  1. Ibiza...I "think" he's referring to the cardboard tube that extends inside the enclosure that is glued to the plastic port. I know on both of the KSW-15's I've had that I had to re-glue that tube back onto the port at some point

    RB-5 ii

    Oh myyyyy....hate to see this
  3. Don't have any pictures, but, a stock KSW-15 has a cardboard tube approx. 6-8" long glued to the plastic port piece
  4. Those are nothing short of spectacular...... GLWYS
  5. Very very impressive....so glad this worked out I also had a question on the badge looking like it was falling off.....and definitely question the consecutive serial numbers on a "Limited Edition"...there are only 140 of these speakers out there...they should be matched
  6. Congrats! Healthy looking crumb muncher!
  7. OK...wife was away this past weekend with the kids....so curiosity got the best of me again. Took the plate amp out that I thought went bad just to take a look to see if anything blatant stood out that may have caused the failure. Got it under some good lighting and notice what appeared to be a cracked solder joint where the positive wire from the fuse attached to the circuit board. Could it be this easy of a fix? Dug out the solder iron and melted the solder ensuring that it reconnected to the board....also added a bit extra for good measure. Cleaned up a few other suspect solders (mainly because...well I had it out and who doesn't enjoy flowing liquid metal around) and put it all back together. Crossed fingers....plugged it all back in.....voila...POWER!!! We're BACK!!! Played them all weekend without a hiccup....they sound fantastic.....temporarily put the grills from my RB-5's on them....oddly satisfying look....I'll have to get pics. Eventually will get some replacement 8" woofers to replace the wrinkled ones in them.....but for now I'll just enjoy them. Definitely will get my $100 out of them!!
  8. It was the early 80's and our local small town High School had combined the Jr. High and Sr. High schools into a single school, so that meant that the school was becoming 7th-12th grade....as I was entering the 7th grade. On the first day of school I entered the Band Room the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrds Roll Gypsy Roll (One of my favorites that I would get to hear live renditions of the piano solos from the great Billy Powell numerous times in my lifetime....but that's another story for another time) playing loudly through multiple sets of Heresies hanging from the walls around the room. I remember thinking how great and clear they sounded and how loud they got...and was floored when I would later find out that they were being fed a mere 10 watts each. Fast Forward a few years and long after I realized that I could play the radio far better than drums and that I was much better with tools than drum sticks... our Track Coach Mr. Byrd came into the "Industrial Arts" Building and approached our Wood Working/Carpentry Teacher with a set of plans that looked like they had been copies of copies of copies.....degraded to the point that you could barely make out the measurement dimensions of the plans themselves. He asked if the class could help him build these large speakers that the school could use in the Gym, Cafeteria etc... for Assemblies/Dances/Pep Rallys. We agreed that it would be our "Class Project" and set about building these massive odd looking speakers. He provided all of the components and when he came in to assemble everything I saw the familiar name that was on the speakers in the Band Room...Klipsch. Once put together he brought in a Fisher Amp and the very first CD player that I had ever seen along with a copy of Eagles Hotel California. He fired that system up and I couldn't believe what I was hearing....it was like the sound just enveloped me and sucked me in. I listened to those odd looking speakers hundreds of times over the course of my High School days. They just pounded all genres of music at Pep Rallies, Talent Shows, Homecoming Dances....and played effortlessly. It wasn't until years later when I was dropping off a set of Realistic Mach Ones to be repaired that I saw those odd looking speakers on the showroom floor at a local Electronics Store/Repair Man. I asked what they were and was told Klipsch LaScalas. We had built a set of LaScalas...or at the very least something VERY similar. All of our children have gone to that same High School....and those speakers are still standing at the corners of the stage in the auditorium....but haven't been played in years. We took our youngest two children up to the school this past summer for a Meet and Greet with a local kid that graduated from that same small school that had just gotten back from Brazil with some Gold Medals for the US Swim Team. Ran into Mr. Byrd and asked about the speakers...said they were going home with him when he retires at the end of this year....said the school wanted them gone because they took up too much space......and he winked at me and said he told them he'd take them off their hands. Since then I have acquired and sold many Klipsch speakers, KG's, KLF's, Epics, Reference...but have yet to dive into a set of Heritage speakers....just waiting on the right time/place for a listening room.
  9. Morning guys.....cold weather hitting us here in NE Florida as well......only getting up to about 67 today
  10. Morning all.....busy weekend here in NE Florida...beautiful weather led to some nice outings and a little Klipsch refurb work Took the time to take the RP-5's out of the shed and did some work on them. Got the one cabinet apart, sanded, painted and resealed. Fired them up last night (one still has a bad amp that will go to the shop this week to be rebuilt) but MAN.....these things sound GOOD....even with only one of the 12's playing it sounded great. Huge WAF going on with being able to take the RSW-12 out of the living room now....she's pretty happy....and we all know that makes things much more easy around the house. Looks like the RB-5's and RSW-12 may make it to the Man Shed for 2.1 duty.....can't say I'm too unhappy about that Decided that I'll probably never use the Quintet and Quintet SL sets that I have stored in the shed....those may need to be let go of.....
  11. Took me nearly a year to move (4) RF-3II (1) RC-3II (1) KSW-15 and a Yamaha RX-V1200....all in MINT condition...threw in about 300ft of Monster Speaker wire and tons of interconnects as well.....got pennies for them when I finally just gave up and took a stupid offer....but had to get them out of storage Guy has them all setup and loving them....he also is single....lol
  12. Yeah...usually buy from Sonic Electronix...but they didn't have it in stock at the time and only had a week before she went back to college. They earn my business about 95% of the time....always had great experience with them. Love they usually include all the installation hardware with purchase. Libations during install....but of course...that's a given
  13. Just replaced a $1500 Alpine unit that came in my daughters 4Runner with the Jensen VX-7022 (Amazon special for $249)......I like the Jensen about 10 times more....
  14. Curiosity got the best of me....took 12" out to find source of rattle....turns out the front board of the cabinet has separated at the bottom...so when the bass pressure builds up it rattles the front board....nothing is wrong with speakers or subs....just the cabinet....easy fix
  15. Yeah...they work fine as passive speakers... sound similar to my RB-5s Looks like I could have amps refurbished local for about $250 (go ahead and have them check both)...klipsch support validated that replacement woofers from RB75 would work ($60 each from online speaker shop)....so $370 and some elbow grease at most....so probably just store them for a while and start a restore on them sometime....
  16. Well...so much for that.....got them hooked up this weekend and they played great....for about an hour. Amp failure on one speaker....bad rattle started coming from other sub haven't taken the time to take it apart to see the source of rattle....for now just shoved them back into a corner of the shed.....possible refurb project down the road....
  17. Thanks Ibiza Looks like the RP-5's use the same woofers as the RB-5's....K-1084's....not sure what the difference between the two are...maybe ohm? figured that the grills would be an issue....as even finding RP-5's are rare Hard to pass up when they are all just shoved in a corner and the lady says "Give me $100 and you can take them all"

    RP-5'S

Been a long time since I've been on....life happens Sold off most of my stuff...but tripped over an estate sale deal I couldn't pass upand need advice.... Picked up a pair of RP-5's and a set of Quintet SL 5....a ltitle rough but all work great...grills for Quintets are rough..but speakers are perfect RP-5's have no grills and cones are a bit damaged...but sound fantastic..... So question is...can I get NOS grills and 8" woofers Thoughts on a pairing of these towers with RB-5, RC-3 and a RSW-12
  19. Growing up my dad was an auto mechanic that had a shop near downtown Jacksonville. He had a older guy...Tom...who was his go to transmission guy who ALWAYS had older R&R tapes playing from his toolbox radio.....but when Big Bopper and Chantilly Lace would play...no matter what he was doing he'd stop and sing that song and dance with whoever was near him.....most of the time it was me or one of my sisters or my mom. Tom passed when I was probably 8-9 years old....dad sold the shop and started hauling cars all over the country....I'd join him for a week or two on the road any chance I got and remember the first time he put that old tape in the radio that Tom had left for him.... I still sing Chantilly Lace word for word anytime I hear it....and remember not knowing about how he had passed until I saw the movie Labamba with Lou Diamond Philips...awesome flick
  20. Being in the new smaller place....I've also sold off the majority of my gear...just a simple 5.1 system of what fit best into the space....
  21. Morning all...been a while...lots of life changes After we got moved into the new place I was furloughed at work for three weeks....so decided to use the time to look for other employment. Got head hunted by a bank for a Lead Developer Position back in the financial industry (my career for about 12 years) with them wanting me to help them rebuild the Dev Team....told them no....they pushed....so through out a absurd hourly rate and told them that I wanted it to be a contract position for 6 months and that all my travel expenses were covered up front...they didn't even blink... So...for the next 6 months I'm here in Memphis....it was 29 here this morning...what was I thinking...
  22. Morning all. Had a bit of a cold snap over the weekend with it getting down into the mid 30s Sat Night....back up in the high 70s low 80s now...and will be 84 on Christmas. Due to space limitations the majority of my Klipsch gear is in storage awaiting a new owner. On Friday afternoon I grabbed the RB5 and stands and a RC3 and decided to hook them up as a 3.1 system.... I haven't had the RB5's playing front stage for about 3 years....and I feel like a moron....man I forgot how lovely these things are.....sooooo much better than the RF3's.....even my oldest daughter (20) said yesterday while decorating.."Why haven't we had these speakers playing until now....they sound MUCH better than the others". Amazing how much bass those things produce....may not even setup the sub....gasp Got the temporary chicken coop up while we convert an old work shed into the permanent coop....harvested a dozen eggs in the past week.....fresh eggs are an awesome treat....wife also got her garden in....Kale, Spinach, Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Mustard Greens, Collard Greens and long leaf lettuce. Down to having to finish the bathroom floor for the bathroom to be complete....should have that done by Christmas Short work week for us worker bees....
  23. so tempting.....can't justify it right now though.....ugh
