Hi Dave - Sorry to hear about your wife. I hope she is on her way to a full recovery.4 years ago I slammed my head into a reef while body surfing and it resulted in a severe head injury that lead to a stroke.. My recovery went well but it does take some time and all of a sudden if you get lucky everything seems to work like before. Wishing her all my best - Peace and respect - David

I also have the Forte IVs in my space because they are a perfect fit. So many people on this Forum wanted me to go bigger and buy the Cornwalls IVs but the Forte IV were the better fit and sound fantastic.

I have made many minor and major tweaks to my main system over the years. Some have radically changed the performance while many had little to no positive impact. In the past few years the synergy of my system has come together. Dumped my Hybrid Mcintosh amp for to a 100% Tube Primaluna Integrated amp, EL34 tubes to KT150 Tubes, Denefrips R2R Ladder Dac, Forte IV speakers, REL S812 Sub. Very happy with the direction I am going now.

From 10hz to 40,000hz - standing on my head facing 170 degrees diagonal to the surround sound drivers.

I actually just replaced my HSU sub with the REL sub in the same location as the HSU was in. The REL improved the system tenfold.

I have been running a Puffin for a couple of years now and I like it very much.

I have Forte1s and have tried several tweeter options including original forte1 s diaphragms, the titanium diaphragms from Crites and @Dave AMahl super tweeters. Also installed @Dave Asmahl super tweeters on the super Heresys I refurbished. My experience was that @Dave As super tweeters were my favorites over stock and over the titanium tweets from Crites. @Dave Asuper tweeters are also beautiful to look at.

I listen to a lot of David Guietta, Tao Cruz, Lady Gaga, Ariana etc but even Gordon Lightfoot, Jackson Brown, and James Taylor have some great underlying and very solid low end sub bass lines. Rihanna has so many songs with deep bass that just rock my living room and yes - I need subs to enjoy her music. I don't understand the posters on this forum that argue that subwoofers are not a positive addition to ones system synergy. I get that if they are setup wrong they are not an add but why not set them up correctly????

I want to be able to play any music I might like and have it sound fantastic. I listen to classic rock, acoustic covers, pop, edm, Gaga, etc. there is a lot of music that can dig much lower than 30hz. No reason I can see to ignore the lower octaves in so much music.

No matter how much you crank up the bass gain on your preamp the Fortes will never pressurize a room like Fortes with the addition of a good sub. The fortes can’t hit below 20hz no matter if they are Forte 1s or 2s or 3s or 4s. It isn’t about bsss volume it’s so much more.

Sorry you are baffled. Forte IVs have good bass on their own but they benefit with great subwoofer integration. And yes for movies a sub is NEEDED but for two channel the Rel Sub takes the listening experience to a much higher enjoyment level. It’s not even close.
