  1. How does the paradigm servo 15 fit in this crowd? I would think it would be a worthy alternative.
  2. Talking of good sound, Tres Hombres in Carbondale, IL have Heresys hung from the ceiling. These are used for background, live acts use their own sytems. Other bars can be obnoxious with loudness, why is it that the more awfull the music the louder it is?
  3. I have a friend that lived about a mile south of the rt. 66 drag strip. He said you could stand in his front yard and the ground would shake when the top fuels went off. I would think that the best way to show off one's system is a recording of auto racing, or a thunderstorm. To replicate reality realistically would be the best way to impress others. I was once told the the quickest way to go from a multi-millionaire to a millionaire was to get into big league drag racing.
  4. I have the 1050, very nice, does what it says. Outlaw is not about hype, or useless features. Some news from the winter newsletter Model 1070 The shipments of our first fully functional 1070 Receiver samples were LOST by the international freight forwarder. These units were not found or delivered to Boston until Friday afternoon November 5th! As you can imagine, they never would have made the trip to San Francisco in time for the "poke and prod scrutiny" you would have liked to perform. for those of you who don't recall, or were not part of the Outlaw Family at the time, the 1070 is a full featured 7 x 65 watt per channel surround receiver with DVI switching. While we'd love to share more about the 1070's features, we've learned our lessons from previous projects and we're going to hold off until we get a little bit closer. We just don't want to be accused of trying to reel anyone in before we can actually deliver this unit. Now that the 1070 samples are actually here (and we're not really in San Francisco), we'd like to provide a brief update as to the "what and when's" of the much anticipated successor to our original 1050. While we're very excited about the 1070, both in features and in performance, we are very disappointed to announce that due to normal production delays, prototypes that went missing for almost two weeks, and a handful of software glitches, the reality is that we will miss our original estimated release date of late December. However, we've mobilized Peter and he'll be in Asia next week to firm things up for late January production. We do remain committed to a price under $1000. And, considering the samples we're working with now, we KNOW we've got another winner on our hands!
  5. A twist on the 2 rules. WalMart sells products their employees can afford, pay cr*p so you can sell cr*p. 86 million is crazy, but it is what the market will bear. I found out recently that my job has the same starting salary as it did in 91, no I don't work for WalMart. I really need to get a CEO job, I want to be able to afford Reference.
  6. I just heard an ad on WXRT online; http://www.wxrt.com, for Saturday Audio Exchange in Chicago; http://www.saturdayaudio.com/index.html, anyone try them? The ad and website say they just became Martin Logan dealers and recently became Klipsch dealers. The thing is they are open limited hours and sell used gear as well. I am going into Chicago next Saturday with my brother to do some shopping, and will be stopping in the store by Wrigleyville on Belmont and Clark. I will be looking at the small ref bookshelfs, to match up with my Outlaw 1050. Since they carry Nad could I use that to give me an idea on sound to compare with my Outlaw? I would also like other suggestions on ref dealers in Chicago to try that day. Thanks, Ray
  7. I saw vol. 1 in the theater, couldn't help laughing out loud and cheering, but I might be weird. Same with Pulp fiction, if you are like QT then these movies kick butt. On the other hand, you could say they are awful. I think that Kill Bill was not overdone, unbelievable, but not overdone. Just my opinion.
  8. I read somwhere that Lucas claims the "originals" no longer exist, he has butchered them out of existence. The best way to see them is the thx widescreen LDs. I will rent ep1 someday, but Lucas will get no money from me to revise my childhood memories. Yes to me ep1 is Star Wars, the one I saw from the back of my parents Pinto station wagon at the drive in. I allow Lucas the ability to mess up his own work, but nothing is wrong with what he did in 1977.
  9. Too bad I will be working Friday night, SIU is only 1 hour away. SIU class of 2002. Shyrock is a nice place, saw David Grisman there while at SIU. I would like to see a pipe organ really put through it's paces.
  10. Wouldn't a rc7 mounted horizontially give a bigger coverage area, horn ed made that point I believe. I have no experience either way, I am going to use kg 1.5 for side surrounds, then maybe a 2.5 on it's side for a rear center. I would think the dual woofs would provide nice coverage. I am going this route for price considerations, ymmv.
  11. Did it make a clacking sound? I did that with AOTC once, I repeat once. Was not pretty at all. What does clipping sound like from the tweeters? I am still new to this and I hope I have never had my reciever into clipping.
  12. Wxrt is second to my family for things I miss about living around Chicago after moving away. I read an article on HD radio that said it is worse for hiss and poor sound than regular radio. The problem with hd radio and HDTV, there is too much crap that analog broadcast covers up, and hd doesn't. It might be awhile before the studio is quiet enough to make it sound better, papers rustling and the sort. The underlying problem is not enough Wxrts in the world, and too much clear channel.
  13. I have the 1050, sounds very nice to me, and will get plenty loud. I had my first one go bad, maybe my fault;), but Outlaw agreed to replace it during my first tech call. Wouldn't stay on, maybe blown fuse inside. They shipped a new one out to me, and had me mail the old one back to them, their cost. I also sent a tech question via their web site, someone replied within minutes. 1050 is now discontinued, new reciever is due late spring or so. I just might buy their sub, waiting on funds and the possible small cubes from SVS.
  14. last 2.2 I was watching went for $200, I think $125 to $150 is average. I have a 2.2 center with 4.2 as mains, 1.5 on their way for surrounds. To my non audiophile ears, this ain't a bad match. With my Outlaw 1050, there is some rumble, but I can't wait to save money for my sub. I would go 2.2 all around, and save pennies for a sub.
  15. I have a similar question. I have KG 4.2 mains with a KG 2.2v center, plan on switching to KG 2.2 or 2.5 mains(waf), and to achieve a unified front. Have been looking on ebay at KG1 and KG 2.5/2.2 for my surrounds. With the KG1 being sealed and KG 2.5/2.2 being rear ported, what is best to have mounted on the wall. I would like to go KG2.5 all around, but only if sound isn't affected to much by blocking port with closeness to wall. Lastly, what is the best way to mount to wall, omni mounts, does this require drilling, or build some sort of shelf? Thanks
  16. funny pic, ars technica I believe had an interview with the guys that create south park. Some serious computer hardware, but three days? somebody had inside info.
  17. Baron Von Raschke, caught him a few times on early morning tv in Chicago, early 80's, him and george the animal are my favorites from my youth. Reply to earlier post, Vince has always owned wwf, got it from his father, vince took it National. Lost track around Wrestle mania 2 or 3, found it again when Triple H and THE ROCK came on the scene. The Rock is one of, or the best mic man. He gets me rolling on the floor laughing with the stuff he says. "Everbody loves Panckes"
  18. I have put the 3.2s on audiogon, for $225, or best offer. I use these as my surrounds, but they are slighty to big for our family room. I would like to goto KG 2.5s as my surrounds and mains. Possible trades will also be considered. The 4.2s in my sig are still for sale at $250 obo. Thanks Ob1clodi
  19. I have a pair of KG 3.2 for sale, $225 plus shipping. They are oiled oak and pretty good condition. The only flaw is a quarter sized chip in the the back corner of one speaker. They work wonderfully, but I need to go smaller to fit my house layout. Plan on going to a KG 2.5 based HT, as that would be easier to fit. I will also sell my KG 4.2 for $250 plus shipping. They have water rings on top, but no other damage. Pics to follow.
  20. If they are still available, I'm interested.
  21. My vote is for the outlaw. It powers my kg 4.2 quite well. Without a sub it will shake stuff quite nicely, 4.2 main and 3.2 rear set to large with 2.2 cut at 80hz. No problems so far having it for about 1 year. Excellent customer service is also an added bonus.
  22. I recently went into the BB in Orland Park, IL, great if you already knew what you wanted. Stuff crammed into as little space as possible, surrounds foot above head like bo$e surround displays, great surround sound, felt like big head phones. Well you also only have 5 feet to stand back from 60 inch tv, suprising clarity, just like the front row at the movies. BB did have a athena bookshelf system set up around a big screen, with a chair to let the workers rest and watch movies on the sales floor. BB is not to blame, unless proper setup is completely their responsibility per their contract with Klipsch. I work for Coca Cola here in S. IL, and I am responsible for making sure all sorts of corporate package appearance policies are being met at all sorts of stores. Why doesn't Klipsch have the manpower to go from store to store and guarantee that their products are displayed in the best light? Coke is a very well known product around the world, yet they are obsessive about the appearance of every container in every store. Great product is meaningless, unless the consumer sees it as great. I was turned onto Klipsch by the PM 5.1 as my first HT, then moved up to a KG HT, after Tweeter salesman confirmed Klipsch was the way to go. I'm not able to afford the new models, so off I went to Ebay. Y2Ray
  23. Edmunds.com has a long term test of a Ferrari, thing makes 1980s chryslers seem downright dependable. $60 for an oil change, not bad since the people that own them barely drive them, won't need oil changes for very long time. Damn I'm jealous though.
  24. Most important question first, how much do you want for the modded 4.2? Next, your mod would have the horn between the active and passive, or to the side of them? I'm interested in matching the 4.2s I have for mains. My KG 2.2 would go in back for rear center duty. Ob1
  25. Are you interested in selling the KV3 seperatly? If so how much? Ray
