  1. IDK anything about their turntables, but just the idea of pitching anything HK gives me the willies. I think you're on the right track re the troubleshooting. do you possibly have a friend with whom you can brainstorm & "swap parts" - meaning: does he have a turntable that works? what if you swap yours to his system, how does that work? or have him bring his to swap into yours? sometimes a 2nd set of eyes (not like the 4 eyes I have) can find something that results in a "doh!" moment good luck. keep us posted. you know - inquiring minds, and that.
  2. yes, we do, and exactly to which I am referring. hopefully my own decisions would not require risk of life of others. and it's hard for me to find words for those whose actions do require risk, or loss, of life of others.
  3. @Jeff Matthews - I believe it. and 100% agree on all points. makes me shake my head at some people... as I'm sure there are those who watch me & do the same. I hope my decisions do not have the potential life changing impact on OTHERS though. saw a note on the "crawler" on a weather network that the Cajun Navy is asking for additional volunteers for more help in the Carolinas. probably illustrates one or more of your points right there.
  4. just my $.02 worth. they DO make these choices at their own peril. there is a little to be said for Darwinism... and sometimes seems like Darwin needs a little help.
  5. some are clueless - the lady twk describes. and then there are the hard-headed, stubborn folk who entrench themselves & do exactly what dtel describes. it MUST be difficult to keep a register of those who might be unable to evacuate themselves so that authorities can pre-preemptively move them from harm's way. but that seems to be the way to get it done. and for those who initially stay but then beg to be rescued, I'm sorry but I too have little sympathy for them. they had their chances. if they were unable to evac themselves, maybe they should have called 9-1-1 sooner. like when evac orders are 1st issued ? makes me ill.
  6. I wasn't aware of that. I haven't followed the wider topic to develop a preference. personally, I can't afford to play, so I sit on the virtual sidelines, watch, dream & drool. I like a bunch of what Mecum does get to list tho - old muscle, new muscle, pasta rockets... I have wide, expensive tastes on a zero budget.
  7. does the name Mecum ring a bell? you could get most anything you or she want (probably), and can even do it form your couch while listening to your Klipsch Mecum Oct 3-6
  8. cool. I've not worked with them enough to know how the tech of it worked. I do remember the replacements we put in were round/circular. in some cases, the old ones we removed were ~ 4' tall square ones. HUGE things they were.
  9. in a previous life, I used to deliver equipment to telco switching offices - your DSL CO, or central office, as you may know them now. in ALL of them - every last one - they had battery backup. I'm sure of that, having seen them, and even been the contractor who removed the old ones & delivered the new ones at replacement time. most of them I think also had generators to back these up. not sure of what %age that might be, those having generators. so most of your local telco systems @ the CO are prepared & equipped to be up for a while. how long? no idea. and then you have the issue of "service delivery" - keeping the end users connected to the "network" / CO via fiber/copper/etc. that will probably be the weak link of the chain.
  10. ya, same here. I don't have a use for it but I know someone who might. oh well.
  11. true. but also - as of 1700 EDT, forward progress = 5 mph. so it's still moving very slowly, maybe even slower than before.
  12. sure. makes perfect sense. those of us who haven't been heavily impacted by such just REALLY have no idea.
  13. at this point I imagine as much prep that can be done, has been done. so wth, might as well have one. be safe up there.
  14. wow. that has to be, what? +/- 10', or more. wow.

    Jokes?

LITTLE JOHNNY IS BACK. enjoy. The teacher asked the class to use the word “fascinate” in a sentence. Molly put up her hand and said, “My family went to my granddad's farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating." The teacher said, “That was good, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate,’ not 'fascinating'.” Sally raised her hand. She said, “My family went to see Rock City and I was fascinated.” The teacher said, “Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word ‘fascinate’.” Little Johnny raised his hand, but the teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word “fascinate,” so she called on him. Johnny said, “My aunt Carolyn has a sweater with ten buttons, but her t|+$ are so big she can only fasten eight!” The teacher sat down and cried.
  17. lol, I understand. but, otoh, I think it's even been said here "the google is your friend"
  18. welcome to the hurricane zone. if you're between Pitt & Columbus, you're not home right now are you?
  19. hate to be that guy, huh?
  20. ncie way to kick off the season, eh? good shot @JL Sargent
  21. not sure if anyone has posted that patience can play a big role in this - as either seller or buyer. for a seller, in your case @Westcoastdrums - maybe you did or didn't need to move yours right away, and priced them accordingly I'm sure. and as a buyer, I narrow my product range for what I want within said parameters including pricing, I watch the online boards to see what's FS that I'm willing to go get, and then I wait. (or sometimes I don't but then I risk paying for it)
  22. bleh. bleh bleh bleh. never cared for them. could be paid to like them tho.
  23. I want the dragons in pic # 36. also - in # 61, is that a pr of Synergy towers? and a Mac-something on the table in #62 wow, this could be an army-navy store closeout. want a Segway, or a Mitsubishi VCR?
