  1. One more thought regarding placement. When using the Ohms try and keep them 12inches to 18 max out from the wall. They also need to be slightly ahead of your TV monitor, or just a bit more than level. Otherwise you will get a lot of sound waves being blocked/smeared by the TV itself. The upgrade you would have received will most likely have the rear attenuater placed inside the can, which makes them more of a 180 degree speaker rather than true omni. The 600s are much more direct and a bit easier to place. Unlike the old version I have, the new ones are rear ported so that will need to be considered as well. All part of the fun.
  2. You will enjoy 600s, they are the latest version of the ones I originally used as mains. They are very clear, detailed and punch well above their weight - especially with a sub to fill in the bottom. My condo layout is as such that the Ohm Walsh provides better sound for the whole room - they are magnificent off axis. The Klipsch were great whilst sitting in the living room either listening or watching TV. At the dining room table not so much. Rolling off the crossover will make a huge difference, then you will be able to keep them where they should be. If you find that the Klispsch set works out best for straight up HT you have a great pair of Ohms for two channel in another room assuming you still have your two channel receiver/amp on hand. Let us know what you think after noodling around with them.
  3. Cool old thread. Would love to hear these, I've never ran into one before.
  4. I use a blended system, Ohm Acoustics 2000s for front mains, Klipsch for everything else. I have found that that the Ohms work extremely well with the Klipsch centres. I have never encountered any issue, timber match or otherwise. I switched out a pair of Klipsch RB61 II as my front mains for the Ohms back in 2016. I find the centre and the Ohms neutral enough they blend extremely well together. If you are dipping into HT you must have an AVR. I roll my Ohms off at 60, the centre and rears at 80 and it works like a charm. I would suggest you try this. Which model Ohm do you have? If it is a 3 (upgraded to 3000) it may be a bit too large for your room.
  5. That tune puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.
  6. Merry Christmas to all the forum members from my wife and myself. As is our custom, we are now preparing to head out for Chinese food.
  7. One more question: do you use your Firestick with wifi or do you use the ethernet adapter?
  8. If the Firestick is the one with the highest res file support it will be the one. Problem solved, thank you kindly and Merry Christmas!
  9. Have you tried a Roku? I do know the Apple works well but we really aren't in the Apple environment. I find their universe is a little too sealed and proprietary for my tastes. I'm going to do some digging on these Firesticks, I like the sounds of their processing power for digital files. I didn't realize they would do 24bit/192kHz high res audio. That is pretty decent and matches my Marantz's capabilities.
  10. What I'm hoping to do is run something through my receiver. The way I have things hooked up I don't think I would be getting any sound if plugged into the TV itself - unless the Arc would deliver the sound. I'm not very informed with these things. The Apple TV has been plugged in since 2014 - I notice the number of application options shrinks each year. With the gen I have new ones cannot be added. I believe they can with Roku. I made an error the other day and bought a 50% discount Paramount sub. Unfortunately this means I cannot sign into it through Prime or Apple, unless I buy another sub through them which I won't. Rookie mistake.
  11. Do you plug it into an HDMI port in the back? I hadn't even considered on these. It doesn't look like it has an Ethernet connection though.
  12. Probably right, he will be a happy camper. For many if not most, the Forte is the sweet spot with regards to the number of rooms it would be ideal for. Not too large, not too small...
  13. Good morning all, I am considering either upgrading my Apple TV 3rd gen with a new one or perhaps adding a Roku Express. Currently I use the Apple for viewing Prime and as a wifi antennae for streaming Prime music from my den computer (next room). My receiver is not capable of processing 4k all though it has a "pass through". I'm not sure what that even means. The receiver, Marantz SR5008 does not have the new 2.0 and 2.2 HDMI (it has 1.4 I believe). Would one of these new devices work with this? The old Apple was the last model they put out that cannot have new apps added to it. The new ones seem to be able to as does the Roku. Anyone have experience with the new units?
  14. The large three way will put a smile on your face.
  15. A Christmas Carol, the British version with Alastair Sim.
  16. A nice stand gets them up to the better listening height. They really are a large bookshelf/stand mount speaker when you think about it and most use subs with them anyway.
  17. I guess this will be their last kick at the can.
  18. A room that size would likely be better with the Heresy, especially the IV that you have found. The Cornwall might be overkill.
  19. Would a Reference Premier driver not work?
  20. You don't see the long haired versions that often.

In fact that is the brand in my refrigerator right now! Grace products are available here. Their ginger beer is the best I've ever had and we pick it up for Dark and Stormies every summer. If you make a batch at some future date I'm in for some.

Do you ever make a Scotch Bonnet sauce? I usually always have some around for when we make Jamaican curry - it is pretty rare to ever see fresh ones here in Yellowknife.
  23. Grasshopper, I wish it could be year round, there some up here that do, all about having a wind sheltered spot and a bulb to keep the propane from gelling. I have a smaller footprint unit ( two burners) that operates until -10 (without wind). After that I'm lucky to achieve baking temps so the cover goes on. I'm on the tenth floor of a 17 story condo tower in downtown Yellowknife.
  24. Fingers crossed. Trying a paste rub on the lamb - olive oil, lemon, mustard, rosemary, pepper, garlic and thyme. I've had it in restaurants. My wife likes the tried and true Montreal steak spice.
