  4. I guess the need I have is to sate my listening appetite. All I really need is to keep my lady happy!
  5. I'm a little concerned about my power needs, but super excited to see the glow and hear it sing.
  6. I noticed that I rarely see threads that don't "leave you hanging" as to the outcome. I have decided to report back and say that I can't find any reason to make any changes to these speakers. They have sounded good with anything I have attached to them. That said, I will tell you that I have moved on to finding something to push them that I like. One of the earliest threads that I read on this forum said that Klipsch speakers will end up making you want to upgrade the rest of your system and I find that true. I started out with my Pioneer SX-1250, then my Marantz 2325, both of which I like, but something was missing. I came across a deal on a Mcintosh MA6300 which I thought would hit the spot and while it sounded good, still something was missing which is hard to put my finger on, or ear. More reading (I love this forum!), and the idea of tubes was planted. I made contact with a wonderful gentleman named Pat Hickman of Classic Tube Audio in Camas, WA. He let me check out his stock which had a museum of sorts of historic gear, some really cool equipment ready to refurbish, his lab and he let me pick his brain on some questions I had about tube audio. He's even built his own amp that did well at T.H.E. Newport show. His knowledge of tube audio spans 50+ years and he was gracious and patient and helped me on a path on which I still feel I need a striped cane. Lo and behold a Scott 299 C tube amp and tuner are on their way to my place and then straight to him for a rebuild. The follow up to this will be somewhere in the Talkin' Tubes thread.
  7. I am used to losing and I am not adept at dodging bullets. Have a guess?
  8. I will start out by saying I'm a Chicago fan. (maybe I shouldn't) Last year I decided, since working six days a week then, I would not spend my one day off a week sitting around watching football. So I figured if my team had eight wins, I'd pay attention...I spent my Sundays last Fall and Winter enjoying myself disc golfing or anything else. That said, if adding a few pounds of air to the ball would have given my team a championship, I would have been all in!
  9. Maynard, The Forte IIs are in my split level basement apx 28' x 12', presently hooked up to my McIntosh MA6300. It's a game room, so I may be playing Golden Tee, throwing darts or at the bar table but rarely find myself sitting at the love seat centered between the speakers to listen to music. I listen to mostly rock and blues from the 60's to today, mainly on vinyl. I mentioned in my last post that I have been listening at lower volumes lately. Ha! I just downloaded a sound meter app and find myself listening to Nomeansno and it is averaging 100 dB. I am home alone now, so no one to disturb. According to this app, 75-80 dB may be more the norm. I would like the ability to disturb tho!
  10. Happy to see this section show up on this forum. I was always under the impression that more watts = more better. After getting my first pair of Klipsch (Forte IIs) and doing some reading online about how little power is needed to drive them and how the tubes make them sing, I have been looking into investing in a vintage Scott or Fisher to try out. My (very little) experience is limited to vintage SS monsters like the Pioneer SX-1050/1250 and the Marantz 2325. I find myself listening to music at a lower levels these days, but wonder if I would be limiting myself if I went with a vintage Scott rated at 17 wpc? Would I be happier with 30?
  11. I can't say I have thought about it too hard. I use surge protectors (probably past their prime) and have no knowledge of power conditioners. Considering, at the least, I should replace my surge protectors, what do I need to know about power conditioners?

    Am I Normal?

I haven't had a birthday party since I was five and I never went to prom. It's going to be alright!

  14. Beautiful! On my wish list. Good luck with the sale.
  15. Nice looking car. The only experience I had with a Hyundai was a rental sedan. Road noise was an issue
  16. Thank you. I am really enjoying them. Already know that I made the right choice!
  17. Good advice. Also, after the 30 days, take a peek inside, maybe they have already been "modified", "refreshed", "upgraded". Bill After finding a sweeter spot for them, I am not so much in a hurry to put them out of commision. 30 days is a good call, thank you. Bill, I was lucky enough to get them from a lady who purchased them when she lived in Arkansas and she said they are completely original. A bonus gift too!
