  2. belden has a great chart that actually shows the power loss over distance with the various size cables.... it's hard to find on their site so i have attached it here additionally- the size of the wire and your type of connection can easily be overcome with a pin-type connector.... the following pin connector from parts express will accept up to 8 gauge cable and will work with the small spring-clip connectors on the back of some speakers and amps http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=091-1255 if your speaker/amplifier accepts banana plugs, the following phoenix gold plugs work great http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=263-583 if your speaker/amplifier does not have the standard width spacing (common on many receivers) you can use the following single banana plugs http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=263-582 i personally use the phoenix gold plugs pictured above and they work great!!! 121.pdf

  4. you can do some reading on the klipsch website to compare the two series, but here are a few basics.. 1. all reference series models use a titanium compression driver in the horns compared to an aluminum dome tweeter in the horns for the synergy 2. the reference series used the copper colored Cerametallic woofers compared to to polypropolene woofers in the synergy
  5. like MrMcgoo, i use the auto eq digital eq's in my pioneer elite 55txi to eq my room and then leave it alone..... i bypass my tone controls.....

If you ask me, all of the language involved is suspect. They are in the business of marketing funny language: "There is no superior cable in existence to the NBS BLACK LABEL. NBS guarantees this as fact, and truth, or your money back!" I can just imagine this court case! "recommended for systems above $100,000 " Now there is a spec for you. What kind of test equipment told them that? C&S ---------------- the real joke is that NBS cables consists of Walter Fielding and 4 women who solder cables together for him.... that is the entire company... and he uses gold plated switchcraft RCA connectors for his high end cables - i used to sell him the connectors for his cables.... about $5.00 each for the connectors
  8. power consumption ratings on most consumer and some professional equipment is the "nominal" or average rating - not the maximum power draw...
  9. Spkrdctr, a more important issue than the peaks it the top 5% of the spectrum is the bass control... more than a few users here have remarked at the much improved bass response when going to a higher quality amplifier and if you are purchasing an outboard amp, why bother with a 100 or 150 watt amp when there are many very good choices (and probably more choices) that are in the same ballpark cost wise... so for just a few dollars more - you get better bass control/sound and the headroom to cover ALL the demands that any music/movies will make... and - heaven forbid - you decide to buy different speakers that require more power - you will not need to replace your amp as well....

I fear you guys are listening way too loud for your long term hearing health. Remember, Klipsch speakers are extremely efficient and do not need large amounts of power to produce fairly loud sound. If your trusty Radio Shack SPL meter is going over 100 at your listening spot, than you are doing damage to your ears....this means for most setups, you would be running about 5 to 7 watts RMS or 50 to 70 watts peak(depending on your distance from the speaker). Not much power at all. Remember, buy Klipsch, or don't buy at all. ---------------- it's all about the peaks and bass control.... i also have the 1812 overture multichannel SACD..... listening to the beginning of the recording at a very reasonable level on my KLF-30's caused my carver professional ZR1000 to hit the clip indicator LED's on the cannon shots about 12 minutes later - and that is 225 watts per channel!!!! i routinely see peaks of well over 100 watts on many different classical works if you listen to rock or pop music, you will not see the extreme dynamics of classical music.... but you may see similiar peaks in very dynamic movie soundtracks... i would recommend at least 200 watts per channel in a quality amplifier..... you WILL notice a difference compared to weaker amps and definitely a huge difference compared to a receiver's amp section
  11. i had responded on the other thread as well.... both speakers do a great job of putting the music in your room..... if i hadn't found a used pair of KLF-30's i am sure that i would be very happy with a pair of RF-7's... i do like the midrange presentation that i get with the midrange horn compared to the same music that i auditioned on the RF-7's.... either way - you can't go wrong!!!
  12. here's a 4 foot interconnect for $10,000!!! http://www.nbscables.com/products/new.html
  13. hey moon! sorry - but i couldn't pass up an easy one like that!!!

  15. ---------------- On 3/17/2005 1:56:23 PM MrMcGoo wrote: I would go with the Denon 3805 and a Carver Pro ZR1000 outboard amp. Other 200 watt amps to look at would be Crown amps, QSC and other pro amps. The RF-7s have an impedance minimum per S&V of 2.8 ohms or 3.5 ohms in Home Theater mag. The minimum impedance requires an amp that is truly high current. If an amp has good power ratings at 4 and 2 ohms and a clean first watt, then it should be ideal for the RF-7s. IMO it is not the total watts avaialble at 8 ohms that is important. It is the watts doubleing form 8 to 4 and doubleing again at 2 ohms that tells me the amp has the power needed to keep frequency response level. Another useful number is the amps peak to peak. It takes good output devices and a good power supply to produce peak amps. Again, a clean first watt is required. Bill ---------------- Bill beat me to it!! i also concur.... get an amp that can handle the low impedance flucuations and your sound will improve thoughout the entire range.... a good low cost way to see if you will get a noticable improvement with an outboard amp is to find a place in your area that rents sound systems for parties and such... you can usually rent a professional amp for about $25 for the weekend... (be sure to have them get you the adapters that you will need - RCA to XLR or RCA to TRS) take it home and play with it.... you WILL notice an improvement....
  16. winamp - internet radio - sky fm - all hit 70's - all hits, all the time!
  17. great write up kathy! i had a similiar experience when powering my KLF-30's.... went through several different power amps before settling on one that did the job right! i concur with Bill (Mr McGoo) and the other posters that main reason for a better bass response with these speakers is not the ultimate power output but rather the ability of the amp to handle the low impedance dips in the low registers... if you are running a receiver to power your RF-7's or any reference series model, i would highly recommend that you try a quality outboard amp to at least power your mains
  18. nice review!! i been preaching the digital message here for almost two years with my experience with my carver professional ZR1000 digital amp... i feel the same way about my amp (that is from one trumpet player to another!)
  19. you don't have to re-invent the wheel... here's a few tube equalizers for you http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&kw=TUME1B&is=REG&Q=&O=productlist&sku=168258 http://www.summitaudio.com/p-eqf100.html http://www.fullcompass.com/Products/pages/SKU--22383/
  20. a more powerful amp will improve your bass response.... not only because of more power but mainly because of better woofer control and the ability to handle low impedance dips... when speakers are rated at "8 ohms" - that is the average impedance.... the impedance varies according to frequency... in the lower frequencies the impedance can even drop below 3 ohms... receivers have a very difficult time handling that type of load.... almost any outboard amp will handle that load very easily...

  22. right now it's maynard ferguson - one more trip to birdland - multichannel SACD concord records http://www.concordrecords.com/ "Maynard Ferguson has long been idolized by fellow trumpet players for his huge trumpet tone and his supernatural forays into the stratospheric reaches of the trumpets range. He has also led some of the tightest big bands on the planet for some fifty years! Perhaps none of those bands have been tighter and more energetic than this incarnation of Big Bop Nouveau, Maynards little big band. And never have the super-charged Maynard Ferguson & Big Bop Nouveau sounded better than in the pristine, detailed, vibrant sound of Super Audio CD (replete with a 5.1 surround sound mix)." (what can i say - i'm a trumpet player and maynard's got chops!)
