed at higher volume levels and I have the extra headroom in the amp to be able to push them louder. When I want more critical listening, I just use the SET and they sound fine, but when I turn the amp louder, after a certain point, I lose the imaging of the 3d, if that makes sense. If you speak to Matt, ask him if he does SET's or just SEP. I'm sure you'll be fine with any of the amps, I just don't know if you'll be able to get them to a high volume level without clipping. I may be wrong, and as I said above, I don't know the speakers, just remembered others posting how they needed amps with a lot of wattage to get them to really open up. I was hoping WVU80 would give his input as well as a few others. You may be able to search their threads on the CF-3's to see what I'm talking about. I'm not educated enough in tubes,or the speakers, so I can only go by what I have and what I've read.
  21. Do you have a cartridge on the table? If so which one? I would also get a few other things ahead of time while you get it serviced. A gram scale, either manual or digital, and a protractor to align the cartridge. The Dual head shells are pretty easy for the most part though.
  22. pricing on the scotts amp?
  23. I'd get that C-7 and put it there right in the middle and not say anything to the wife.Put the screen right on top of it.
